Need Help Finding An Inventory Control And Management Software by Noctis(m): 11:22pm On Sep 13, 2015
Hi all. I need help finding an Inventory control and management software that checks the following boxes listed in order of priority:

-Synchronizes across various stores in the country

-Three User Levels, a local user restricted to viewing local inventory only, a local administrator to view and edit local inventory and view global inventory, and a master admin to view and edit across all stores.

-Reorder level alert

-Keeps contact list of buyers, suppliers and receipts and contacts suppliers at reorder level

-Prints receipts

-Good technical support

-Incorporates POS and Bar code scanner

-Reasonably affordable.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Have you looked at Inflow? (inflowdotcom). I've deployed it a few times. With appropriate know how u can customise the reports.

Or with appropriate configuration unicentaopos can be an open source solution.

You can also look at odoo erp. If u install it with the warehouse module then you are over good to go. Open source as well.

The field is vast just craft a good Google search term

Try OpenERP ...you might need some level of customization though. All the best

Thanks for all the responses. All seem really helpful. I'll check all the options out today and if I need any further help I'll ask again. To be clear though, I'm not much of a developer beyond the most basic C++ and Java.

You don't need to know how to code to be able to deploy these. You just need to know how to install and configure them. Installing is the easy straight forward part. Configuring it to fit your client's use is another thing entirely. Requires patience, innovation and read and reread the manual especially for inflow. For openERP (now odoo) you need to have some knowledge of how ERPs work. If you've got a big client really ready to deploy I'd be glad to work with you on the deployment

You're right about the configuring being the hard part. I installed it an hour ago and I'm still trying to figure out where to start. I'm meeting with the client tomorrow to discuss some extra terms, and depending on their response, I wouldn't mind a bit of help. I'll contact you here to let you know. Thanks.

PM me if u need assistance. Which of them did you download and install? How much knowledge about inventory management have you got? What type of reports is your client interested in? Most importantly, what does your client want to achieve by deploying an automated solution? From my 2 year field experience, I can categorically tell u there is a disconnect between floor staff and management staff when things like this are been rolled out. Floor staff really need to be brought on board for the solution to accomplish it's purpose

I recently developed an enterprise POS software with stock/inventory module, accounting module, reporting module, purchase module ...... and quite a lot, better seen than told.

The best part is that its completely browser based, meaning that you just set it up on one computer on a network and access it from any other device or computer on same network through a browser.

The app can be deployed on a local network or on a web or cloud server (for optimal performance)

I named the software "Sales Expert".

I dont have a public demo available because I need to do some paper works first, to protect the software but I can arrange for a controlled demo if requested.

PM me

How did u handle printing receipt? Browsers are notoriously bad at handling printing on POS printers. And while I'm not trying to spoil your hustle, odoo already provides this fxnality besides providing accounting, sales, purchases and warehouse modules which are all suited for what the op is looking for? I'm not an odoo partner so I'm not pushing their product but they've got a 15 day Web based trial and I'm sure there's always that urge to try immediately rather than schedule a demo. I prefer Inflow over odoo though

Well may I personally welcome you to the world of Client-Side programming, using the power Java-Scripting..... Its simple.... Build a custom print-job handler for the application and over-ride the default scripts that runs on browser each time the app needs to print. I have been using that trick for some time now.

I tested the system across many bar-code scanners, receipt printers, cash drawers, card readers and pole displays. The only machine that failed was the Pole Display.

Thank God for modem printers, they are becoming more and more responsive too.

The web is a whole big world of possibilities..... I will be done with patent by Thursday, then the system will be life for public evaluation.

Exactly what I was expecting to hear. And what happens if I disable Javascript on my browser for security reasons?

Every software has specified system requirements. Almost every web application you can find on the web; Facebook, twitter, yahoo, google, nairaland, name them... They all depend on java script to function correctly.

If you want to get the best out of the application, then you need to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements, which includes having Java script enabled, at least for the application. Every modem browser have a feature to add exceptions to java script for selected sites or apps, that is if you don't trust your browser's security or even your OS firewall.

As of 2009, one can hardly fit on the web without java script.

We are in the era of HTML5, some of who's Canvases behaves like java script too.

Its just inevitable. If you want the best from the web, you have to accept the web.

My point here is that javascript provides a singular point of failure for a web-based POS. A very vulnerable one as well. The technicalities of that are outside the scope of this thread. Lets try and get d OP problem solved. That's all

I know. My point is that A browser-based solution can solve his problems too, sometimes even better. Emerging what will happen when his desktop based solution fails due to bugs, virus, OS issues, most of which are unpredictable.

Thats why I abandoned windows based application development and went fully into web/browser based. No matter what went down, you can fix it without loosing a bite of data because of their light weight. smiley
