AF Nigeria International Friendlies Nigeria
Oliseh has 'clear direction' hails NFF boss

Eagles coach Oliseh (right) with assistant Loscuito
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has praised Super Eagles Sunday Oliseh after the team bounced back to dump bitter rivals Cameroon 3-0 in a friendly in Belgium.
Oliseh and the team came under fire back in Nigeria after they lost their first friendly in Belgium to DR Congo.
The coach also would not have endeared himself to Nigerians after his major falling out with Vincent Enyeama.
But on Sunday night, they raised their game to soar above the Indomitable Lions in fine style.
"I must say that I am very impressed with the performance of the Eagles. It was a good game,” Pinnick told AfricanFootball.com
"I am sure Nigerians were impressed with what they saw. But we have not got there, there are still some areas that we need to touch but we should all keep supporting the team because the coach seems to have a clear direction of where he is going to.
"He is still building a team. And he knows who to add to the team because we do not have a say on who he invites to the team."
Pinnick said Efe Ambrose’s opening goal – a header off a Mikel free kick – was straight from the training ground.
“All the goals no one was a fluke. Fortunately all the training sessions that I watched, like the first goal Efe Ambrose got, I saw them do that over and over again," he said.
Oliseh will now switch attention to the CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso on Sunday in Port Harcourt, where the home-based Eagles have been training since last week.

No Nigerian nominated for African player of the Year (Based in Africa) award

By Taiwo Adelu
No Nigerian player was good enough to make the 24-man list of nominees released Sunday by Confederation of African Football, CAF, for the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) award category.
The list is an indictment on the standard of Nigerian local league, as the award category is to celebrate players plying their trades on the continent.
While Nigeria is not having a single player on the list, a North African country, Algeria can boast of four nominees.
A breakdown of the list shows that countries such as South Africa, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and even Sudan have two nominees each for the award.
Interestingly, the likes of Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Tanzania, Congo, DR Congo, Mali and Burkina Faso parade one player each in the list.
The list expected to be pruned down to three out of which the winner will be decided at a yet to be announced venue of CAF award nite, which is sponsored by Nigerian telecommunications company, Globacom.
The full list:

NFF Urges Nigerians To Be Patient With Oliseh

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday urged Nigerians to exercise patience with Sunday Oliseh, the Super Eagles Head Coach, in his quest to build a formidable team.
The NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that few matches were not enough to assess Oliseh’s capability.
Sanusi said the Super Eagles 3-0 defeat of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in an international friendly on Sunday, showed that the team learnt some lessons from its earlier 0-2 loss to DR Congo.
“I have said this at different fora, that if you are judging a team, there is a need for people to be patient with the manager because Rome was not built in a day.
“The coach said he wants to build a football culture; he has just played one or two matches and I do not think that these two matches are enough to judge the coach.
“We have to give him time; we saw the first match and we saw the second match.
“There is a significant improvement in the second match and it is an indication that a lot of good things are going to happen in Nigerian football.’’
He added that the Football House was not in a hurry to demand results from Oliseh since the team was moving from bad to good.
“when you play a good match and then deteriorate, that is when you can express worry.
“But if you play a bad match and you are improving day-by-day, it is an indication that something positive is coming,” Sanusi said.
NAN reports that the NFF arranged the DR Congo and Cameroon friendlies to help Oliseh in the process of rebuilding the Super Eagles. (NAN)

The Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick has said that he was impressed with the Super Eagles’ performance against Cameroon in Belgium on Sunday.
The Sunday Oliseh-led team spanked the Indomitable Lions 3-0, a revival of their disappointing outing Thursday.

Efe Ambrose gave Nigeria the first goal through a set piece from Mikel Obi, while Moses Simon drove in from the flank to make it two for the three time AFCON champions.

“I must say that I am very impressed with the performance of the Eagles. It was a good game,” Pinnick said after the match in Belgium.

Victory over Cameroon saved Oliseh – Senator

BY JUDE OPARA, Abuja
As Nigerian soccer analysts continue to comment on the double header international friendlies against Congo last Thursday and Cameroon on Sunday in Belgium, a former member of the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Senator Obinna Ogba says the 3-0 win over Cameroon has saved Super Eagles Chief Coach, Sunday Oliseh from critics and Nigerian football fans.
Ogba who is also the proprietor of Ebonyi Angels told journalists in Abuja that Super Eagles 2-0 defeat by Congo in the first match was due largely to the disagreement between Oliseh and former team captain, Vincent Enyeama. He observed that the fracas affected the Super Eagles.

