UMUAHIA-THE activities of Fulani herdsmen in some communities have become a source of great worry to the people of the South East zone. The people are worried that Fulani herdsmen have continued to kill, maim and rape women in most of the routes where they pass with their cattle for grazing wondering why the security agencies turn blind eyes to complaints from victims of robbery and rape committed by the suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Fulani-herdsman

Fulani-herdsman

Investigations by the South East Voice showed that the suspected Fulani herdsmen had maimed and killed villagers in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia and Imo States among others in last few months without any of the security agencies arresting the culprits.

It was revealed that most of the herdsmen carry sophisticated weapons like AK 47 and Pump Action double –barreled riffles as they moved about with their cattle and could attack, rob or maim people at will.

In Abia State, there had been reports of deadly clashes between the herdsmen and communities in Ozuakoli, Bende Local Government Area and Ebem and Akanu in Ohafia and Umuchieze in Umunneochi areas among others. The clashes were occasioned by allegations by the rural farmers that the herdsmen take their cattle into their farms for grazing where they damage crops.

Also, in most of the places where the Fulani herdsmen had settled, they had always colonized such areas by claiming ownership, leading to violent clashes with the rural people. Besides farmlands in rural communities where the breeders illegally colonize as grazing grounds, the aggressive nature of the Fulani herdsmen is also said to be of great concern to the people.

A community leader in Ohafia, Chief Kalu Eze Kalu who spoke to South East Voice on the issue, expressed concern that the South East Governors’ Forum, SEGF,had not articulated any policy aimed at saving their people, despite what was happening in neighbouring states like Benue and Plateau and Nasarawa, where some tribes had been completely wiped out by the Fulani herdsmen, who claim ownership of lands in places where thy were strangers.

‘’They are always armed with dangerous weapons, including AK47 riffles, charms, daggers laced with poison and machetes and are ready to attack the farm owners at the least provocation. ‘’In Ozuakoli, a man popularly known in the areas as Ajambele was attacked last year when he confronted Fulani cattle breeders when he met their cattle destroying his farm in the Over Rail area of the community.

‘’The cattle breeder was said to have used a sharp dagger to rip open Ajambele’s stomach with his intestines gushing out. He was rushed to the hospital where he luckily survived. ‘’The cases of invasion of farmlands in Ebem and Akanu communities nearly resulted in bloodbath but for the wisdom of the leaders in the community who reported the matter to the authorities.

‘’The case was so serious that the Abia State government had to intervene to restrain the youths in the communities from retaliating. It set up a peace committee that quelled the then imminent crises,” he said and prayed the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, to assist in bringing the alleged criminal activities of the Fulani herdsmen under control.

Anger trails Fulani herdsmen activities in Enugu. Also in Enugu State communities have been grumbling over the alleged inability of security agencies to curtail the criminal activities of suspected Fulani herdsmen who had robbed, raped and killed some of their victims apart from destroying their farm lands.

From Agbakwe, Ette, Akpakume, Ebe, Opanda, Nara, Ibagwa, Ukana, Oruku, Isi -Ogbo communities where activities of herdsmen have been pronounced, farmers in the area literally live in fear of engaging in farming activities as the herdsmen have forcefully acquired massive farm lands belonging to the people for grazing activities and settlement.

In Nkpologu community, Uzo – Uwani Local Government Area last December, suspected Fulani robbers killed one Veronica Ezugwu, 23, who hailed from Agum village in the area. Ezugwu was returning to the village for her traditional marriage and the New Year when she was shot inside a commercial bus by the suspected Fulani robbers who were operating in the area.

She later died at the Annunciation Hospital, Emene, Enugu where she was rushed to in January, having sustained severe gunshot wounds during the attack...

FreeGlobe:
Mr. Falae said he was kidnapped by six Fulani herdsmen last Monday at his Ilado farm in Akure. The 77-year-old warned that such attack should not be allowed to happen again as it could result to even graver consequences.

“It is not because of me. As for me, I am a very humble person, but by virtue of what God has made me and the status God has given me, it is an insult to our race that a man like me could be abducted by a bunch of hoodlums,” he said.

“By the way, one of them told me, he said, ‘Baba, if after you leave us you talk nonsense I will come and catch you again’. That is the kind of insult I received.
”

Asked if the kidnappers were illiterates, he replied: “Only two of them could speak some English. They were between the ages of 25 and 35. They were Fulani, they spoke Hausa.”

Mr. Falae however said it was plausible that his ordeal was closely connected to his conflict with Fulani herdsmen who consistently grazed at his farm.

“The cattle rearers have been giving me a hard time for the past two or three years. Because I have a dam on the farm, so they like to bring their cattle there to drink water, then they eat other people’s crops,” he stated.

“This time they ate up my maize farm, two hectares. We took pictures, and it was videoed, the police went there. They were asked to pay compensation, they begged and paid half of what we claimed and we accepted it.

“That was about two months ago. Whether it was one of them who went to bring his brothers to come and deal ‘with this wicked man’, I don’t know. It is plausible. Absolutely plausible.

“My view is that this is my home. I have not gone to farm in any other person’s territory. This is my home where I was born. I have every right to farm here and live in peace here. So, this is totally unacceptable.

