WHO ARE THOSE LATER DAY CONVERTEES WHO DARE TO QUESTION THE SUITABILITY OR OTHERWISE OF THIS MOHAMMED? WHEN THEY WERE ALL SLEEPING OR FIGHTING AGAINST PMB, THIS MAN, MOHAMMED AND ALEX IDEH FROM DELTA STATE CANVASSING FOR APC. NOW THAT THE FOOD IS DONE, THOSE ENEMIES ARE CALLING NAMES. IN DELTA STATE, THE LIKE OF AKPEKI, AYIRI, UKUBEYINJE ETC WERE BUSY FIGHTING APC DEVOTEES BUT TODAY THEY CLAIM TO LOVE APC MORE THAN THE DR. ALEX IDEH OF DELTA STATE.

Yes. APC is my platform but that is because I believe it to be a Party that can deliver for Nigeria and not because I am a die-hard APC devotee. I could easily join KOWA if that gives me a chance to serve my constituency and I am comfortable with their political ideology.

Also, I did not say all Nigerian youths are useless and misguided. My opinion is that most of them are. The few who are mature, serious and responsible will always be empowered by society. I have friends, business partners and associates who are in their sixties. Despite being over 20 years older than me, they relate to me as if we are the same age. Nigerian elders do not discriminate against young people in my opinion. It is Nigerian young people who fail to grow up, fail to see and chase what matters and fail to make themselves a force to be reckoned with.
So, only youths you deem as worthy are pronounced as USEFUL. Don't worry, keep on fooling yourself, when the people who call themselves your bosses, have sucked you dry, they will simply go into the market and get another USELESS and MISGUIDED youth to replace your sorry A**

Why do you assume I am not aware of this? My main point is that Nigerian youths are not socially responsible or patriotically focused on the input they must contribute toward the realisation of a great society that works for everyone. Most young people have a capitalist "me, myself and I" ethos and this guides their individual and selfish desire to be financially successful without feeling they owe their nation or society anything. So what if some Nigerians between the age of 30-40 are doing amazing things? They are doing it for themselves !!! I am in that age bracket and only come to nairaland because I want my nation to be better.

I will formally get involved in politics shortly, and with dedication to a better Nigeria, I have no doubt I can make a difference. The point is that Nigeria youths must get involved and stake their claim. They cannot remain on the sideline complaining when they have not shown they are leadership material. Nothing is free in life. You work for it. We have to give the elders and Nigerians a reason to believe we are ready. Bankole was a very young speaker yet he rubbished the notion that Nigerian youths are competent and responsible. Nigerian youths should look at themselves first instead of thinking anyone owes them anything.
What is patriotic about the old-timers? Isn't their selfish mismanagement of Nigeria's resources over the decades what has brought the economy to its knees?

Isn't that the reason the 'youth' whom you so casually disparage cannot get decent basic education? Isn't their lack of foundation, lack of practical, economically relevant education the reason they're not ready for leadership?

What did Bankole do different from the Tinubus, the IBBs and the Fasholas of this country? Aren't these the same carnivores who have callously eaten the future of the youth, while sequestering their own kids abroad to give them decent education?

Bruv, look around you. Do you seriously think Nigerian youths are ready for leadership? Only very few are in an age when the majority are obsessed with bling, social networking, party lifestyle and 'big man thinz'. I interact with a lot of young Nigerians (18-35) and I can say most (90%) are not serious or conscious of what matters in life and how they can contribute towards making their society better. Young people do not automatically deserve anything. They must earn whatever they want in life. If I were Buhari I would ignore Nigerian youths because of what they are. Better to recruit from an era where people were patriotic and were dedicated to serving their nation than enlist irresponsible young people from an era of narcissism and shallowness.
Who said they are not ready, are you not ready yourself? Are there not brilliant folks in this country that want to be something, who is killing their stars? Dont you thing you yourself will be a better thinker? Unlike the ones burying your beautiful ideas. Why cant you be the change people want to see? Do you now think these liars and corrupt people is worth taking decision on your behalf? Will they even allow youth to be appointed?

I sorry for Nigerian youths as they have no place in this government. They were simply lied to and used. Tinubu has his entire family including his wife in government, no Lie Mohammed equally has his son already in Lagos govt and now wants to take the minister a slot for kwara state. So much for change while the youths who really worked are left with nothing.
Bros., you dey bad ooo. You have just shot many people the killer bullets. It means every others are regarded as ordinary and meaningless humans.