WINNERS. . . Super Eagles squad before the friendly match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun in Belgium.
He therefore advised Oliseh and the NFF not to destroy what was on ground before his arrival.
According to him, the outcome of the two friendlies has shown that Enyeama is still relevant in the senior national team.
“We appreciate that Oliseh has said he is building a new team but he should also remember that he must not destroy what he met on ground.
Both the coach and the NFF must remember that we still need Enyeama, there are no two ways about it. Afterall, most of his mates are still playing.
“Enyeama is very much relevant in the national team, and I want to state that I don’t support Oliseh for that decision.
Anything that should be done to bring back the first choice goalkeeper must be done because we cannot afford to miss out of the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).”
However, the lawmaker expressed his confidence that given the zeal with which the Super Eagles approached the game against arch rivals, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon which resulted in an emphatic 3-0 victory, that the next AFCON qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt will be a victory for Nigeria.

Carl Ikeme Has to Wait For His Time - Wolves boss
Biyi Akangbe

Carl Ikeme who might be maintaining his place as Nigeria's No.1, will have to fight to regain his place at Wolves. That's according to Wolves coach Kenny Jackett.
Jackett who thinks highly of the Nigerian, also insisted that Ikeme will not be leaving the Club anytime soon.
"Carl is a very good goalkeeper but at the moment we are looking to build and add if we can. We are not looking to decrease the club.
“From us it is a case of head down, work for the club, work for Wolves and do our best to make sure the club is successful," Jackett said.
Does he have to wait for his opportunity?
“Yes – and do well enough in training to keep the pressure on the other player, that is what football is all about.
“Look at our midfield situation where suddenly Conor Coady gets a three-game suspension and opens the way for another partnership.
“That can happen at any time and you have to be ready and make sure when the opportunity comes, you are the one who gets selected and takes it,” Jackett added.
29-year-old Ikeme lost his place in the Wolves team to Emiliano Martinez, with the Arsenal loanee having started the last five league games.

Nigeria: Can Oliseh Trust Mikel for the Super Eagles?

Mikel Obi.
By Jide Alaka
After the brouhaha caused by Vincent Enyeama's sudden retirement from the Super Eagles and the naming of Ahmed Musa as the substantive captain of the national team, attention shifted to the friendly encounter against Congo, which the team subsequently lost 2-0.
In the aftermath of that game, in an interview, Sunday Oliseh said he was surprised at Mikel Obi's excellent input in the match.
"I was very impressed with Jon Obi Mikel. It has been a long time that I have seen him play like this," Oliseh told Toyin Ibitoye.
"He carried the team, he played, he moved, he was mobile. And he was doing something I asked him to do that I like very much.
"He was taking charge and telling people what to do. When you have a player playing in Chelsea like Jon Obi Mikel in your team, he should lead - he shouldn't be led.
"He did that very well today [Thursday] and I am praying he continues like this because this is the Mikel we need," Oliseh added.
A very good prayer indeed because we saw another Mikel in that match, where he also refused the captain's armband when Musa was taken off. Ogenyi Onazi took on the band and when he was taken off, Elderson Echiejile assumed the band.
Watch the interview here:
A lot of people have asked why Oliseh "overlooked" the likes of Mikel, Echiejile, Onazi and other senior members of the team and handed the captain's band to 22-year-old Musa.
Journalist, Emeka Enyadike answered thus on Twitter: "Mikel chooses the games he plays... Musa deserves to be Captain. He doesn't choose games or come up with excuses". Japheth Omojuwa also said on Twitter: "Mikel hasn't been as loyal to be team as Musa has been over the years."
But even though it has also been agreed that Oliseh, as manager of the team has the prerogative to choose who captains his team, we now have to ask - will Mikel continue to perform for this team?
Has he decided to unshackle himself from the mediocrity that has dogged both his club and national careers?
Pat Nevin, who writes a column for chelseafc.com said this of Mikel after a recent League Cup match against Walsall. "There is a decent argument that it was Mikel's most complete performance in a Chelsea shirt.
"It had everything: from winning every single tackle and showing great energy breaking up play, to playing an array of defence-splitting passes that recalled anyone from Andrea Pirlo to Glenn Hoddle!"
Now, this is high praise, and this reflects what Oliseh said of his performance against Congo but will the FIFA U-20 Silver Ball winner finally realise his huge potential for country and club? Oliseh will definitely be hoping for this Mikel when the Nations Cup qualifiers continues in March 2016 against Egypt.

