There is a popular saying that to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done. We need ourselves more than ever. There is strenght in our diversity and if properly utilized we can build a stronger Nigeria. The Igbos really need to drop this idea of Biafra because it is dead on arrival. Secession is not the solution to the high poverty rate in the south east neither will it eliminate greedy politicians who have refused to let the SE thrive. The igbos need to look inward and look for ways they can develop their region within the Nigerian context. We the Yorubas are not bothered about breaking away. We worked so hard to develop Lagos and the South west so everyone can thrive and this is why the igbos and other tribes keeps flocking to the SW to tap from the potentials and opportunities Yoruba land has to offer. This is the kind of mentality the Igbos need to develop. South sudan broke away from sudan and still nothing has changed because they remain poor and depend on aids to survive. The igbos need to work together with every section of Nigeria so they can be relevant in the Nigerian system instead of calling we the Yoruba's slaves to Hausa-fulani. The igbos are the real slaves here because they are the ones in bondage and yearning for freedom. The igbos should remember the last civil war and never allow Nnamdi Kanu to lure them into another blood bath. Biafra is a dream that cant be realized. We will support the Hausa-Fulanis to resist any form of secession. We will defend the unity of One Nigeria just like we did in the late 60's. A word is enough for the wise.

SAY NO TO BIAFRA

GOD BLESS OUR UNITED NIGERIA.
the igbos are not living on poverty, the average igbo man is not begging for food on the streets of Nigeria. If u are not a slave, ur masters will not be the one heading the apex islamic body in Nigeria since 50 AD. Do u force ur wife or your GF to marry or date u ? If majority of Igbos said the want Biafra what is ur problem with that? Is it by force to be a Nigerian? Pls don't bring tribal sentiment here, just concentrate at ur mechanic workshop after u must have finished eating ur oily soup.

In your world, the only means of counting the date is the Gregorian calendar. Get educated about the Lunar counting. That is what the Muslims follow.

Oh Yeah! It's because our own religion is not the type one can "fix dates" to suit his/her mundane affairs. We use the Islamic calendar (Lunar), as prescribed by Him, hence the variations....#NoOffence

I concur to the submission. Pursuant the the express provisions of the SCHEDULE of the Public Holiday Act , Cap P40 LFN 2004, Its the Minister of Internal Affairs that is vested with such responsibility. I wonder on whose authority he had to make such declaration which are hitherto null and void and of no effect whatsoever, cos he lacks the locus to perform such act or duty.

I'm Yoruba. But this is nonsense. Who are the "we" you talk about? Yoruba? Yoruba isn't supporting the Hausa fulani to keep Nigeria together. The majorly uneducated poverty stricken north does not hold Nigeria together, the constitution holds Nigeria together. If Biafra wants to go its welcome as long as they can figure out strategies to legally seceede.... Your whole writeup is laced with cowardice to lightly put, despicable..

None taken. Muslims have a specific date for our festivals. The seemingly "disparity" is due to the fact that our festivals are based on the lunar calendar and not the "conventional" Gregorian calendar you're used to.

This particular Eid takes place every 10th day of the 12th month in our lunar calendar.

Pele O, Mr. Islam. People like you with little or no knowledge about the beautiful religion knowingly or unknowingly cause problems in the society. The holy prophet made it clear that we must respect authority which in this case is the FG. Please learn to read The Qur'an and Hadith after-all there are English versions available for free online. Don't mention me again cos I won't reply until you graduate from Ile kewu.

What Nonsense is this? Who JNI to declare eid-il-kabir day , The responsibility is solely on Saudi Arabia. Arafat day was declared by Saudi Arabia as (wed,23, September, 2015) and we all know that the next day is the celebration. JNI is very wrong to announce this. Eid is Thursday 24Septemberer.

I wonder if They will deviate from this announcement.
Am waiting to see who will follow their ignorant press release

LOL! If the FG eventually declares another date for the holiday. What will the FG declared holiday be called, if it happens to be at variance with the official Islamic dates?

You also have to understand that the JNI never declared the date as holiday, because they have no such right as you rightly pointed out above. They only declared the festival date as part of their statutory responsibility. It is therefore the FG's imperative to follow suit with a holiday declaration.

Thus, your submission above is correct, but its not an applicable nor relevant legal authority for this issue.

No! Arafat day is on Wednesday 23, September 2015 hence Sallah would be observed and celebrated on Thursday 24, September 2015.

We actually do have fixed dates. Just because our official islamic calendar is different from the gregorian calendar(propagated by ancient egyptian gods).

Just like the chinese calendar.

They are:

1. Muharram
2. Safar
3. Rabil al-awwal
4. Rabil ath-thani
5. Jumada al-awwal
6. Jumada ath-thani
7. Ra'jab
8. Sha'ban
9. Ramadan
10. Shawal
11. Dhu al-qa'dah
12. Dhu al-hijjah

The difference is that our months don't go below 29days(like february) and they don't go above 30days. This is because the moon cycle is fixed between 29 and 30 days. It doesn't go below or above.

Mr lawyer....

If you read the post well, the JNI just declared that single date as the eid festival for Muslims....

It is now the responsibility of the FG to declare as many days as possible as public holidays.....

So all this grammar you're blowing is for your primary school English teacher.....

They will surely retract that statement. How can eid ul kabir be on Arafat day? It is not possible.

I don`t know the reason for the rush when they can patiently wait for Saudi to announce the Arafat day. It is the Arafat day that determines eid ul kabir`s day.

The Holy Book describes about time, in Islam, Allah mentioned in his glorious Quran: " And We appoint the night and the day two portents. Then We make dark the portent of the night, and We make the portent of the day sight-giving, that ye may know computation of the years, and the reckoning; and everything have We a expounded with clear expounding"

so also the moon, we use it for computation.
thank you

1. The holiday is to enable the adherents celebrate the festival. What is the essence of declaring a different (meaningless) day? Let me ask, suppose the Federal government declares Dec 21 as Christmas holiday, what do you think will happen?
2. There are blind followers in every religion

The date for going to the praying ground is specific in the Hijra Calendar but varies in the Gregorian Calendar that we use in Nigeria. It is 10th of the month of Dhul Hijjah - 12th month of Islamic calendar
If Christians were to be celebrating Christmas on Dec 25 in a Muslim country, the Muslims too would be saying that Christian holiday has no specific date, while it does

Muslims dey enjoy o, jux imagine 2 or 3 Christmas and Easter in a year cheesy
Muslims get 5 days (1 for Mawlid Nabiy; 2 for Fitr - after fasting; 2 for Adha - when they kill rams)
Christians get 4 days (2 for Easter and 2 for Christmas - the advantage is that Easter straddles Saturday and Sunday and makes it more meaningful)

If a truthful Nigerian Muslim saw the moon, should he say that he did not see it because it was cloudy in Saudi Arabia on that day and the moon was not seen
