Where is that loudmouthed igbo dunce, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, the chairman of NHRC ? That slowpoke called FFK a tribalist and said that the Fulani herdsmen can rear their cattles anywhere in Nigeria.

Fulani herdsmen are tse-tse flies and Igbos are leeches. Both tribes need to be fumigated and done are away with so that Nigeria can become a better place
Nothing concern Igbo for this na. This problem affects Yoruba Igbo NC zone alike. It is a national problem and it is time a holistic solution which involves the Government and the affected communities is found and implemented.

Solution:

In civilized countries, the idea of nomads ceased to exist during the agricultural revolution. Before we can talk about solutions, we have to answers several questions. Why are Fulani herdsmen still archaic? Why do they still need to bring their cows to the South to chew our crops?
Countries like America implemented a cleaner system of transporting fresh meat across the nation. Nigeria can imitate this system or invent a better one. South Nigeria worries about meat supplies if the herdsmen are restricted to the North and the North worries about meeting this demand if they can't travel to the South. Why can't the North create a system of meat supplies in the North and have the The Southern states find methods of getting meat to the South. i.e stores like HEB, Walmart, Target etc find ways to get fresh meat supplies to their stores all over the country.

Result: Fulani herdsmen stays in the North.

But then.....everything is connected to a good electricity supply. No nation can function without stable electricity. Nigeria's not functioning, she's just surviving.

In case you don't know..

There are southern cattle rearers.. Their cattle are usually in a fenced compound..

Southerners also produce meat, cow skin e.t.c. There is already meat in the south.

State govt needs to ban northern meat, products e.t.c and boost the southern cattle rearers sales..

Stop talking as if its only the north that sells meat..

Whatever, but i hope the options being considered does not include establishing grazing routes in this country. This would be a problem on its own in future.

The problem lies in the ability of these Fulani herdsmen to wield AK-47 weapons openly, without a valid license to carry such assualt weapons while if their Southern counterparts farmers dare own a small Pistol, they would be promptly arrested.

If you own a gun and l own a gun, wont you think twice before starting a gun-fight with me?
First, we must level the playing field... after then, we can talk about "equity" between the parties.
No one has the right to destroy another man's livelihood, just to foster his own.

The world has gone past the age of roaming, open "Pastoralisation"

Why cant the Fulani's be encouraged to adopt the ranching system, why is it that we like being at the backwaters in all facet of life. The ranching system is truly the way to go, but with our narrow silly way of doing things they might just resist doing it claiming it is not their traditional way of of life. Come to think of it, we are in no way close to Argentina in beef production yet you don't see herdsmen on their roads or cattle's rummaging on peoples farmlands. The world over, ranching is the norm, their forefathers were once nomads yet they have shifted far far away from those practices and adopted modern and better ways of rearing cattle. The Fulani man is in no way interested in such changes.
You've said it all. If they reject modernity with claims on their tradition, no problem. They should remain in their tradition but be prepared to practice in their traditional territory. Freedom of movement does not imply anyone that anyone should trample on the rights of his host community in the country. Their ways are simply at variant with our modern view as regards farming. I run a mechanized farm that their activities have adversely affected besides having a close shave encounter with them.

We eagerly await what this 'strategic' peace deal is all about. However, any solution that allows Fulanis carry AK 47 and dagger while other citizens seen with camp knife become criminals is no solution at all. Like he has said, it calls for a holistic approach but until then sha, we can only wait and be positive.

23 And the wandering shepherds and tribesmen of King Bubu Son of Hari the cattle rearer, who had forge unholy alliance with She-cow and his band of brigands, invaded the fields of a retired Chief Scribe – Fala, the son of Aye in the land of Yoruga, who had allied with King Bubu Son of Hari the cattle rearer. Thereupon, these wandering shepherds laid waste to his fields, and destroy his crops. They took Fala, the son of Aye captive for several days and would not let home go until several bags of cowries in ransom had been paid. And they warned him sternly not to speak about them least they will come again for him!

