These are not the best of times for former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi. The President Buhari’s ministerial nominee seems to be in hot soup as senators from his home state are shouting blue murder that he must clear himself of the N70billion fraud allegation that is contained in a petition before the senate.
Senator George Sekibo has been telling his colleagues that the former governor allegedly transferred over N70billion from hard currency account of Rivers State Government to places outside Nigeria. These days, with the influx of many social media platforms, proper journalism has been thrown to the dusts as people can comfortably type and post (/ copy and paste) anything they like to the satisfaction of their whims and caprices. Talk is cheap!. If one has such evidence, is it the Senate that one sends a petition or he goes to court to get justice?. People have forgotten that this is democracy as such anyone can lay any allegation against anybody just to defame or malign the person. If we go by "talk-talk", Buhari wouldn't have been Nigerian president today. There were severe media smears against his person and character prior to the elcetion time. It is very unfortunate, what Nigerian politics is turning into. However, I believe that at the end, truth will overshadow vindictiveness.
