I think the rate at which you guys cry and whine has moved people from reasoning or feeling irritated about your issues. What they do now is laugh and even taunt you. Lagos gets more flights cos it has a huge population and a viable region with many expatriate. Kano and PH have almost similar too. Until SE can boast of a very viable city, am afraid this whining will continue. You had an airport, you burnt it down with a war. Thesame hausa men you hate gave you an international one(yaradua). Thanks to GEJ for the continuation and the shoddy job that made the airport waterlogged. You can't blame the yorubas because airlines don't see your airport attractive enough. You now have an airport, its up to you to make it work. You can't expect to be spoon-fed after served food. The moment you start blaming yourselves for your woes is the moment you get liberation. The biafra you are clamouring, you had it on a platter of gold. The lord lugard you so much hate lumped the southern minorities in thesame region with you. Your greed for power to control the whole of nigeria made you lose that great gift. You chose to lead a coup over regionalism which would have seen you control the rich oil region. Now, the minorities have given themselves an identity and aren't interested in a lord lugard marriage with you guys. Thesme greed that made you lose the trust of the SS is thesame greed that led to a war which killed enugu airport which ought to be competing with PH and Kano by now The moment you start blaming yourselves for your woes is the moment you get liberation. |

Brooklynsouth:Aviation Minister Stella Oduah The Ministry of Aviation has blocked Qatar Airlines from flying the Kano route, Daily Trust learnt lately. This makes it the fourth foreign airline to be so barred from the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport. Qatar Airlines had applied to be permitted to fly to Kano and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Daily Trust has learnt. Earlier in the year, the ministry had blocked three foreign airlines - Emirates, Turkish and Etihad - from extending their commercial flights to Abuja and Kano, apart from Lagos where they currently operate. Though Qatar Air officials declined comments, documents obtained by Daily Trust show that Qatar Air had sought additional landing permits from Nigerian aviation authorities to extend its flight operations from Lagos to Kano and Abuja since the past four months but the ministry declined the request, and instead advised it to consider flying to Enugu and Port Harcourt airports as alternative entry points in Nigeria. Joe Obi, the media assistant to the aviation minister said he had no comment to make on the matter. However, details of a Bilateral Air Services (BASA) negotiation meeting between Qatari officials and Nigerian aviation officials held between June 24 and 25, 2013 in Doha on review of the existing BASA agreement obtained by Daily Trust indicate that the Qataris presented two options to the Nigerian side to be granted additional landing permits in Kano and Abuja. The meeting comprised 10 representatives from each side with the Nigerian delegation led by Mrs. Precious P. Mbukpa while the Qataris were led by Mr. Saleh Abdullah Al-Haroon, the director of Ari Transport Affairs department of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. The first option involves the adoption of an open skies policy which will provide unlimited passenger, freight and cargo services with full freedom traffic rights on any immediate and beyond points while the second request was for 21 weekly frequencies to Lagos and 14 weekly frequencies to both Kano and Abuja. However, the Nigerian delegation led by Mrs. Mbukpa, a deputy director in the aviation ministry rejected the request, arguing that the existing BASA agreement between Nigeria and Qatar made provision for the designated airlines to operate 14 weekly frequencies to Lagos but instead, asked them to reduce the 14 weekly flights to Lagos to seven while the other seven should be routed to Kano. “The Nigerian delegation informed the Qataris that additional frequencies could be grated to Qatar Airways on BASA rights if they operate to Enugu and Port Harcourt as entry points,” the document read. “We asked for 39 additional landing permits apart from the existing 14 which we operate on the Lagos route to enable us extend flights to Kano and Abuja, making it 49 weekly flights into Nigeria but the Ministry of Aviation denied us the permission and instead they asked us to go to Enugu and Port Harcourt. But we told them that we accept the offer of Enugu and Port Harcourt as additional entry points only for future use”, an official of the Qatari embassy in Nigeria said. During the meeting in Doha, it was equally agreed that the Nigerian delegation communicate with their Qatari counterparts after further consultation with their principals within a period of 90 days as the deadline but the Qataris said they were yet to be communicated to the by the Nigerians. The Qatari official who does not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the issue said, “How can we be asked to reduce our 14 weekly landings in Lagos to seven and take the remaining seven to Kano? We were categorical in our request that we need additional 39 slots, 21 in Lagos and 14 to Kano and Abuja each. But they are telling us that if we agree to go to Enugu and Port Harcourt, the permission could be granted.” http://dailytrust.info/index.php/top-stories/8093-aviation-ministry-blocks-qatar-air-from-kano |

