Most Roads in Port Harcourt constructed by Amaechi and others continued by Wike were constructed this way. The difference is that after cement casting asphalt is still layed on the road. |

This is a nice approach to the issue of roads in Nigeria...just hoping that the road is more durable and will last longer than the common asphalt roads we have in this country. A creative approach mr governor. |

yusufu16:You are probably a quack , otherwise you will know that asphalt doesn't last long. No one is disputing that cement costs more but it is much more durable. |

apoti:Whao! One man's meat another man's poison. While we say kudos to the Government, we advise road users to beware of those network of roads in their own interest. |

Demmocrats:Let Gov. Ikpeazu pour most of Abia state funds in rehabilitation of Aba. Igbos are with him. Umuahia has had most of the pie in the last 15 years. No state was created for development only in the state capital, as it is in Imo state. |

tee06:They are different. I've worked in a cement company. The cement used for heavy duty construction is different and more expensive. It's mostly used for bridges, flyovers, underpass, highrise buildings and most recently cement paved roads. |

rawtruth:Dangote might be saying the truth. I have being to his cement factories before, they are paved with cement roads. Recently he commissioned a 20km road using this technology in Ibese, Yewa north local Government of Ogun state. I was there and I saw it. Secondly a 40km road was built in Ghana in the 1960s, popularly known as Tema motoway...that road is very much alive the last time i plighed the road early this year. |

yusufu16:Asphat softens in heat. It's a terrible idea to use it in the tropics. Asphalt needs to be resurfaced after a few years, cement is fine for a long time after being set. Cement is the best material for roads in Nigeria. Engineering companies prefer asphalt because they save on material costs and gain on maintenance fees. |

Good one...I hope the cement was gotten from Ibeto Cement and not Dangote. We need to patronize our own and leave all these abokiiproducts |

| Re: Abia State Pioneers Cement Based Roads. Daily Times. by yusufu16: 6:26pm On Sep 20, 2015 |
neocortex:My friend I didnt say asphalt is more durable than cement. I said it is cheaper. In construction you have the weight the cost vs other things. This is wastage of the highest order. With our poor maintenance culture, this road is not sustainable because concrete/rigid pavement is difficult to repair. |

yusufu16:Cement might be more expensive to repair/lay but it is less likely to crack in heat than asphalt, assuming it was laid properly in the first place. |

400m of road only? Is that the entire length of the road ![]() |
| Re: Abia State Pioneers Cement Based Roads. Daily Times. by yusufu16: 6:39pm On Sep 20, 2015 |
mmsen:I agree. But will you buy a Range Rover just because you want comfort or a VW Golf. Most countries in the world use Asphalt for their road even the developed countries. Dont be deceived. Concrete pavement are mostly used in urban areas road networks |
| Re: Abia State Pioneers Cement Based Roads. Daily Times. by mmsen: 6:44pm On Sep 20, 2015 |
yusufu16:Most of these 'developed' nations are in colder climes so it make sense to build with asphalt and even then the construction companies do so knowing that they will be called back to refurbish the road shortly. These companies are thinking of the bottom line at all times. |
