Time To Remove Your Straws by GAZZUZZ(op):
If your intake system has a plastic pipe located close to the bottom of your bumper, now is a good time to disconnect it. For get all that crap about factory specs, if water goes up that pipe, your engine will hydrolock pistons might bend or break and in most cases burst out of the engine block grin

If you run thru water and your engine suddenly shuts off, do not try starting it! Push or tow it out then remove all spark plugs and ensure there's no water in your cylinders, before you try figuring out what went Wrong.

Exactly what happened to my 2007 Accord in 2013. Flood water entered the air intake through the resonator located below behind the bumper. But due to my inexperience, I tried starting the engine it suffered hydrolock.

Thanks for educatingetting the house.

The Whiteman that built that car never knew we'll be 'smart' enough to take it for a swim every time it rains but there is also a snorkel made for those with good clearance and willing to go off road.

A friend of mine is replacing his engine for this exact same reason.
Mine has d inlet almost as high as the bonnet, so I think I'm in d clear. I can actually use my car as a boat. grin

Dude, do u want it on d roof of d car?
Or better still, do u want me to hang it with a pole?
I only need a boat, not a submarine.

Take it a minimum of 25m or higher then its gonna be high enough and clear to enter even the lagoon. wink cheesy tongue

The point where the engine sucks in air through the air filter before clean air goes into the engine.
If this section is submerged water will get into your intake where atomised fuel and air get compressed and ignited by the spark plug that give the explosion that turns your engine. That is why they say remove the spark plug so water get pushed out through the spark plugs hole when you restart the car.

Imagine someone sticking a pole through the wheel of a moving bicycle that is the your of sudden stop your engine feels when it hydro lock