The solution is simple! Get the business owners; that is, the real owners of the cattle whose care had been contracted out to these blood sucking herds men to build ranches. This cannot continue. Completely unacceptable.

You adopted your slave masters roads, it worked for you.

You adopted their democracy, it worked for you.

Their technology, dressing, language, etc, that all worked for you.

Maybe if you guys in the North adopts their education/literacy rate, Nigeria won't be as backwards as it is now.

No developed society still practices nomadry/murder........ So tell us another story, this one does not touch.

South Nigerians can't feed all its citizens, as supported by your earlier statement that our government still needs to boost southern cattle sales. While the North plies a trade in meat business, the South are more concerned with industrialization, blue/white collar jobs, tech etc.

Until our local gov start supporting Southern agriculture....... then.....

What's the population of the South?

What's the population of farmers/ land area of farmland in Nigeria?

The South cannot and will never be able to feed itself....... even nations like the USA imports food.

Having farmland does not necessarily mean that these farmers have the resources to distribute their products from one region tot he other (SW vis SS, and vise versa). Imagine trying to distribute time-sensitive products like milk, eggs, meat etc over long distance without a 1) good road system 2) electricity etc

The south has been feeding itself long before Nigeria existed..

Eggs are not "time sensitive"... Milk, meat e.t.c are perishable goods..

Nigeria has been importing to feed itself ever since our population started growing beyond our food availability.

Eggs and diary products are time sensitive. With constant electricity, those items can last (in your fridge) for more than a month.

My lactose milk has a best-by date of 2 months after purchase.

Your diversionary tool won't work, ogbeni.

1. You tried to divert my attention to your slavemasters, claiming that western solution won't work. Yet western solutions ( i.e tech) works just well for you.

2. You tried to direct my attention to some baggage you're carrying. After all, that's not the concern of this thread.

After all this, you've yielded no solution nor rebuttal on offered solutions. Yet you claimed that SW/Nigeria just has to deal with Fulani herdsmen menace (in another thread).

Like I said before, try that buckshit with someone else.

Stay focused if you are able to do so

The problems of the Herdsmen is an intrinsically African problem without any western solution. What part of this is difficult for you to understand?

Truth is, you have no reasonable solution and are stubbornly willing to opt for a solution which will infringe upon the constitutional rights of fellow Nigerians. Even Awolowo would disown your suggestion.

The solution is unreasonable to you because it means no more South Nigeria for you.

You're left and stuck with boko haram and sharia.

Why won't it be unreasonable?

I think restricting Fulanis to their local cave is the best option Nigeria has to dealing with their menace.

DISTURBED by the renewed hostilities between suspected Fulani herdsmen and farmers in various communities across the country, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has appealed to both parties to sheath their swords and embrace peace to contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

The agency said the appeal has become necessary as the Federal Government is doing everything possible to resolve the lingering misunderstanding between the warring parties.

In a statement, NOA’s Director-General, Mike Omeri, reacting to what he described as extreme positions being suggested by various socio-cultural groups on the clashes between the herdsmen and farmers, said a Strategic Action Plan Committee (SAPC) set up by the Federal Government will bring lasting solution to the crisis, especially if both parties heed government’s advice.

According to Omeri, the committee has a holistic approach, which includes both short and long term strategies to end the lingering clashes. “With such a committee, it is only complementary that farmers, herdsmen and Nigerians, irrespective of origin or occupation, contribute to this peace production effort,” Omeri stated.

While sympathising with victims, Omeri assured Nigerians that the government is studying the recommendations of the various committees with a view to streamlining them to meet the realities of the time.

According to the statement, “Herdsmen and farmers need each other, and Nigeria needs them both. It is therefore a collective responsibility for all of us to advocate peace amongst the two sets of agriculturalists.”

The NOA boss, who specifically called on community leaders and heads of associations to appeal to farmers and herdsmen to embrace peace, recalled the contributions of farmers and herdsmen to the country’s economic growth, saying “such contribution is needed now, more than ever before, with the dwindling global oil price.
