Eneze1:The embassies of countries neighbouring such affected countries can always serve them. E.g, the embassy of UAE or Saudi Arabia can always provide consular services to the Nigerians in Qatar. There are many of such examples. 6 Likes |

We should be ready for a big diplomatic row. No Nigeria Mission is inessential. Except when you have missions in two close countries with legal open borders, then they could be merged. |

Eneze1: True, but some countries with exceedingly close ties to others may not need to have missions in both. One in London can serve the whole UK etc. |

Nigeria has no need for foreign mission in Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, Jamaica, Indonesia, Mauritania, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, West Indies, and many other countries like the above where Nigerians hardly visit, talk less settle. 1 Like |

cele360: Lol, How much money shall he save from closing some foreign missions? Perhaps the man does not understand that the little money to be saved from closing some missions abroad shall be like a drop of water in the ocean - vis a vis money required to make Nigeria move on to prosperity for its citizens. Employ ministers who make policies, Buhari does not want. He rather employs archaic ideas in modern governance. Countries would rather opt to having missions even in the most tiny countries of the world. This president talks about closing. |

Re: Buhari Moves To Close Unessential Nigerian Foreign Missions by Eneze1(f): 4:59pm Good move, though there seems to be a down side to this review. There's practically no country in the world where we don't have Nigerians living and closing foreign missions in such country might be a little detrimental Those Nigerians in those country should revert to the next neighboring country asap |
Re: Buhari Moves To Close Unessential Nigerian Foreign Missions by Duru1(m): 6:17pm On Sep 08, 2015 |
This is another silly and idiotic plan to have Nigeria “northernized and islamized”. The foreign missions that will be closed are the ones mostly manned by southerners or Christians. I can say unequivocally that this Daura Dumbass fool will not get away with his plans to turn Nigeria into Islamic Republic of Northern Nigeria. |
Re: Buhari Moves To Close Unessential Nigerian Foreign Missions by kenny987(f): 6:20pm On Sep 08, 2015 |
It does appear a cost effective measure but I hope it doesn't portray a diplomatic snub/faux pas. Real diplomacy must be applied here. Inefficiency and poor work ethics are the problem of those working for the Nigerian govt. That should be dealt with so that all foreign commissions and government offices generally are properly and efficiently run. Those that ask Nigerians to revert to neighbouring countries, at what cost and borne by whom? I will reserve comments on possible religious and tribal undertones till I see what plans there are. 2 Likes |

hansad: How do you know? Have you lived in, or visited all or most of the above listed? I have . BTW, number of your citizens living in a particular country is just one of many reasons why countries maintain bases. The ministry of foreign affairs is better placed to make well informed judgements about those to keep, and those to delete. |
Re: Buhari Moves To Close Unessential Nigerian Foreign Missions by patostation(m): 6:54pm On Sep 08, 2015 |
Eneze1: A simple way to get round that is to have an embassy servicing a group of related countries. Many of the so-called embassies are not even doing anything meaningful for Nigerians in those countries. |
