Hearty congratulations to a Para friend and a MRS (Marines) acquaintance who passed SF Selection! Not forgetting the 2 Namibians, 1 Zimbabwean, 2 Tanzanians, 2 Kenyans, 1 Zambian and 1 Angolan. To the assorted SADC candidates who failed at the last phase: you have one more chance!

MikeCZAR:Only those who passed Selection though. Our Namibian, Zim and Bots cousins have always been good for that, but seeing that this was the first official SADC Selection Course, let's see. A mate -not SF, but JOps planner - says the Angolans could've passed were it not for language deficiencies. Chimes in with their SF chief saying a SADC SF school should be established, where English is the language of instruction.. |

frumentius:One day we will regret training them though if we ever start offering advanced training for them. Lesotho is an example. Heard about the upcoming "battle" over a certain acquisition? The SANDF's other "operators" want the system to complement an earlier system they bought. ![]() |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 8:07pm On Sep 20, 2015 |
MikeCZAR:I'm with you on the tactical naivety of training all these SADC countries. At the same time, it is strategically sound. Economically they are/will be so bound to SA that in 20-30 years, I see SADC forward bases in Cabinda (Naval), Kinshasa (Air), Gemena ( Land & Air), Dar es Salaam (Naval & Air). A SADC desert warfare school in Namibia, a SADC mountain school in Lesotho and a SADC jungle warfare school in either DRC or Madagascar. Militarily, SADC integration is far more advanced that other spheres of governance: 1)Naval: only a matter of time before a southern Atlantic Command, comprising SA, Namibia, Angola, is announced; with observer status to DRC, Congo-Brazzaville, and Gabon; on the Indian Ocean, SA, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, France(Reunion & Comoros) are close to finalising an agreement; Tanzania as soon as they work out the political question of whether they're in SADC, COMESA or EAC; 2) Air: Botswana is seriously considering Gripen. Namibia reportedly is unhappy with their Chinese purchases; Zim, who knows? Anyway, just the sort of things I'm paid to think about. ![]() As for other "operators"...I quite like the idea that Pathfinders and Paras feed primarily onto 5, and MRS feeds onto 4. I am worried though that friendly regimental rivalry will soon harden into institutional dick-measurement, with all the implications that has for procurement, budgets etc. |

Not really sure how to respond to your original post. Congrats to your mates and all others who passed selection! Pretty intrigued by the SADC element to this: do they receive operator badges or certificates of qualification in different areas? I think its great for commonality in things such as a SADC QRF. Only worry would be human rights abuses like in Lesotho recently. Really considering giving the SANDF a go once I'm finished studying too. Not to be intrusive, but does qualifying as an operator mean being offered a full contract post MSDS? Your response would really be appreciated as an insight into my research around this. Hope to speak to an operator at AAD 2016. Spoke to one and all I could think of asking was how they differ from the Special Task Force lol and received a training manual in 2010 that piqued my interest in applying. Thanks for the informative posts frumentius: |

gees9:Ouch, the bold really hurt my eyes mate! First things first. Passing Selection does NOT make one anything. There's a process, and a long one before one wears the badge. I have a general idea but having not taken that path (I know what I can and can't do), I can't advise you. As for post MSDS, have you tried joining the regular force? That should stand you in good stead? If your goal is SF, surely you can find the info you seek? STF is police, you know that right? Very highly trained and specialised police. What's your MSDS stream, anyway? |
