I bet you that the so-called airport will remain an abode for wild beasts in the next 7yrs...it is an unsustainable white elephant project & true Ekiti pple like me know it!

The nearest airport to Ado-Ekiti is Akure, which is just 42.6 km / 26.5 miles away.

Oga akure does not have an airport. What they have is an airstrip where private jets can land. Have you ever heard or seen any akure airport before. The only functional airport closest to ekiti is in ilorin where commercial flights are operated. Its a good one by fayose as it will create more jobs in the state and boost their tourism industry as foreigners who don't like traveling by road can now fly into ekiti. Tourism will inturn bring more revenue for the state government.

fayose is also planning to build a world class shopping mall where the likes of shoprite and other foreign brands will operate. So consumable goods and cargo will come in through this airport. This will also create many direct and indirect jobs. I am not from ekiti state but will commend this man as the man of the people. Aregbesola and some other governors are busy building religious centres and buying private jets when salaries have not been paid. Other state governors should emulate the giant strides of fayose in a small state with little resources like ekiti. God bless Nigeria

Nigerian Manager Decries Low Patronage into Akure Airport

The airport manager in charge of Akure airport in Ondo state, Mrs. Victoria Shin-Aba has decried the state of flight activity into the facility describing it as poor and negatively affecting the revenue generation drive from the aerodrome.

She said the facility is one of the airports under the control of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) only records three weekly flights with an average number of between 20 and 30 passengers traffic operated by Associated airlines on the Akure-Abuja route.

While affirming that discussions are at advanced stage with other airlines on the possibility to kick start shuttle flight operations from Lagos into the state capital, she told reporters that “We need more flights and more airlines to come to Akure airport. There is no life here with the level of operations”.

Also she said the timely completion of the abandoned airport terminal for over six months will help put a breathe new life into the place, and appeals to the federal government to order the contractor back to site with a view to completing the terminal building.....

... She explained that with a 2.8 kilometers runway, the airport was capable of handling a B737 aircraft adding that the airport has a standard fire tender.

On security put in place at the airport, the manager said “We make sure that we are in control of the operational area and try to make sure that we secure it because we have the largest land mass as an airport.
