Former Super Eagles goalkeeper’s trainer, Joe Erico, has warned that the team can not afford to dispense with the services of Vincent Enyeama simply because of the arrival of Carl Ikeme.
Ikeme had in the last couple of matches manned the post for Eagles, putting up a good showing.
In spite of Ikeme’s good showing so far, especially in the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, Erico told Daily Sunsports exclusively that the Wolverhampton keeper can not pass as a replacement for Enyeama.
“As far as am concerned, Carl Ikeme has so far shown prospects because he has started well but he cannot replace Enyeama yet,” Erico stated.
The coach whose admirers call Jogo Bonito because of his Brazilian coaching philosophy said Ikeme would need time and more exposure to fit into Enyeama’s shoes.
“Ikeme still has a long way to go before he can fit into the shoes of Vincent Eneyama.
“If goalkeeping is a stage, Enyeama has danced so well and has shown the world what he is capable of doing. It is now left for Ikeme to ensure that he leaves his own footprints in the sand of times. But that cant happen overnight. We have a million and one goalkeepers Oliseh can pick from but they must be given the exposure needed to build their confidence.”
Erico, however, gave a pat on the back to Oliseh, declaring that he had not done badly since taking over the team.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria will beat Egypt to secure the AFCON 2017 Nations Cup ticket.
“Beating Egypt is not a mission impossible. We have been able to do that in the past and we can do it again once we get our acts right before the two legged tie early next year.”

Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins is on course to be recalled to the Super Eagles for next month’s 2018 preliminary World Cup qualifier against Djibouti or Swaziland two years after he last featured for the national team, Comple tesportsnigeria.com has reliably scooped.
Martins, who has been in blistering form for his Major League Soccer side, is being seen as a catalyst that could offer stiff competition to Odion Ighalo and Emmanuel Emenike, who are both expected to be included in coach Sunday Oliseh’s squad for the November tie, a top source revealed.
According to the source, the Eagles attack has not impressed the head coach despite scoring five goals in four games.
And despite preferring Ighalo to Emenike, Oliseh needs a good option with wealth of national team experience to rival the Watford star who has scored five goals in eight EPL games for the Hornets, the source says.
“Obviously, Martins is an option we are considering in attack and he could make a return to the team but the coach has the final say on that,” the highly-placed source told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.
“Emenike has not showed the handlers he could be relied on in the games he has played.”
“The coach wants his forwards to be aggressive and press high up but that has not been the case.”
The former Inter Milan star has scored 14 MLS goals in 19 appearances for Sounders who sit fifth on the Western Conference log.
Martin reportedly called it quits with the Super Eagles last year but the report has since been denied by his representatives who insist the former Levante star was quoted out of context.

If Carl Ikeme is not V. Enyeama's replacement, then who should be? Is it Akpeyi or who? Among the keepers available. Its only Ikeme that can feel that gap. He mustn't be World Best Goalkeeper before he can replace Enyeama. With K. I showing during our friendlies, he can do better with enough playing time for both Cub and Country.

Nigeria sports fans are tipping either former Lagos Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola or ex-Senate sports committee chairman Heineken Lokpobiri to be named the country’s new sports minister.
Fashola and Lokpobiri are to undergo ministerial screening by the senate after they were nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A lawyer, Fashola is a well-known Manchester United fan and during his eight-year tenure as Lagos Governor, he got the state government to stage the final of the country’s cup competition.
Lokpobiri from Bayelsa State was the chairman of the senate committee on sports until the last general elections.
However, it is left to be seen whether sports will be run as a ministry or as a commission.

Your name has caused a lot of debate out there, where exactly are you from?
(Laughs)Yes, you are right. I have been approached by a lot of people asking me about my nationality. But the truth is I was born in Sapele, Delta State here in Nigeria.
Not only have people approached me, I have also received a lot of calls and text messages from within and outside Nigeria seeking to know if I'm a Nigerian.
Can you mention the name of the country that approached you?
The Ghanaians have tried to convince me to play for them. I got a call from someone in Ghana maybe a representative of their FA who asked me about my nationality.
He said I should ask my parents about my nationality. I just told him straight I am a Nigerian and nothing more.
I don't need to ask anybody about that because it's very clear.
Were they really desperate to have you play for their national team?
I think so because they kept pestering to inquire from my parents the truth about my nationality.
In my mind, the only country I know is Nigeria and I was not interested in all what they were saying then.
This has been a breakthrough season for you, from a virtually unknown player on the streets to a Nigeria international, how do you feel about it?
It's a wonderful feeling. Everything is just about the grace of God. You know how difficult it is to make it as a footballer in this part of the world.
It was really tough playing on the streets then, but the desire to wear the national team shirt and play professional football outside the country was a big motivation for me and my friends.
Thank God the hard work has paid off today. But I don't think i'm there yet. I want to be a regular starter in the Super Eagles and also play for the biggest clubs in the world.
What was is it like for you, your first day in the Super Eagles camp?
It was a dream come true for me. It's not something I can describe. I was happy to be in camp with the big boys from Europe. The likes of Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike and the other guys.
If you don't know them, you will think they are difficult guys to mix with, but they are all wonderful people and easy to relate with.
They played here in Nigeria before moving abroad, so they encourage us the home-based guys and make us understand that we are all one. It was a big family and I cherish that experience.
Many have described you as the new Finidi George of Nigerian football…
One thing about football is that you can't totally assess yourself. It is the supporters, fans and media who can always do an objective appraisal of us the players.
So, if that is what they think, I believe they are right because they see me play on a frequent basis.
Do you see yourself becoming a regular in the Super Eagles?
That's my dream, but it's not going to come on a platter of gold. I just have keep working hard to convince the coaches that I'm good enough to earn a starting shirt in the team.
But no matter what you do it is the coaches who have the final say on who starts or stays on the bench in every game.
You must be thinking of moving abroad anytime soon, are there offers on the table for you at the moment?
You are right. That's the dream of every footballer in this part of the world. I would love to play for a big European side one day.
It will also be great to play in the big competions like the Champions League and the Europa League.
I know it's not going to be easy, but I'm determined not get distracted by the challenges.
I want to take it one step at a time and I believe things will work out fine at the end of the day.
The English Premier League must be a big attraction for you like other African footballer…
Yes, but I don't want to reveal anything at the moment. I have a lot of good offers from clubs in Europe, but I don't want to discuss anything for now.

The Nigeria Football Federation is to open talks with Morocco, Tunisia or Algeria for a friendly ahead of their crunch two-legged AFCON qualifier against Egypt in March, NFF president Amaju Pinnick has said.

Nigeria take on Egypt in March in a double header, which could well determine the fate of the Super Eagles for Gabon 2017.

Egypt lead the AFCON qualifying group with six points from two matches, two points more than second-placed Nigeria with the overall group winners guaranteed automatic qualification to 2017 AFCON.

Pinnick said the NFF are determined to ensure that the Eagles are in the right frame of mind technically and mentally against the record seven-time African champions.

“I have asked them to begin to shop for a friendly game against Morocco, Tunisia or Algeria in the next available FIFA window,” he said.

“That tells you how important the next AFCON qualifiers are to us. We want to make sure that the Eagles are properly prepared and have an idea of how the North Africans play.

“But in any case, coach Sunday Oliseh has already started studying the tapes of the Egyptians and he is preparing the game plans.”

As for me i d love to see Ezekiel BASESEY ...dubbed the Nigerian Hazard.
Both of them are wingers and possess good crossing abilities though Ezekiel is a better dribbler .beats three markers at a go ...Aggreh has the speed and the eye for goal.