Nigeria vs Cameroun: 5 Things We Learnt
Imhons Erons

In the second friendly game scheduled for the international break, the Super Eagles outwitted and tamed the Indomitable Lions in Belgium, with the scoreline ending 3-0 in favour of the Nigerians.
The first game against Congo ended in a disappointing 0-2 loss after some camp squabble. But Sunday Oliseh's boys effectively put that result behind them by smashing three goals past their opponents, thereby throwing up these five talking points.
1. Can we play Cameroun every week but the AFCON final?
Last night's encounter was the 20th time the two West African nations have met with Nigeria showing her domination with 8 wins as against Cameroun's 4.
Amazingly though, of the Indomitable Lions' 4 wins, three of them have been in the final of the AFCON. It appears that the Lions always find the extra motivation when a major cup is within grasp.
For most part of the game, they were lame, lamentable and ended the game with ten men.
2. Mikel Obi is Sunday Oliseh key man
Against Congo Mikel was the sole shining light in a disappointing team performance that ended in defeat. Whatever Oliseh did or said to the Chelsea midfielder is working wonders as he once again produced another eye-catching display that included the assist that led to Efe Ambrose goal.
3. What's Ambrose smoking in Celtic?
Talking of Efe, on his day, he is a disciplined, solid defender who can play both as a fullback and centerback. On his day.
On off days which can be quite often, he can be very unpredictable, even bordering on unreliable.
The last game Ambrose played for Celtic in the Champions League, he was a disaster, personally responsible for two of the goals his team conceded in a home loss.
Efe the good and the terrible showed up in yesterday's match. Moments after almost scoring an own goal, the defender popped up in the opponent's box, rose higher than others and headed home the game's opener.
4. Ikeme is looking solid
All eyes are on the Wolves goaltender after stepping into Enyeama's giant shoes.
But Carl has handled the pressure pretty well so far.
He was again impressive against Cameroun making a few fine saves and grabbing the chance he's been given with both hands.
5. Emenike shouldn't be starting games
Emenike is much loved by his compatriots for his robust and energetic displays. However, strikers are born to do just one thing: score goals.
The lanky attacker has not scored for the Super Eagles since October 2013. For 73 minutes against Cameroun he was not short of enterprise just lacking with his finishing touches. His replacement, Ighalo spent only 15 minutes on the field of play before grabbing a goal.
Oliseh should start considering extending invitations to strikers like Obafemi Martins who actually still know how to find the back of the net.
For now, it's congratulations to Oliseh and his boys.

Eagles: Ikeme not Enyeama’s replacement – Erico

BY MONICA IHEAKAM
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper’s trainer, Joe Erico, has warned that the team can not afford to dispense with the services of Vincent Enyeama simply because of the arrival of Carl Ikeme.
Ikeme had in the last couple of matches manned the post for Eagles, putting up a good showing.
In spite of Ikeme’s good showing so far, especially in the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, Erico told Daily Sunsports exclusively that the Wolverhampton keeper can not pass as a replacement for Enyeama.
“As far as am concerned, Carl Ikeme has so far shown prospects because he has started well but he cannot replace Enyeama yet,” Erico stated.
The coach whose admirers call Jogo Bonito because of his Brazilian coaching philosophy said Ikeme would need time and more exposure to fit into Enyeama’s shoes.
“Ikeme still has a long way to go before he can fit into the shoes of Vincent Eneyama.
“If goalkeeping is a stage, Enyeama has danced so well and has shown the world what he is capable of doing. It is now left for Ikeme to ensure that he leaves his own footprints in the sand of times. But that cant happen overnight. We have a million and one goalkeepers Oliseh can pick from but they must be given the exposure needed to build their confidence.”
Erico, however, gave a pat on the back to Oliseh, declaring that he had not done badly since taking over the team.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria will beat Egypt to secure the AFCON 2017 Nations Cup ticket.
“Beating Egypt is not a mission impossible. We have been able to do that in the past and we can do it again once we get our acts right before the two legged tie early next year.”

