I used to hear it from friends back in secondary school that nobody can use more than 10% of their brain and I saw the same topic somewhere yesterday.

I totally disagree with this, how can you tell me am not using more than 10% of my brain? To anybody that agrees with this assertion, please kindly answer these questions.

1. Why is it that whenever I sit in front of my laptop coding for hours my forehead starts aching me and research confirmed it to be as a result of stress, why is the brain stressed at a usage of less than 10% ?

2. Who knows brain capacity or what can you use to quantify brain capacity ?

3. My small biology knowledge tells me that brain has different parts, does it mean that those parts function less than 2% of their capabilities ?

4. Why is it that people tends to run mad whenever they over stressed the brain ?

True, No one can use up to ten per cent of his/her cerebral capacity, The only animal capable of such feat is the dolphin.

Dolphins have two hemispheres just like humans however, theirs are split into four lobes instead of three. The fourth lobe in the dolphin’s brain actually hosts all of the senses, whereas in a human, the senses are split. Some believe that having all of the senses in one lobe allow the dolphin to make immediate and often complicated judgments that are well beyond the scope of a human ability.

Op that's a myth which has been accepted over time,according to neurologist, the reason for the acceptance is because,the human brain is naturally lazy and always seek shortcut to solving problems,that's why's its been encouraged to stress the brain and work it to limitless use and productivity but the unfortunate thing is nobody can use their brain limitless even though it possible

The reason why nobody can use their brain limitlessly is because human is a symbol of co-existence and for you to cope with other social being in the intricate social web you just have to act like them and fit in or blend in that's why we have culture,religion,education etc,what this does to the brain is to programme your level of thinking and when step out of that mental programming,you become alien to the rest of social being,for instance, the atheists who debunk religion are seen as socially awkward because they rejected the conformity to religion prior to over use of their brain.

Another reason is human uses organic thoughts most times and decline stressing their brain thereby limiting the usage of brain capacity,for instance,they say if you hang with intelligent people who think outside the box,you likely to be intelligent but if you hang with not so intelligent people,you level of thinking would be myopic.

Another reason is natural instinct and human bias such as stereotypes,prejudice,racism,Value,Belief sysetm etc.
These whole process affects the effective usage of the brain to its full capacity.


Conclusion-The brain is the engine of the body while it heart is like the battery that enables ignition to the brain,the brain is capable of anything and has no limitation to what it can do,the only limitation is you believing the myth that brain uses 10% of it capacity.

OP, to answer your question:
The answer is no.
I consider the people that believe the myth to be self-proclaimed idiots.

Different parts of the brain perform different actions:
eg the cerebellum, the back part of the brain controls balance and the use of muscles while the cerebrum the front part of the brain that is believed to be where thoughts occur.
So as you can plainly see if you can walk and think and talk at the same time then you're clearly using more than 10% of your brain.
