Excessive Barking - I Need Help. Urgent!! by DidiLove1: 10:11am On Oct 05, 2015
I just brought back my 15 months rottweiler after keeping her with a friend for some time. She's just spent two days with me but the barking at night is out of this world. Like she has a target to keep the entire neighborhood up with her thunderous bellows! She's out during the day but kept in her cage at night. Please I will appreciate suggestions from experienced petlanders with large dogs on how to reduce the barking to a minimum. Thanks fam.

Well she is not used to the area anymore, this will happen for about 2 to 4 days, after that the dog will be back to normal

Firstly never shout at your dog to shut up when barking as that will make her bark more, try to make her understand the word "quiet" and be submissive when you say "quiet".
Tell your dog to stop barking using a
look, a sound, or a physical correction.
But don't stop there. Your dog may
pause and then go right back to what he
was doing. His body relaxed, but his
brain was still on alert. Just stay there and make sure she stop barking completely before you leave.
Secondly make sure she is well exercised as boredom can cause excessive barking in dogs.

Simple trick...

Get a lot of bones...when ur dog starts his barking session, give him the bones. I bet you, by the time he's done with a dozen bones, he'd have forgotten what he was barking at initially.

Try this, thank me later...

Dogs are silly u know. This has always worked for me sha

What? Don't do that. Nobody does that. Why are you doing that? Let her out at night and the barking will reduce. She's just bored in the cage.

Bones na like toys to them...most dogs, especially GSDs and rotties bark just because they're bored and not necessarily because they saw something to trigger the barks...

An average Nigerian will tell you it's because they see spirits, I never believed that anyways.

Give them a lot of bones and by the time they're done with the rocky bones, even their jaws won't allow them bark for long, it's a way of expending their energy...

There are other methods which I'll never advice. I see it animal cruelty. The use of the control collar. They shld have it in agege pet market. If a dog has it on and he barks, it triggers an electric shock. Repeated barks triggers an even more intense shock. So ur dog learns not to bark.

The problem here is u will end up breeding a dumb dog, cos he gets used to not barking, even when faced by intruders.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try the feasible ones and stick to the one that works.

Uncle...

In addition to the suggestions, like seun said release the dog at night. But Incase you have a reason not to release your dog at night stress out the dog like oluomo said. If both doesn't work then pour water on the dog whenevet it starts excessive barking. But if u really want to sleep fine, release the dog.

Its also possible the rats are teasing yr dog...its either tom or jerry. Lol

Which ones do you intend to try? Pls report the results of your trials to us so we can learn. Did the dog bark excessively at her previous home?

Released her last night and the barking reduced to manageable levels. Already making arrangements to get the bones and will throw that in as well. @Prodegee....lol