asha80:not half-truths but full truth. Thesame way they taunt the yorubas by calling their land a no man's land was thesame way they taunted the hausa-fulani in the North which led to the pogrom. The next thing they do is play the victim, as if records of their instigation aren't there for all to see. I think they need to look within |

juicee1:^^^Oh please, just zip it!......We've been through this millions of times! Listen mate!...Lagos was built with the collective commonwealth of the entire country; with a large chunk of this coming from oil and gas exploitation done in Igboland! When any Igbo says Lagos is 'no mans land' does it mean they'll go out the next day and kick the Oba of Lagos out of his palace? Does it mean that they'll go to Alausa and kick Ambode out of his office? Does it mean that they'll dictate governance issues for Lagosians? Just what exactly are you afraid of with that statement that you choose to read the wrong meaning into it and become agitated? Or are you looking for a reason....any reason to justify your hatred for Igbos? Lagos being called 'no mans land' by some Igbo (mainly done by only a handful of Igbo on social media to wind up over-sensitive goons like you) owes mainly to the fact that it is the nations pre-eminent Industrial/commercial center, and it was the nations former capital to which a lot of resources were diverted for its development! This is no fault of any Igbo since if we had our way -from the early 70s to date- we would have spread development a bit more evenly around the country and given other regions the necessary enablers to attract the kind of investments that Lagos has monopolized to itself for so long! What you're seeing with Lagos today is the result of being too clever by half.....thinking that by depriving the old Eastern region viable and workable air and sea ports that you're dealing with the 'pesky yeebos' for daring to declare Biafra! It seems to me like you're justifying the pogroms and bloodshed that's been going on in the north from the 50s to date....saying that Igbos taunting the core northern muslims is the reason for the pogrom of 1966! I suppose they were clairvoyant when they did the one they did in the 50s.....kinda like punishing the 'nyamiris' for sins their children will commit a decade into the future!? Also, could you tell us the specific 'sins' of the Yoruba that have been killed in the north too....and while you're at it, also tell us the 'sins' of the middle-belters that are being decimated on almost a daily basis! Where they 'taunting' the northern muslims as well like you say the Igbos were? It's peeps like you who are only too quick to try and find a justification for the wickedness in this country that make a mockery of your much vaunted 'one Nigeria'! |

gwales:^^^Just to remind you, we're talking of a woman that gave the Aminu Kano int'l airport the much needed attention it had been deprived of for many decades by successive administrations and aviation ministers in the past! We're talking of a woman that renovated the old terminal at Aminu Kano...a job that was even better than the one done for Enugu (click link: https://www.nairaland.com/1229481/remodelled-mallam-aminu-kano-airport#14812936 )! We're talking of a woman who kick-started the process for the construction of a brand new terminal to compliment the old one built in the 50s! In the face of these facts, you want me to believe one bitter and hateful Tanko-Yakassai and Daily Trusts' campaign of calumny that Princess Stella wanted to run Aminu Kano Int'l out of business? Like Judge Judy always says: If it doesn't make sense it's usually not true! |

Yorubas are nw foolishly comparing enugu airport to Lagos instead of Ibadan. Ordinary owerri handle more flights than Ibadan and Akure combined |