They are always going to do this. That is the way competition ,and the need to thrive at the expense of others in underdeveloped nations, has shaped society. even diasporan Nigerians in developed nations face similar. Yet the central point remains that Nigerian youths should face what matter and they must fight for their own liberation. Youths worldwide do same but not Nigerian youths who remain childish childish, disunited and preoccupied with petty things and shallow interests. Next minute they will lazily ask to be made ministers and public servants. It was a young man, aged 26, who started the Arab spring.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_Bouazizi

All Nigerian youths do is complain without understand that Africa is a continent without deterrent for wrongdoing meaning that the people, especially youths, must use social powers available to them to agitate for justice and equity. If those in power do wrong and you don't make them accountable, any way you can, then don't complain if they disregard you. A good example is Abba Moro who led several Nigerian youths to their death with scam promises of jobs while he and others collected a healthy booty for their deception.

What did Nigerian youths do about such an awful and terrible development that took the lives of several of their peers? Abba Moro did not even lose his job and the callous President who backed him blindly was still supported to continue in office by youths unable to see beyond ethnocentric, religious and sectional bias. Tha fact is that Nigerian youths are terrible. Many are worthless and lag far behind their compatriots worldwide. We need to say the truth, even as I know many are not ready to hear it, so that mindset and orientation can change .

How about the many thousands of Nigerian youths who are very well-educated even up to Masters level? What are they doing for Nigeria? Are they not the same individuals who foolishly come to Nairaland to agitate for the ultra-misruling GEJ to continue in power simply because they don't wan't "aboki", even when he is far more competent than GEJ, to become President? Would you appoint youths with such fundamentally flawed mentality to run your company you have invested a lot of money in? Man mi, I am not singling out Nigerian youths. It is the same throughout Africa. Young people in Africa do not focus on what matter. This is why they have no idea regarding how to hold leaders accountable or on how to get involved in the leadership process that will improve their own future and that of those behind them.

Things must improve soon in this regard or Buhari will start feeling the heat.
I'm with you on this bro, Boko Haram are on a free ride and someone has to bring to a halt.
Let's wait and see as things unfold, I sincerely hope this govt delivers on their numerous campaign promises.

The APC spokesman also explained that the emergence of his son as a member of Lagos state house of assembly was his own political reward for his service to the people of the area which they willingly gave him,and so had nothing to do with his own nomination as a minister.

Ministerial Position= Political Reward
Lagos state house of assembly= Political Reward

Father and son = Political Rewardees grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Most of the commentators here were either still in their diapers or sleeping away their lives when Lai Mohammed was doing his work bringing the opposition to the limelight which eventually won at national and most state levels.

You are just here ranting.

Please leave that nonsense, of maybe 200 or more politicians who owe their ascendancy to association with Tinubu, less than 10% are his family members. It is not new even in the largest democracy in the world as far the elections are credible. Will anybody come and call you just because you rant online and post with a faceless moniker, and then abandon the men and women who leave their comfort to attend meetings, organise, travel and donate resources, money, cars to the cause.

In India Nehru was the first prime minister, his daughter, Indira became PM, his grandson became PM and his grandson's wife almost became PM if not that she was Italian born.

In the USA, Kennedy's father was a politician before his son became president, another son Robert who was appointed into his brother's cabinet also became a leading presidential candidate before he was assassinated. Ted Kennedy another brother was one of the longest running Senators in US congress. George Bush became president and 8 years later his son became president and concurrently another son Jeb, was governor in another state.

Nigerians only shout are they the only one because of one thing, it is called 'longer throat' and the intention to also go and loot as we still see public office as a free ticket to inexplicable wealth. If you are talking about how much of a misfit Lai Mohamed's son is a misfit for the position he occupies then there is a debate.

Not that i am cool with the current idea of our current crop of politician as they are not much different from the average follower as most still see public office as a reward and not service as illustrated by Lai Mohammed's reference to political reward. At his level i would expect something more cerebral than reward. What happens to service, community engagement and taking his state to the next level by contributing to making the future?

Re: I Deserve Ministerial Nomination, Says Lai Mohammed by DanGombe1: 11:48pm On Oct 10, 2015
Great arguments so far.

But as rightly said by Gbawe, Nigerian youths need to take their destiny into their own hands. Unless we are able to look beyond our differences and act selflessly for our country Nigeria, we would always be fractured and disunited and leadership of this country will continue to evade us.

A key pointer to this is volunteering. How many Nigerian youths including me actually volunteer our time, talent and efforts to a project that will help our community?! You always see youth in other countries volunteering to build homes, roads, teaching etc to the less privileged in their society. How many of us do this?!

You start small and dream big. Look at ordinary council ship elections in your ward. Am sure most of the time, your councillors are illiterate touts who are hoisted on you by the most popular political party of the time. How many educated youth have organised themselves and presented a credible candidate to the polls?! Ordinary NANS election or departmental elections conducted in our higher institutions are plagued by violence, ethnic and religious sentiments etc. And yet we expect to be handed the leadership of the country and rule.

The Youth of Nigeria need to wake up and take our destiny into our hands. It won't be handed to us easily. We must fight and earn it for ourselves.
