ItsMeAboki:a literacy rate is an exam figure? LOL. Don't you have to be literate to cheat on an exam? |

ECOTERRORS:Useless nitwit, what has Islam got to do with your low intelligence and wretched life? Go ahead and invite an army of your flat head friends to help you, I am ready and up to the task - just one word of advice; don't start what you can't finish. |

Ofodirinwa:Do you even know the meaning of that word: literacy? Do you know that northerners have been literate when your forefathers were speaking gibberish. Do you know that Hausa (a predominant northern language) was the first written language in the entire West African region - written using ajabi (Arabic letters)? My friend, get off your high horse; go and read and get educated then come back and talk to me. |

It's also important to not that Wolof and Mande versions of Arabic, or Ajami, pre-date the Hausa writings. I'm not saying anything out of disrespect for anyone because I don't have time for that. I just want to dispel any misgivings you have about my people before you teach them on to your own children, be those children your offspring or wives. |

ItsMeAboki:Guy, why are you getting worked up?? ![]() GEJ and PEJ are the only examples of Nigerian university products you could come up with?? Out of the thousands of graduates that have gone through all the 30-something odd public universities we have in this country? Haba!! Is it that you were too lazy to get better examples, or too shallow to see other top-notch academicians that have passed through our university system, and excelled?? ![]() What explanation was given for their excellent exam results at Baze?? Was it the presence of overseas examiners, whose identities, academic pedigree and background, nobody knows or can vouch for? Anyway, all this is too hard for you to understand. So I expect you to delve into the realm of insults again, to search for a response. ![]() |

North tackle education with an expensive private university in abuja?? Isnt this meant for the same priviledged few elites? North is a medieval feudal kingdom. This is how to tackle education from the grassroot and make it all inclusive and have impact on the common ppl in the society:Anambra Returns 1,040 Schools To Missionaries: With N6bn To Boot https://www.nairaland.com/808717/anambra-returns-1040-schools-missionaries |

It is just unfortunate that we have so degenerated to a level where almost every issue is reduced to regional or ethnic insults/comparison. Op, thanks for posting this. I have always wondered why this university is little known/celebrated. Thanks for young people like Senator (Dr.) Datti Ahmed. Its so easy to buy data and criticise other people. Given its small population and the fact that is largely individual-sponsored, the fees are actually high but not too unexpected. More so, a good number of their staff are expatriates and I would imagine their pay + that of others and running costs. The onus is on government to improve both infrastructure and teaching in our public schools. I went to a well-reputed public university but I can tell you things have gone down the hill there now. For those who easily say private universities are all 'glorified secondary schools', the train may just leave you at the station. A multinational company with very stringent recruitment process did recruitment a year or two ago, and the recruiters where shocked that most of the successful ones came from a paarticular private university in the west and one of them asked -"what is that school doing differently?". Employers are looking beyond paper and past name of your school now. New skill sets like strategic analysis, out of the box thinking, problem solving and inter-personal relationship (soft skills) in addition to your academic competence meanwhile some of our schools are still stuck with decayed library books and strike-weary, handout-selling and sex-seeking lecturers. Sweeping generalisation and internet insults wont develop Nigeria. |

It is one thing to build a fine school, but it is another thing entirely to ensure that products of such schools are academically well-grounded, technically sound and professionally proficient. ![]() In the workplace, I have been privileged to interview graduates from both public and private universities. I've noticed that in certain disciplines, products from a few private universities have the upper edge, while in some other disciplines, graduates from some public universities have proven their worth. In my interaction with a telecoms company some years back, there was a young graduate from Babcock who was quite resourceful in the IT Dept. There was an old server that had been repaired a few times by various technical firms, but its' performance was still epileptic and sub-par. It kept breaking down every few days. The longest it ever worked without any intervention, was 14 days. Management was on the verge of taking a decision to scrap it and bring in a new one, when this guy requested for a chance to work on it. ![]() For close to 5 hours, after he stripped apart that piece of hardware, he left no stone unturned until he finally solved the problem. And for over 8 months after he worked on that server, there were no further problems until I eventually left the place. Of course, his profile soared and he was given automatic employment on completion of his NYSC. Another of his counterparts in that same company who came from the same school, was a software expert with programming skills. Now, when I recruit for various firms, I keep an eye out for graduates from their school. ![]() How did world-class tertiary institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford etc, acquire their reputation? Through the high-quality of graduates they churned out on a consistent basis. It is up to Baze University to show the world the stuff its graduates are made of. It is not just the amount of fine buildings present, that determine how great a student would be, or how well he would eventually perform in the workplace. It is a combination of facilities, quality of instruction, teaching methods, personal aptitude, capacity for learning, etc, that go a long way in shaping the skill sets that each graduate takes into the workplace. Just my 2 cents. ![]() |
