01ghostmode:The MONTHLY connects given to you should be 60 each month. And that SHOULD be enough for a starter. If it's not then that could be due to one or more of basically four reasons: 1. You are not applying to the right jobs rightly. 2. Your proposals are not properly written. 3. You spam the system by submitting proposals without any plan or strategy. 4. You don't read the job briefs carefully and follw the instructions strictly when submitting your proposals. Newbies are usually guilty of much of the above. And one of the main reasons the connect system was introduced ealier this year was specifically to discurage and possibly curb the above scenarios. In fact, right now, I've not been using more than 2 or 4 connects in a month. But that's mainly because I'm kind of established already ( Top Rated status with 100% client satisfaction and 4.98 stars rating). Matter of fact, a vast majority of my contracts in the last three months were initiated by my clients. They simply invited me to interviews after seeing my profile via Upwork search engine. Being invited to a job by a prospective client means that you can get the job without spending any connects. So sometimes I may go for an entire month without submitting a single proposal for a job; which means my 60 connects usually go largely untouched month after month. Upwork did a lot of research before introducing the connects system. And one basic rule of thumb is that 60 connects/month should be enough for a responsible freelancer who knows what she's doing. |

Mcslize:You are totally welcome. The Writely Pro is a plain text editor just like ColorNote but with added benefit of Markdown preview. NOTE: I seriously reccommend that you should use www.grammarly.com to review and edit your text to ensure topnotch grammar and style. The WPS Office does not have any GRAMMAR checker, and even the spell checker it has is not efficient at all. That's why I use ColorNote most of the times. But that one too can only check for misspellings BUT NOT GRAMMAR. UPDATE For those who may not afford the premium feature at grammarly.com you may check out this totally free (no need to signup) alternative: http://www.hemingwayapp.com |

G12:Upwork is built on reputation. In other words, the key to success at Upwork is high reputation. But high reputation is a result of the sum of three things as follows: Awesome Skill + Savvy Marketing/Branding + Consistent Client Satisfaction = High Reputation. Now coming to your question, yes, there is HIGH demand for GOOD/GREAT writers at Upwork, but there's HUGE competition too, hence the need for savviness in marketing and consistency in client satisfaction. The platform is meant for hardworking professionals. Regarding my charges, I seriously felt like keeping quiet on this, but I guess some folks here would benefit from the transparency. So here you go: My first project on Upwork was a book editing test gig for 5 hours at $3 per hour. After the test assignment the woman was pleased with my passion (and even gave me a 5 star rating and amazing feedback) but she also felt I was NOT a good fit for the main assignment. So she did not continue the project with me as we both hoped. After that experience, I increased my hourly rate to $5.56 per hour, and someone hired me on that basis. I later increased to $8 an hour, someone also hired me. I then increased again to $10 per hour, I was hired again. And recently because of HIGH DEMAND I skyrocketed my rate to $28 per hour. No one has been bold enough to hire me on that rate yet. ;-) I've also done some fixed projects ( specifically I've ghostwritten a number of ebooks for clients, many of which hit #1 spots in various categories in the Kindle Bestseller lists). The first book I wrote was 5000 words for $40 and the most recent one was 24,000 words for $400. So that's it laid out for you as plainly as it gets. Hope it helps. |

Yeah! Thanks. I'll try it out and maybe just take my arbitrage on any niche to Craigslist. When I was charging $5/500 words article, I had many orders and I was delivering late. The clients weren't bothered about the late delivery, they always encourage me to take my time since they were sure of getting quality job. Since I increased my rate to $10/500 words, the orders reduced but I'm making a little bit more than I was at $5 with less effort. Writing is a challenging task, yet many clients still want to pay peanuts. It's somehow annoying. That's why I want to try other things. |

G12:You're totally welcome @G12 Well, it depends on who you write for, where else you write (that's outside the freelnace platform) and most importantly, how you market and brand your writing skills. Some writers are really hitting it big. And no matter what else you do, I think that great writing skill is, and will continue to be, a foundational key to success in this digital age. And, yes, it's true that the more you write the better you get at writing. ![]() |

Professional Romance Writers For Employment (female Writers Preferred) I am looking to start a fiction college romance series with mainly female main characters. I will design the plot and overlook everything but whoever writes it will have most of the creative control. I'm thinking maybe I'll try to aim for around 30-40k words for the first one. Is that something you would be interested in? I'm thinking basically the show Sex and The City except the women are in college now. Professional and gifted writer only: send me your C.V and sample(s) of romance story related to this work to aprofessor@naij.com |

@ Paschu, thanks! @Victor, very reliable. Been using their MTN method. The Etisalat is a new release and that's what I'm using on PC. Still using my remaining MTN subscription on mobile. I learned the #150 subscription is a one time, meaning you only have to upgrade after that for unlimited data. @Pocoapoco, please do as @Paschu has explained. To avoid getting banned that's while I had to post it that way. |

ipain:Sorry Bro, I don't think that's a cheat cos I paid for the MTN subscription and also paid for the premium VPN tool minimising my data usage or increasing the amount of data available to me. I don't know how they do it, but I paid at both ends and the amount is fair to me compared to the normal subscription. I'm just making use of a tool to make my work easier. To answer your question, yes it is still working and that is what I used in replying you. Please note that I am not the owner of the site I recommended, I only shared an information available to me and is offering me great benefits. You can please direct all your questions to the site's admin. Thank you. |

paschu, I saw wordpress job and I know I can do it. But I don't have any samples to show at the moment. Should I still submit a proposal? |
| Re: Elance.com, Upwork.com And Other Freelancing Site: How To Succeed Guide. by paschu: 1:17am On Oct 10, 2015 |
fxbot:Of course, you may submmit your proposal. But I'd suggest you take time to ensure you really understood the job brief before writing the proposal. And since you actually know what the job entails it might be better to go ahead and give the prospect a very specific LIST of the steps that need to be taken to complete the project, and the potential trouble-spots to avoid (just as though you're teaching someone how to do the job). This is better than just making an EMPTY promise (like everyone else) without verifiable proofs. It'd also make you stand out from the rest. However, you must realize that some folks won't even look at a freelancer's proposal if it does not include a sample of his previous work. That's normal. So it should not discourage you if you're not taken. But make sure you submit at least one well written and very targetd proposal EACH DAY. You may also consider doing some dummy but well executed projects to feature on your portfolio as samples. I wish you the best. And plesse do let the house know how it turns out. |