Our match against Burkinafaso on Sunday (this Sunday) is CHAN (Championship of African Nations, a tournament for National Teams based in their home Countries) Qualifiers.
[b]
2016 CHAN qualifiers begin this weekend

The final 16-team field for the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda will be decided over the next two weekends with 29 matches across the continent.
In the Northern Zone, the final round of group stage matches will be held from October 19-25, with the trio of Tunisia, Morocco and Libya (the defending CHAN champions) battling for two places at the finals.
As it stands, Morocco are top of the pile with four points, Libya have three and Tunisia just one, but the Carthage Eagles will have the advantage of two home games to finish off the qualifiers.
In Zone West A, Mali and Mauritania as well as Senegal and Guinea will battle for two spots up for grabs, while West B features arguably the pick of the ties as Ghana and the Ivory Coast do battle. Their region also features Nigeria v Burkina Faso in a repeat of the 2013 AFCON final and Niger tackling Togo.
The Central Zone sees DR Congo battle Central African Republic, Cameroon go head-to-head with Congo Brazzaville and Chad take on 2017 AFCON hosts Gabon.
In the Central-East Zone, spots are at a premium with Rwanda already qualified as hosts. Uganda will tackle Sudan, while Burundi face a challenge in trying to overcome Ethiopia.

Onazi To Get More Lazio Game Time After Midfield Injuries

Super Eagles vice-captain, Ogenyi Onazi, could enjoy a run of games for Lazio following injuries to key players in the team's midfield department.
According to sportsfan.com.au, Lucas Biglia and Marco Parolo are to undergo medical tests to determine the consequences of injuries picked up while on international duties.
Biglia left the Argentina camp and arrived in Italy on Monday with a pulled muscle, which he suffered as he played in a 2-0 home defeat to Ecuador on Thursday in a World Cup 2018 qualifier.
Parolo hurt himself during Italy's 3-1 win at Azerbaijan on Saturday as the Azzurri secured a berth at Euro 2016. Tests on Monday showed a tear in a muscle of his left thigh, but Lazio did not specify an expected recovery time and will carry out further exams.
Since the start of the new season, Onazi's only Serie A appearance was in Lazio's 5-0 loss to Napoli, although he has played and scored in the Europa League.
He featured for the Super Eagles in their international friendly games against DR Congo and Cameroon in Belgium.

Martins On Verge Of Super Eagles Return

By Johnny Edward:
Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins is on course to be recalled to the Super Eagles for next month’s 2018 preliminary World Cup qualifier against Djibouti or Swaziland two years after he last featured for the national team, Comple tesportsnigeria.com has reliably scooped.
Martins, who has been in blistering form for his Major League Soccer side, is being seen as a catalyst that could offer stiff competition to Odion Ighalo and Emmanuel Emenike, who are both expected to be included in coach Sunday Oliseh’s squad for the November tie, a top source revealed.
According to the source, the Eagles attack has not impressed the head coach despite scoring five goals in four games.
And despite preferring Ighalo to Emenike, Oliseh needs a good option with wealth of national team experience to rival the Watford star who has scored five goals in eight EPL games for the Hornets, the source says.
“Obviously, Martins is an option we are considering in attack and he could make a return to the team but the coach has the final say on that,” the highly-placed source told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.
“Emenike has not showed the handlers he could be relied on in the games he has played.”
“The coach wants his forwards to be aggressive and press high up but that has not been the case.”
The former Inter Milan star has scored 14 MLS goals in 19 appearances for Sounders who sit fifth on the Western Conference log.
Martin reportedly called it quits with the Super Eagles last year but the report has since been denied by his representatives who insist the former Levante star was quoted out of context.

AF Nigeria International Friendlies Nigeria
Mbia says Cameroon improving despite Nigeria spanking

Cameroon skipper Stephane Mbia
Captain Stephane Mbia has said the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are improving despite a 3-0 loss to Nigeria on Sunday in a friendly in Brussels, Belgium.
Mbia, who was sent off in the second minute of the second half after a second booking, told AfricanFootball.com that despite the loss the team achieved the purpose for which the game was played.
"It was a very good game for us, we played a lot more as a team with good prospects,” he told AfricanFootball.com
“The good thing about the match is the success of the team not in terms of the result, we are improving day by day as a team."
When asked about his expulsion from the game on Sunday night, the Trabzonspor midfielder simply told AfricanFootball.com: "The referees are human and sometimes they may be wrong but I accept his decision.
“Like I said, we have a lot of positives to take from the game and I believe we will get better."

