I should tell you my state. Hmmmm. Did you read my comments on this thread? State any town, community, or LGA of your choice in Delta state and let's discuss the developmental stride.

There is no state that doesn't have a place like this in the state capital. Youths of my area came out one time nd dug out all the drainages that had been blocked by refuse to let water pass thru instead of waiting for government nd crying to the wrong people in the wrong place. If that's your area, u can help yourselves or keep patiently waiting for government

You said they cleared the drainage , right. Most roads in Delta state have no drainage. The few that has, e.g. Owa-eke road that leads to the governor's residence in Agbor, is higher than the road itself. From his residence down to his village, Owa-eke on the same road, there is no drainage. So stop blaming the masses ignorantly. Okowa, the de facto political leader of the Owas was the sole beneficiary of government contracts in Ika. Unfortunately, the few that were executed cannot stand public scrutiny.

They cleared the drainage to help themselves. .... do something to help yourselves in your area, that's the message of the post. not evangelising clearing of drainages. .. .

You must be one of those 'my leader, my honourable' gang member. You think without the individual efforts of the unsung masses the society wouldn't have collapsed long before now.
It is when the masses get overwhelmed by abject neglect from the govt that they cry out. But of course, 'briefcase carrier' like you will rather see the masses collapse under the weight of civic responsibility than call a govt to order.

I dunno Wat your briefcase carrier means o. but if politicians ignore the masses, we can help ourselves as much as we can. I see youths turning to touts everyday, collecting one task or the other but cannot bring themselves together for a reasonable purpose like making the roads to their houses passable until the government is touched by God to come repair it. I heard your Asagba ate the money nd he doesn't live around DLA to be bothered. so either you guys bring yourselves together and make a way for the water to pass thru, or keep posting it on social networks, that'll surely help

Mr The Blind Man, every state in the south has erosion problems. What you are foolishly ignorant of is the significance of that road in the OP post. It is DLA road where the DLA is located. By the way, do you know what DLA stands for? Now listen, it stands for DIRECT LABOUR AGENCY. An agency responsible for maintaining roads in Delta state. Imagine the state of the road they are situated. What will other roads look like.
I dont even know your state of origin. If it's Delta state, then I am doubly, terribly, pissed off with you.

I am proudly Deltan and know the road very well. I also know how Asaba was as at 1991 when it was created because I lived along old Awain Road.
Asaba was bush and it has come a long way. Lagos, Benin and Ogun on the other hand were already developed and bustling.
I know both Ibori and Uduaghan underperformed but I can put it to you that they both made Oshiomole look like a primary school governor (that's who he is anyway).
Concerning Lagos. Fashola started well but his 2nd term was a sham. Roads are bad almost every where.
Ogun state story is the same, Amosun started very well but has since gone to sleep. Projects are abandoned in almost all LGA's (that I've been to).
And again, my point is that the pictures I was expecting to see of flooding in Asaba was not this. If these are the pictures that's making people insult the past govt then people in Benin, Abeaokuta, Lagos will have to not just curse but hang the governors.

Lastly, flooding is a problem in every state, the real issue should be the state of the roads when they get flooded. If the roads are good when they get flooded, people will still be able to use them. That's what I saw in some of the Asaba pictures but that's not what happen in Benin and many parts of Lagos and Ogun.

Clearing drainage is not restricted to your area. Its done everywhere where drainage exist. Even youths in flooded area dig gutter to drain water to provided channels. The state should at least provide channels. Do you expect citizen to dig drainage that will span at least 3 kilometres to the nearest river, stream or "borrow-pit"? There is limit to self help.
Check pix below and tell me where to channel the flood.

Re: Pictures Of Asaba After The Rain by milkymesh: 4:17pm On Oct 04, 2015
NOTE:
DLA was provided with a mediocre "drainage" that drains water no where. Even if every able person in asaba come to clear the drain, it will yield no result for the following reasons:

1. The drain are sealed with a removable slab every 30 or 40 feet. Its such that it will be difficult for manual clearing.
2. Where will the water in the drainage flow to when there are filled. NO WHERE. Meaning, when filled they flow back into the road and adjioning residence..

Is this how how the whole if Asaba look like?
Last Bullet:
This propaganda has failed on arrival!
Bros, its not propaganda. Over 80% of the roads are like the ones the OP posted or worse. Most street residents have to buy tipper loads of red sand to fill up the huge gullies in the streets. Its deplorable. Apart from Nnebisi rd, summit road and Cabinet road, d other roads aren't even kekerable anymore. If Uduaghan goes free, then I will believe Baba aint fighting any corruption. Keke operators pushing their keke, which always goes off inside the knee-length floods is common sights everywhere in Asaba. Same with people fording the water with folded troussers cos there is usually, no dry spot to even walk, adults carrying young children across the ubquitous swimming pools in virtually every area of the town, . Sometime in August 2014 in broad daylight, I fell into a ditch in d centre of the road and bruised my knee along the same DLA rd. The ditch was covered as usual with stagnant water just as you see in the pics. While trying to make my way through it, I stepped into a deeper portion of the gully and hit by knee on a stone underneath water. It's not funny. Pls stop dismissing it as propaganda. Its horrible

God bless you. People have no idea of the infrastructural decay in Asaba. It can't properly be put into words.
