Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday, gave what he termed as genuine reasons the United Nations should allow Biafra to be separated from Nigeria. One of the reasons, he stated, was that the population of the former Eastern state, now South East and part of South South that make up Biafra land can currently boast of over 10 million people, adding that the Biafran people naturally do not share similar culture and tradition with Hausa-Fulani of the North and Yoruba of the South West as to continue to remain together under one country called Nigeria. Uwazuruike Uwazuruike According to Uwazuruike, another reason was that MASSOB, as a separatist group, had all it takes to run a sovereign state of Biafra, having had enough instruments, structures, flag, currency, coat of arms and defence to assume a status of an existing government. Uwazuruike, who spoke to newsmen, yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra State, through MASSOB’s Deputy National Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, ahead of the on-going UN General Assembly, renewed his call on the world body to accord a recognition to Biafra as a sovereign state, just as it did to South Sudan which had been accorded a sovereign status since July 9, 2011. He recalled that US had classified Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan as failed states which needed to be divided between 2011 and 2015, adding that it was only from Sudan that South Sudan was carved out on July 9, 2011, remaining Nigeria, Ethiopia and Somalia. He cited examples of carving out of East-Timor with only a population of about 821,000 from Indonesia on May 22, 2002; carving out of Serbia with a population of about 10 million from Montenegro on July 2006; carving out of South Ossertia from Georgia and carving out of Kosovo from Serbia on February 17, 2008. He, therefore, urged UN to grant the sovereignty of Biafra to save the people from further annihilation in Nigeria since there was no basis whatsoever for Biafra people’s continued stay with Nigeria, adding, “Nigeria cannot make any appreciable economic progress until Biafra is allowed to go, particularly now that Lord Fredrick Luggard’s amalgamation of 1914 has since January 1, 2014, expired after 100 years of the amalgamation.” He wondered why the UN had not been proactive in tackling the knotty problems of the oppressed in Nigeria and asked rhetorically: “is UN waiting till things degenerate into full blown war again or to continue as genocide before they will act?” ADVERTISE YOUR PRODUCT AND SERVICES ON www.hostestore.com FOR FREE |

Sometimes I wonder wat is the problem, it's not corruption it's Tribalism, the south East never thought of Biafra when Jonathan was president for 6yrs, since he lost, unnessary agitation began, if he had won, nothing of such will resurface. Far in the North, it's Boko Haram believed to be manipulated to bring down Jonathan govt, as u can see, even with PMB it has not disappeared. Let's put Tribalism apart, South Eastern brothers please for the sake of peace Nigeria has come to stay, support the PMB even if you don't want him but because he'll be there till 2019. Long life Federal Republic of Nigeria |

Keep dreaming Mr IPOB. I have said it severally that the Igbo's will get Biafra only on one condition. Which is; only counting on the 5 Igbo speaking states of Anambra, Enugu, Imo , Abia and Ebonyi States. But any attempt to include my state of Rivers state and other south-south states, will never work. We in the south-south are more than 10 million in population. We can as well become our own country if it comes to that. The Biafra should form their own country and look outside of my region. |

Here is my opinion. At such an important gathering where the 70th UN General Meeting coincided with a renewed effort by Biafrans for UN recognition, the prudent thing to do would be to stage a public rally in Manhattan, right there in Times Square, just walking distance of less than ten blocks from UN Hq, and also flood internet and social media with tag #biafra and draw public attention and make Biafra the new Palestine in the global conscience. If this had happened, global leaders attending UN meeting and the accredited Journalists covering the event would notice and the Nigerian delegate would be cornered to address questions unofficially and off camera. This will create a task agenda for investigative journalists who might end up championing the Biafran cause for global awareness. Instead of thinking proactively along this line, Ibos, as typical for them to do, choosed to position their cart before the horse by beating down on Nigeria and using internet and radio to harass Yorubas and Hausas and thereby position Nigeria as the victim of Biafran aggression instead of the other way around. When will these cowards get some sense and understand how to turn political opportunities into gains that favor their interest , when? ![]() |

eventsms:If one of the basis of this people leaving is based on US opinion, I don't think they opened their eyes to see what has been going on ever since with US interference in most countries affairs. The WEST have never wanted a United Africa ever since, cos they are very much aware of the great strength we possess when we're together. If Biafra want to really leave make them leave and stop coming out quote some power drunk that call themselves world ruler. |

eventsms:Let me give my own opinion on the genuiness of the reasons. I would like to ask, have MASSOB and Chief Ralph Uwazurike made an official presentation to the UN stating these genuine reasons? One of the reasons, he stated, was that the population of the former Eastern state, now South East and part of South South that make up Biafra land can currently boast of over 10 million people, adding that the Biafran people naturally do not share similar culture and tradition with Hausa-Fulani of the North and Yoruba of the South West as to continue to remain together under one country called Nigeria.Poor reason. Population in itself is not a valid reason for secession. There are many sovereign states with population less than 1 million and there are sovereign states with population of over 1 billion. Sharing similar culture and tradition is not necessary a basis for secession, else countries like USA, South Africa, Canada and most African states with multicultural and multiracial population would not exist. Nigeria is made up of over 250 ethnic groups and not just Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba, so you cannot bases your argument for secession based on your dislike for just 2 ethnic groups. Besides, you people always add other ethnic groups in the South South to your Biafra, like the Annangs, the Ijaws, the Calabaris, etc. Are you not still creating a mini Nigeria? According to Uwazuruike, another reason was that MASSOB, as a separatist group, had all it takes to run a sovereign state of Biafra, having had enough instruments, structures, flag,Biafra does not have a currency, nor a central bank, Biafra does not have any military or police, so this is a white lie. A flag and logo does not connote instruments of states as every organization has them. Uwazuruike, who spoke to newsmen, yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra State, through MASSOB’s Deputy National Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, ahead of the on-going UN General Assembly, renewed his call on the world body to accord a recognition to Biafra as a sovereign state, just as it did to South Sudan which had been accorded a sovereign status since July 9, 2011.Where did he call and re-call the UN to accord recognition to Biafra? Why did he not go to Newyork and protest in front of the UN building during the General Assembly. He recalled that US had classifiedNigeria had never been classified as a failed state. Even Sudan and Ethiopia had never been classified as a failed state. A failed state is a state without a recognized government. Only Somalia fit that classification. |

Biafra needs to be allowed to govern itself. The injustices and oppression is now too much. No matter what they do, more people have realized Nigeria is a fraudulent enterprise and must be fundamentally restructured or give freedom to all the constituent nations that made up Nigeria. |