“I once told the Commissioner of Police that if he cannot protect us and protect my farm, that I will protect myself. There will be self-help if government fails to protect its citizens.

“It would have been unfortunate if that were to happen. The IG met me and gave me assurances that they will give us protection. I hope that we as a community in Ondo State and in Yoruba land as a whole must go into consultation to ensure that we enhance our protection. We cannot be slaves in our own territory.”

Mr. Falae said he was not surprised that the police could not trace and arrest the kidnappers because of the manner of their movement and operation.

“These fellows were permanently on the move. Day and night they were walking. Through farm lands, through water, through swamps…they were scared, they knew they could be traced with GPRS, that was why they were running around all the time,” he said.

“I was not surprised at all that the police could not trace them before they decided to let me go.”

Monarch, brother abducted in Akwa Ibom

[b]on September 29, 2015

By Emman Ovuakporie

ABUJA—The monarch of Ibiaku Issiet in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Williams Etim, has been kidnapped along with his elder brother, Mr. Placid Etim. The kidnappers have demanded N200 million ransom.

The victims were abducted at about 2:30am yesterday at their country home in Ibioku Essiet, according to a member of the family and former member of the House of Representatives, Bassey Effiong Etim.

Etim, who briefed journalists in Abuja on the development yesterday, said the criminals called him to demand N200 million ransom.

“They called me about 12:00noon today (yesterday) to demand N200 million, and I’m just wondering how I can raise that kind of money,” he lamented.

The ex-lawmaker, who was the Chairman of the House Committee on Economic and Financial Crimes, Drugs and Narcotics from 2007-2011, regretted the incessant kidnapping in the country, especially in its southern part.

Etim confessed that the abductees were his “blood brothers” and pleaded with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to come to their rescue.

He, however, commended the President for the swift rescue of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae. He urged the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Department for State Service, DSS, and other security agencies to move swiftly to rescue the abductees.

“I am using this medium to commend the Federal government and the Inspector General of Police for the efforts in the rescue of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae.

‘’I’m in the same vein calling on the Inspector General of Police, the DSS and other security operatives to move and rescue these innocent and law abiding citizens presently suffering untold hardship in the den of kidnappers,” he said.

According to him, several attempts to reach one of the supposed kidnappers who called earlier to demand the ransom, were unsuccessful.

Five ExxonMobil staff kidnapped in Akwa Ibom

Posted by: niyi April 2, 2015

Unknown gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped five ExxonMobil staff at its Floating Storage and Offloading Vessel (FSO) at the Qua Iboe Terminal Ibeno in Akwa Ibom State, reports say.

According to a witness who spoke to journalists on the condition that his name will not be published, said that five indigenous personnel who were working offshore at the FSO were kidnapped by the gunmen suspected to be militants and were taken to an unknown destination.

Following the kidnapping, troops have been drafted to the area to secure the workers. However, fear of further attacks by the militants have made the management of ExxonMobil and workers result to resuming late to work.

The source further said that since the kidnapping the management now shut down production by 1p.m

“They are scared that the militants will attack them again. Since they kidnapped five oil workers at the offshore, they are thinking that they might attack them at onshore that is why they shutdown the production,” he said.

The source said that security had advised ExxonMobil management to bring all the vessels together to avert further kidnapping of personnel by the militants in the area.

“Any vessel that is actively working, Mobil should now have three anchorages so that those vessels will be under security watch.

“Each of the anchorages will not stand close to each other so that they can have security watch in order to forestall militancy coming close to the vessel,” he said.

Tension heightened following last weekend’s election loss of President Goodluck Jonathan to Gen Muhammadu Buhari, as insinuations ahead of the elections that ex-militants in the Niger Delta may return to the creeks was given credence by former militant leader, Asari-Dokubo.

“The conditions that advanced the need to embrace the creeks have been sadly re-energised, it is clear that a vicious government who may maim and murder the voice of the so called minorities may have just been birthed.

“Indeed integration is nonexistent as regional gang ups and supremacy is symbolic with this victory,” Asari-Dokubo said.

See the slaves going after akwa-ibom. Even akwa-ibom are more of a freeborn than una. We've yet to see them degrade themselves the yoloba do on daily basis nor do we see them being slaves in their land. Yoloba.... you're slavess in South West and slaves even in middle belt or do you want to repost the article where una were whining about igala enslaving una to. grin grin

NA WAH O... grin grin grin.
It makes me laugh when IGBOS even call anybody slave talk less of their CHI(YORUBAS)...
REASONS:
1.They are a conquered tribe and would forever be slaves and at the mercy of their conquerors..YORUBAS AND HAUSA-FULANIS... grin
2.They troop to their conqueror land in order to make ends meet and help in developing their conqueror land...just like Pakistanis in UK helping the BrItons to develop UK.YORUBAS ARE BRITONS...IGBOS ARE PAKISTANIS.... shocked shocked shocked shocked
3.Their SLAVEMASTERS...YORUBAS...do not go to their poverty stricken region but go to UK,USA,RUSSIA,JAPAN ETC
4.Their Slavemasters...Yorubas have deported them once but due to a lot of begging, allow them to continue with their modern slavish attitude in YORUBALAND... grin grin grin grin grin ETC ETC
