Umunede:I like your resolve to sticking to your decision; but you will agree with me too that all of this can still happen if you'd gone back home. During my time, i went back home and i subscribed to Airtel data bundle which i've been doing while serving. I kept on applying, thanks to Nairaland, Linkedin, Facebook, Hotnigerianjobs & maybe Jobberman. Different stokes for different folks. |

hmmm..well,i just read thru all d comments..n i'd gv my own two cents.. staying bk wia u served depends on wia u served..i served in a very local place in Kogi state n left ds July.. staying bk was outta it..i saved enof n aldou i am still looking for a job, to a point i am still independent.. Being wt supportive parents can save u frm depression n unnecessary spending for nw.it doesnt mean u r lazy bcuz u r still wt ur parents. tough tyms dnt last forever..itz just for a matter of tym |

@ apprentist, I just thought of this idea, believe me, this is what I'll do. Learn a skill like barbing or laundry services. This are things you can master within 3 months. You can be visiting banks and other places of work, get their contacts and and also deliver to them @ home. They will be happy to deal with a graduate and it is also a smart way of networking with them. Don't allow that certificate to get into your head, start something immediately. |

legendgalas:You were same batch with me batchC 2013,I also saved nearly what you saved, though I had to use part of it for a professional course which sapped a lot of my savings thinking it would give me automatic employment, well, still actively searching, had to pause when I got to the final stage. Now,I am thinking of a career change, its has not been easy, sometimes I feel so alone, like I am the only one going through this stage in life,I didn't even know it would be like this,I tried, while serving I had, like 3 part time jobs, that helped me save, but it seems the real world now is not something one can control, things happen beyond our control, its called fate! |

apprentist:my room mate back then in skul did it during the 6 months ASUU strike. 3 months into the training, he gave me a clean cut. I'd be serving under batch B15 and I'm planning to do the laundry during my service year.. No time for big boy, I must survive on my own after my service year. |

I went back to my parents because I had no other choice, but I made a lot of contacts during my service years! Which I made very good use of! Though I did not get a serious job till after 2 years! but I was managing somewhere till the big break came! and lastly! I did a Sacrificial Offering to GOD to break the jinx of bad luck, before the job came! http://www.bummyla.com |

For me,I am staying back to apply for jobs o.I feel going home will make me too relaxed. You may think you are strong enough, but slowly the laziness and i-dont-care attitude will creep in.You'll be like "afterall,na free house and free food".There would be little or no push to go the extra mile to get something doing.I am a lady, and I am proud to say I havnt gone home since january, nor called to ask for a dime from anyone since november last year.Being independent is tough, but it prepares you for life ahead. My friends say I should have come as a man. While my corper frnds are busy mapping out how to hold their bf's with pregnancy to get the ring,me na how I go see work before december be my headache o.Thankfully,my rent is not expiring till beginning of january. Its my plan to stay in ekiti, while am hustling to get a job anywhere else, then I can relocate.Life is tough o,but once you take a bold decision to stand tall and fend for yourself,it would help you overcome many hurdles.I feel your parents will respect you and realize that you are trying to be someone in life, when you give them that space,if not dem go just see you finish. My friend a batch b corper that went home has been lamentingn, that the younger ones talk to him anyhow.Even the mother don dey send am to boil beans put for fire because dem see am for house.God forbid o.Before you stay home for up to 2 months, you would have started getting the "what's your plan for your life now?" talk.Anyways,I guess I have always been very independent right from my childhood. It is my prayer that God helps us all o.Because honestly, its not easy to see a child thru sch, that's why I decided to stop depending on my family after my call to bar. From the 19800 I was able to save more than a hundred and fifty thousand ,yet I took care of my self well. Its all about management and good planning.I just dey pity corpers when no get savings.Even if you must go home, please have some money to be paying your little bills till you get a job.If not,get sth small so that you won't lose your respect in your family.I wish us all goodluck. No more 19800,life has officially begun! |

Most us got discharged as a serving corps member without the payment of our last two months and bicycle allowance. NYSC said it is not their fault and the bank said the same thing. Who is at fault for not paying us. I guess the President is aware that we are not paid before some officials convert it. The money is our right not a privilege fee. The President must be hinted on this injustice. We would not suffer in vain. |

legendgalas:Yeah...in my own case I was posted to a remote village in Niger state last year,I had the chance to be coming from town to my PPA which I declined. The good part of it is that, most of my students then, were farmers...They used to Bring food crops/stuff (Yam,gari, tuwo) to corpers.,,,most of the things needed to prepare dishes can easily be gotten in the village (my PPA) at cheaper/No cost,,.The state government then was paying corper #6000 monthly...At the end of my service year,I was able to save #200,000..if not for my savings, only God knows what would have happen to me now (may be na spit I for dey swallow now)..its better you suffer now and enjoy later, than enjoy now and suffer later,,Meanwhile some of the corpers that stayed in town left Niger state with DEBT/IGBESE (na from POP they run go house),,,3 month after my service,I am still searching and hoping for God favour for a Better job at the same time I have enrolled in computer training (mainly hardware) ... |
