Senate to fix date for ministerial screening tomorrow
The Senate is expected tomorrow to fix a date for the screening of the ministerial nominees submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari, Daily Trust has gathered.
The fixing of the date would be preceded by the unveiling of the ministerial nominees list submitted by President Buhari last Wednesday.
Senators, our correspondent reports, would be reconvening tomorrow after the Independence Day holiday they embarked upon last Wednesday.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki had shortly after receiving the ministerial list said the sealed parcel would be unveiled tomorrow during plenary.
Our correspondent gathered that after unveiling the “President parcel,” Saraki would announce a date for the proper screening and confirmation of the nominees.
A principal officer told our correspondent that the ministerial nominees would be given “enough” time to prepare for the screening. He said the procedure to be used for the screening may also be adopted during tomorrow’s sitting.
“We cannot just ask the nominees to come forward immediately for the screening because most of them are not aware of their nomination into the Federal Executive Council. The screening is like a job interview and as such we are going to give them time to prepare for it,” the principal officer said.
It was gathered that the nominees were only contacted last Friday by the presidency to forward their Curriculum Vitae (CVs) for the job.
Contacted, leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume said due process would be followed in the screening and also confirmed that a date for the screening would be fixed tomorrow.
“We are not going to introduce anything to make it difficult for the nominees, we will follow due process and we will be thorough. We are not going to make a big deal out of the screening. The screening proper would not be immediately,” he said.