Seized kits: NFF admits Nike made shipment mistake

By: EVEREST ONYEWUCHI
The controversy over the alleged seizure of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) kits consignment by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) was yesterday resolved, with the NFF admitting that its kits sponsor, Nike, made mistake by shipping the goods through Apapa Port.
Media reports had it last week that the NCS, Apapa Area 1 Command, allegedly seized the national teams’ kits.
But the NCS yesterday said the NFF never declared any consignment at the port until October 13 when its delegation visited the command.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the NFF delegation that visited the Customs comprised Mr. Buba Danjuma, an official of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr. Tajudeen Tiamiyu, Head of Store of the NFF and Dr. Christian Emeruwa, the Senior Assistant to the NFF General Secretary.
Emeruwa told the Command’s Controller, Mr. Eporwei Edike, that the NFF was not aware that the consignment arrived at the Apapa port because it had never received consignments through sea shipment.
He said it was only after it confirmed from the management of Nike that it knew the cargo was sent to Apapa.
Emeruwa, however, said the NFF did not know how to go about processing the clearance of the goods, adding that as at the time of the meeting, the Glass House did not have an agent to help with the clearance of the consignment.
Edike said that since the position had been clarified that customs did not seize NFF’s football teams’ kits consignment, the command would assist to fast-track the release of the goods.
“We will assist the NFF with the conditional release so that the teams can have their kits quickly. But that will require the NFF to immediately raise a form `M’ and submit it with an evidence of the Bill of Lading from the shipping company.
“With this, a conditional release will be granted after payment at the bank pending when they come and perfect the process,” the customs commander said.
He explained that the customs procedure for clearing cargo is on the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) which required processing before arrival of the cargo and not after its arrival

Nigeria: Enyeama - Another Look At Oliseh's Managerial Skills

By Jude Opara
Abuja — Certainly the dust raised by the sudden retirement of Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama from Nigerian senior national team will linger for a while.
Already many commentators have been discussing the issue which took place in far away Belgium during the double header international friendlies against Congo and Cameroon.
There were conflicting accounts of what led to the altercation but before going into their merits and demerits, it is instructive to state that the whole saga was avoidable as it is regrettable.
One account is that Oliseh got angry with Enyeama for reporting to camp on Tuesday instead of the Monday deadline while another said it was because of the captainship which was taken away from the goalkeeper and handed over to CSKA Moscow striker, Ahmed Musa that sparked off the saga.
However it must be stated that it takes an extra ability to manage human beings especially young footballers who are rich and also exposed.
What has happened may have forced some analysts to begin to take a second look at the managerial skills of Coach Sunday Oliseh. This is because a coach is supposed to know when to convey certain messages to his players and when not to.
Looking at the circumstances that led to Enyeama's late arrival to camp, one would have expected Oliseh to have shown maturity by respecting the fact that the former Enyimba International of Aba goalkeeper just buried his mother the previous Saturday.
In my opinion, I believe that for Enyeama to have arrived Belgium on Tuesday demonstrates enough patriotism because it means that after the usual outing service on Sunday, he must have left Uyo on Monday to board a flight to Belgium.
Secondly, we must not forget that as Africans we pay enough respect to the dead. I am not interested whether or not Oliseh has the right to appoint his captain but doing that immediately after Enyeama buried his mother was ill-timed; which means he ought to have acted on the side of caution.
Again even if he had wanted to change his captain, Oliseh should have informed Enyeama before hand of his intention of changing him as the team captain because respect they say begets respect.
In as much as we all agree that Enyeama has the record of having issues with past Super Eagles coaches like Samson Siasia and Stephen Keshi, the manner Oliseh handled the issue is now earning him some sympathy.
Again considering the precarious situation of the Super Eagles in the qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Oliseh should be careful on how he courts trouble for himself and the national team.
A lot of commentators have queried the wisdom behind handing the captainship of the team to Ahmed Musa instead of Chelsea of England midfielder, Mikel Obi who used to be Vincent Enyeama's assistant. That action inadvertently suggests that the likes of Mikel and other senior players are free to dump the team if they can't subject themselves to Musa's leadership.
I don't want to believe that Oliseh settled for Musa because he does not want any player who is outspoken like Obi. Well there is an adage in my village which says that a head-hunter is never comfortable when another person goes behind him with a machete.
We still remember how Oliseh gave the authorities sleepless nights during his playing days, so it is a bit confusing why he now wants somebody who is very gentle as against somebody as outspoken as himself.
His bungling of the Enyeama saga must have put the NFF on the edge hence the speed at which the federation waded into the matter which resulted in the meeting where Enyeama said for him to rescind his decision to retire, he must have to talk to his wife and family.
Of course the NFF in this case has its hands tied because having just engaged Oliseh, they must be seen to be giving him all the support he requires. Therefore, they had no other option than to seem to have sided the coach on his decision.
But beyond the fact that Enyeama has been talking of his possible retirement from the national team, I believe that what the goalkeeper was hinting is that Nigeria should begin to groom other young goalkeepers that can take over from him, to me that does not mean that he must be so discarded at the slightest excuse.

