The road from Accra to Tema was built using concrete during Nkrumah's time.

Today it is stll in great condition.

Concrete should be the norm for roads in Nigeria, the climate won't allow for anything less to survive for long.

ofcourse it's a lot expensive. you'd note it if you read the post. But the question is how well can the government sustain the initiative given our high level of policy inconsistence.

Easiest way to rob d state of its hard earned money... Soon, they wil begin to tell u dt they bought a bag of cement at the rate of #2,850.. Multiply that figure by the numbers of tons of cement they will use to construct a 10km road network..

Btw: if corruption stealing is reduced to zero level, this project is applaudable
bros the cement used for road construction is different from the one used in building.

Success rate of Abia roads 1 year after is way too low.Everyone there is indifferent, uninterested , majorly uneducated.Speaking up or standing for reality is for idle minds.

good, yes we need roads but thus is not the tenth wonder of the world, but we also heard there are foreign investors on ground to champion, major investments in very large green house farming and cheap houseing for civil servants on ppp plan. what's happening with that, they should start doing this things, what is the problem with black Africa?

Concrete directly on top of sand? Good gesture, but bad execution.

I see the whole thing getting washed away or even sinking in no time.

So what happened to the "terralite" road stabilization flux invented by prof. Meshida of UNILAG that won the 2008 NLNG merit award? It has been tested severally by the ministry of works. Yet these ones are still using cement. Until that invention is sold to another country..

Cement based roads are much more durable than asphalt roads. However, they are very harsh on tyres and cause them to wear out quickly.

The move will save the government money in the long term, but will cost the road users more in the short term.
brilliant

Pls tell dem o.. And ask them what happened to terralite. That was invented by professor Meshida of UNILAG that's meant to stabilize our roads. Since 2008

Re: Abia State Pioneers Cement Based Roads. Daily Times. by GogetterMD(m): 5:03pm On Sep 20, 2015
Lagos had done this already with the cement-graded BRT lanes
Re: Abia State Pioneers Cement Based Roads. Daily Times. by rawtruth(m): 5:04pm On Sep 20, 2015
But Dangote informed Nigerians during an interaction session with the business community and reporters that roads built with cement last a minimum of 40 years and are cheaper compared to asphalted roads. How come this "10-20 years" durability and the "higher cost?". Someone isn't telling the truth.

The township roads built in owerri since 1977, by sam mbakwe and ndubuisi kanu are still still as if it was built today. The asphalt roads are still the best.
