A previous post wasn't visible so I thought putting it in bold would help. Still finishing undergrad mate so would be in the 2017 MSDS stream. From the information I have gotten on the net seems there's an SF MSDS stream of first year regular infantry training then applying for a selection course the second year. Ah yes made the mistake of forgetting the years of training/evaluation post selection. Certainly know the difference was just young when I met the operator. Thanks man frumentius: |

MikeCZAR:Quite true Mike. About Angolan ops. On Bangui, I agree and and disagree. On the Damara Rd front, everyone there was from 44 Para, so they got the recognition. On the Mpoko Bridge front though, the Tactical Int guys should really have been awarded the silver leopard. Those 7 guys not only detected the Seleka breach, they watched as FACA (the CAR army) either switched sides or deserted. This compromised their OP, but they did not fall back. They abandoned it and set up another, and proceeded to call in 120mm mortars to buy time for 5 to get there. And then had to E&E to the airport! |

gees9:Ah, now I understand. The 2nd year MSDS option is not selection. It's the Special Forces Basic Training Cycle for MSDS, which prepares you for Selection. It's a creative way for SF Brigade to also get their not so soft hands on university recruits, before they get corrupted by the other services who make them "Ruperts". I'm told that if you nail your 1st year MSDS you stand a good chance of getting into the Cycle. [Hint: whilst nailing your 1st yr MSDS, make yourself useful to the SF Reserves!] |

africaken:"S-300 systems?" seems the russians are also preparing for a conventional threat. Anyway, no matter how we look at it, Russia's present shows the Obama administration lacks a coherent foreign policy strategy. It's quite shameful really. |

Mystery vessel currently been built by the Nigerian Navy Dockyard limited for the Nigerian Navy. Agaugust, from the side view of this vessel the Nigerian Navy is currently building, the vessel looks significantly larger than NNS Burutu class MPVs, structure is also different.

frumentius:Thanks for the clarification man really helpful stuff. Was under the impression it was selection for actual SF, hope to meet some recruitment/operators at AAD next year for more info about the different options and their advice. Definitely not a small decision and not to be taken lightly and I want to qualify! However serving in any capacity/branch would still be an honour and I may be of more use elsewhere anyway. |

MikeCZAR:I think by now western governments and their allies know that Putin is not the type to threaten. Israel's main concern should be Russian weapons not getting to Hezbollah. |

africaken:With regards to china - they have a long way to go until they are anything other than a regional force/power. Buggers have no force projection As for Russia, well some commentators argue that their actions in Crimea/Ukrain and now Syria is more "backs to the wall" than some grand cunning scheme. Western backed maidan in Ukrain - Russians allmost lost their only black sea base (crimea) and had to do some craazy sh1t to keep it. And as a result their position is weaker than pre-maidan with sanctins and such. While Syria is a fairly desperate move bybthe Russians to stop them from losing their only naval base in the mediterannian. Assad has (sadly) been getting whooped in recent months and the SAA is only a shadow of what it was at the start of this year (back when it looked like they had a chance of winning). Russians are just propping Assad up rather than changing the war - in the hopes of keeping what land assad still holds. Putin has displayed exceptional finesse and cunning with his statesmanship. But unfortunatly the Russians are still on the defencive and the momentum and initiative remains with NATO. I too am thrilled with the deployment of Russian troops - time to remove jihadi!! |

africaken:the geopolitical struggle in the middle east can only be won by a neutral power. The Arabs do not really trust Russia, they know that Russia will only give it assistance because she wants to show her influence in the east to the west. She started supporting the middle east during the Arab Israeli conflict from the signing of the 1955 Syrian arms deal with Czechoslovakia( then under the USSR) but before 1967 the USSR was already negotiating for a ceasefire deal with Israel and US without Egypt knowledge. The ceasefire deal was in line with "Detente" ( a cold war agreement between US and Russia )but it was not with Egypt's interest.Russia agreed all the same to it and stopped the supply of arms to Egypt. In the 1956 and 1957 war Moscow was very willing to sacrifice Egyptian interest for what she described as "greater global considerations". She held Cairo back from a pre emptive attack on Israel in 1956 and Israel invaded the Egyptian Sinai, she only supplied arms to the Arabs so she would be allowed to build missile bases in Egypt and Syria in response to what NATO was already doing around her, and when she realised that her Bases will be the target of Israeli air campaign on Egypt and Syria if the war continues she started working towards a ceasefire without the consent of Egypt. There is little difference between the old soviet union and the new Russia, they still build their policies around the same old cold war principles. |
