FG moves to check Fulani herdsmen, farmers clashes DISTURBED by the renewed hostilities between suspected Fulani herdsmen and farmers in various communities across the country, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has appealed to both parties to sheath their swords and embrace peace to contribute to the nation’s economic growth. The agency said the appeal has become necessary as the Federal Government is doing everything possible to resolve the lingering misunderstanding between the warring parties. In a statement, NOA’s Director-General, Mike Omeri, reacting to what he described as extreme positions being suggested by various socio-cultural groups on the clashes between the herdsmen and farmers, said a Strategic Action Plan Committee (SAPC) set up by the Federal Government will bring lasting solution to the crisis, especially if both parties heed government’s advice. According to Omeri, the committee has a holistic approach, which includes both short and long term strategies to end the lingering clashes. “With such a committee, it is only complementary that farmers, herdsmen and Nigerians, irrespective of origin or occupation, contribute to this peace production effort,” Omeri stated. While sympathising with victims, Omeri assured Nigerians that the government is studying the recommendations of the various committees with a view to streamlining them to meet the realities of the time. According to the statement, “Herdsmen and farmers need each other, and Nigeria needs them both. It is therefore a collective responsibility for all of us to advocate peace amongst the two sets of agriculturalists.” The NOA boss, who specifically called on community leaders and heads of associations to appeal to farmers and herdsmen to embrace peace, recalled the contributions of farmers and herdsmen to the country’s economic growth, saying “such contribution is needed now, more than ever before, with the dwindling global oil price. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/10/fg-moves-to-check-fulani-herdsmen-farmers-clashes/ |

Bubu, Welldone, thanks for not letting us down.. Wakaing with malu is not a southern tradition..&since the constitution does not allow anyone to stop anyone & livestocks from moving around within the country at will, we can only appeal.. We will appreciate that they be encouraged to limit their wahala & destruction to the north excluding Plateau, Kogi & Benue. They too don't need or deserve the wanton destruction.., goats & poultry will provide manure for the farmers. Thanks & enjoy your time in office... 4 Likes |

Police nab Fulani herdsman in connection with kidnapping in Delta October 10, 2015 The Police Command in Delta State has arrested a Fulani herdsman in connection with the kidnapping of a middle-aged man in Ibusa community. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement Friday in Asaba disclosed that the suspect was arrested in the bush by a combined team of the police and the local vigilante. She said: “On October 8, 2015, one Hon. Patricia Asiana of Okponta quarters, Ibusa reported at the Police Station that her brother, Celestine Elege has been kidnapped. “According to the report, the victim was kidnapped in his farm at Umuidi area of Ibusa by suspected Fulani herdsmen. “On receipt of the report, Police Anti-Robbery patrol team was drafted to the scene and with the help of Ibusa vigilante members, the team combed the surrounding bush and arrested one Ibrahim Shaidu Mohammed, suspected to be one of the kidnappers,” Kalu said. The police spokesperson said that the police had commenced discreet investigation into the matter. She added that the police had intensified efforts to rescue the victim and arrest other fleeing members of the gang. http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/10/police-nab-fulani-herdsman-in-connection-with-kidnapping-in-delta/ Forget the whole "kidnapping" does not fit their criminal profile, Fulani herdsmen have changed from murdering touts to demonic kidnappers. 12 Likes |

Whatever, but i hope the options being considered does not include establishing grazing routes in this country. This would be a problem on its own in future. |

About time. The cattle rearers don't have to stray, its discomforting in this time and age that this age-old practice still persists. There are better ways of managing this exercise, they don't have to go round farmlands destroying everything in their way. Just put them in ranches, they don't have to leave there except for slaughter/market. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Where is that loudmouthed igbo dunce, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, the chairman of NHRC ? That slowpoke called FFK a tribalist and said that the Fulani herdsmen can rear their cattles anywhere in Nigeria. Fulani herdsmen are tse-tse flies and Igbos are leeches. Both tribes need to be fumigated and done are away with so that Nigeria can become a better place 4 Likes |

Land should be provided for grazing.Any herdsman caught outside the grazing zone should forfeit his flock to the government. |

I hope they reach a good conclusion.... Such as telling the herdsmen that freedom of movement excludes entering someone's farm with cows to destroy ones hard labour... 4 Likes |

23 And the wandering shepherds and tribesmen of King Bubu Son of Hari the cattle rearer, who had forge unholy alliance with She-cow and his band of brigands, invaded the fields of a retired Chief Scribe – Fala, the son of Aye in the land of Yoruga, who had allied with King Bubu Son of Hari the cattle rearer. Thereupon, these wandering shepherds laid waste to his fields, and destroy his crops. They took Fala, the son of Aye captive for several days and would not let home go until several bags of cowries in ransom had been paid. And they warned him sternly not to speak about them least they will come again for him! Acts of King Bubu https://www.nairaland.com/2647257/acts-king-bubu-son-hari I hope they don't come back to trouble the old man again. 11 Likes |

Well......good news. But let's be honest....sorting out this issue is going to require 1.Holding back the Sahara...which means planting trees in large numbers up in the Far North....which means reviving or kickstarting the green belt project again. 2.Education. We must spend millions on education...especially agricultural educaiton and extension...so that farmers can learn new, land saving techniques. Like crop rotation, and planting more legumes. And we can build agro allied industries instead of just exporting groundnuts. 3.Short term....grazing reserves for cattle. Long term....ranches, and an end to roaming around with the cows. 4.Population control. I am not advocating we copy China's one child policy.....just that we educate people on smaller families. And at the same time improve welfare. 5.Gun control. We do not control the weapons used in this country. Any joker can acquire an arsenal of Kalashnikovs, and no one would know until it is too late. 6.Better long term planning. 1 Like |

Useless topic. There's nothing like "Clashes". Fulani herdsmen are terrorists. How can FG call it clashes between fulanis and farmers. All those innocent villagers that have been attacked in the houses everyday and butchered both young and old by the Fulani terrorists, are they "farmers" . BTW, this government must put a stop to these barbaric killers and not practice their usual prejudice. They must start tackling it from the north central states like Plateau and Benue. Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South Local government councils have been heavily affected by these paid demons. 6 Likes |