Nigeria: Enyeama - Another Look At Oliseh's Managerial Skills

If the coach knew he could as well do without Enyeama, then there was no need inviting him in the first place. In my opinion the rebuilding of the national team should not necessarily begin with the nomination of a new team captain especially where the so called old players are still very relevant.
Finally, since nothing lasts forever and the fact that once confidence is compromised, it will be difficult to build it again. What I will suggest therefore is that Enyeama should go ahead and retire from the national team because if he returns, any day he has a bad day and the team loses a game, many people will say he wanted to sabotage the coach.
Therefore, it is my submission and prayer that anything that will jeopardise the quest of the country to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon must be avoided because Nigerians will not entertain any excuse if the unexpected happens.

Nigeria: APFON Thumbs Up Code of Conduct for Eagles

By Mansur Abubakar
President of Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (APFON), Dahiru Sadi says his organisation has fully endorsed the code of conduct for players and officials of the various national football teams of the country, which according to the Glass House is about to enforce any moment from now.
In a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, the former Stuttgart player added that the issue given its importance on the scale will be on the front burner when the association meet next month.
"It is very necessary (code of conduct) even in dance clubs there are rules and regulations talk less of issues of national importance. All the players are also aware of its importance because at their various clubs they must have signed in agreement to stated rules so our body (APFON) totally endorses and commends the NFF even though it's a document that should have been in existed long ago" Sadi told Daily Trust.

Nigeria: Enyeama's Return Good for Eagles, Says Ike Shorunmu

By Alex Monye
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, has described the return of the team's immediate past captain, Vincent Enyeama, to the squad as a boost to the country's bid to qualify for the Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup.
raising the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for wading into the rift between Coach Sunday Oliseh and Enyeama, Shorunmu noted that the Eagles needed to be committed and united to succeed in their quest to excel in future engagements, adding that if the Eagles coach picked the right players Nigeria would qualify for the 2017 Nations Cup.
"I am delighted the NFF has been able to settle the rift between Enyeama and Oliseh. Unity is needed in the Eagles to achieve success. Enyeama retired from the national team because of the rift between him and coach Oliseh.
"Assuming he was prepared to retire this soon, he would not have joined the team in Belgium. I don't know what transpired between him and the coach; but I believe the NFF has done a good job by settling the matter. Enyeama is still needed in the Eagles, " he said.
Enyeama, who was removed as captain of the team, stormed out of the Eagles' camp on last Tuesday following a disagreement he had with Coach Oliseh. He subsequently announced his retirement from the national team.
However, he returned to the team following the intervention of the NFF top brass, who felt that a player that served Nigerian for 13 years with 101 caps deserved a better exit from the team.
Enyeama has since pledged to continue to play for Nigeria as long as the country needs him.

Nigeria No.1 Ikeme told to fight for first-team shirt

[iimg]http://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/10/Samm_19_August_2.jpg[/img]
Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme - He is no longer No 1 at Wolves.
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has told new Nigeria No 1 goalkeeper Carl Ikeme to fight for his place in the first team as he has no plans to sell the goalkeeper.
The 29-year-old has recently lost his place in the Wolves' side to Arsenal Loanee Emiliano Martinez.
With Ikeme eager to make sure he is playing regularly in order to cement his place in Nigeria's national side, speculation had arisen suggesting the big goalkeeper could look elsewhere for regular football action in January.
Jackett said he does not want to lose Ikeme and wants him to remain on his toes, claiming he could yet come back into the team should he impress in training.
"Carl is a very good goalkeeper but at the moment we are looking to build and add if we can. We are not looking to decrease the club," Jackett told the Express & Star.
"From us it is a case of head down, work for the club, work for Wolves and do our best to make sure the club is successful. Does he have to wait for his opportunity? "Yes - and do well enough in training to keep the pressure on the other player, that is what football is all about."
After a handful of caps Ikeme has been installed as Nigeria’s top-choice in goal in place of Lille shot stopper Vincent Ikeme, who has called time on his international career.
