Baze University is a PRIVATE University established by Mallam Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed (PhD) in Abuja, FCT.

The institution delivers quality by having experienced international staff, superb teaching equipment, overseas external examiners, and first-rate buildings to guarantee standards. Baze University aims to provide university education to British standards in Nigeria at about half the cost of sending a student to study abroad.

The University is tackling head-on, the Nigerian issue of poor graduate quality, and is consolidating on the efforts of Government to improve enrolment and the standard of Education, particularly in the North.

Last week, the young institution graduated 206 students during its 2nd Convocation (with 11 1st class degrees). Gracing the occasion was the former Minister of Defence and former Executive Governor of Kano State His Excellency and Distinguished Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Deputy Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu, former Executive Governor of Kebbi State, and FCT Minister, Distinguished Senator Adamu Aleiro, as well as dignitaries from far and near, home and abroad, top government officials and from the private sector, captains of industry etc.

Snaps...

Welcome

It's a good development.
But I think best way to improve quality of education in the north (and in any place in general) is to start from the basic level (primary and secondary) , so that the students will have a good foundation. It is at that stage that most of the learning takes place.
So it is important to give pupils/students the best quality of education at that stage.
A student who has poor foundation from the basic level will struggle through higher institution even if it is a world-class university with the best quality (that is if he ever makes it to such a university in the first place).

Nigeria is a blessed country and Nigerians need to travel.

We are taking our destiny in our own hands by raising a generation of sterling world class professionals and academicians to help Nigeria reach its full potential. Human capacity will be wasted no further.

I was just thinking about the cost.
Nigeria has schools with good quality of education but the question is "can the ordinary citizen afford to study in these schools?"
Even though these schools are aimed at improving the quality of education in the country, only a selected (rich) few get to benefit from it.

I think for us to improve on the general quality of education in the country, the government needs to invest in education by focusing on the public schools (where most of the citizens are) and improving the quality of the schools. That way, every citizen can have access to good education.

I've been away and this is a beautiful welcome. This is quite impressive and I'm glad Sen Baba Ahmed (an academic himself) had the courage to make such an investment amidst the mediocrity that is characteristic of the Nigerian educational system.

Later wailers will scream that northerners are backward, illiterate and unintelligent. One thing we are not are noisemakers/chestbeaters, i just checked and this institution has been in existence since 2011.

Kudos Baba.

@Quotasystem,

Where is this school? I've seen signposts of one BAze school somewhere on airport road abuja stretch but can't pinpoint where exactly?

*Modified*

That's great to know, never paid it much mind before.

Good education is not cheap or free, nothing good comes free in a material world.

Education is never cheap and is subisidized/assisted worldwide. The UK which has one of the best educational systems in the world give their students loans to cover their tuition and upkeep because average schools charge about £5-6k (N1.5/2m) for their home students while international students pay approximately double the amount.

The cost of infrastructure, personnel etc. makes education naturally expensive. Don't let our low standards fool you.

Bros, that has always been my argument with these schools. The fees are extremely high, and we live in a country where there is nothing like student loans. Grants and scholarships, are like a few miserly drops in an ocean of need! sad

Yet, the private universities keep getting more and more expensive with very little alternatives available for funding the education of the ordinary citizens who truly want to learn and acquire an education. May God save us all! shocked

So who is subsiding the tuition fees at Baze?? Do you know how much the school charges per annum?? How many civil servants can afford to send their kids there??

1. Baze University uses OVERSEAS EXTERNAL EXAMINERS to ensure quality and integrity in their examinations, and to ensure the British standard which the school operates is maintained.

http://www.bazeuniversity.edu.ng/

2. To ensure examination integrity, the University employs Biometric verification in its exam halls.

Nobody is subsidizing any fees at BAZE as there are many students with the financial capacity to pay their fees, and there has been a steady geometric increase in enrolment year after year. If you wonder where these people are coming from, go to our airports and see the volume of students going to Malaysia, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and the UK to pay twice as much.

Quality and world-class education is not cheap.

Interesting! And what is the quality of those overseas external examiners?? And what universities were those overseas external examiners drawn from? What are their qualifications?

As for biometrics, it only prevents impersonation and probably, forgery. Biometrics is not used by students to answer exam questions during the examination, neither is it used by teachers for marking exam scripts, is it?? shocked

In as much as there are development in the educational sector in the North, I would like to see more effort especially from the government part. The problem is not that there are no willing private investors ready to support the educational sector, but rather the lackluster attitude of our northern government in engaging these private individuals so as to provide higher services and help in increasing enrollment.
Northern governors should encourage the building of private schools, most especially primary schools by providing incentives such as free land and also reducing the time wasting bureaucracy in setting up these schools.
There is also need for Northern governors to concentrate on their primary role which is regulation so as to Make sure that effective and qualitative education is provided according to global best practices.

You have no point as such information would the preserve of the institutions authorities.

11 out of 200+ students got a first class and you're going forensic already? Mate I'd understand by Nigerian standards but may I remind you this is a University tailored and operated according to the British standard.

No the preponderence of half-baked graduates is a problem in the whole of Nigeria.

And no, your education 'standard' is not standard.

Why should the fees be subsidised by anyone? Didn't you read that the university is privately owned; don't you know that private institutions go into business to make money by producing goods or services to anyone who can afford it? Why should this institution be any different and why must it be affordable to civil servants - what is so special about them?
You are obviously thinking and looking at this issue from a very narrow perspective.
