nawao, this is serious! I think government at various levels have not done enough to stem this ugly tide. A special court should be established to try these cases; the regular courts are so bugged down with a lot of cases, hence rape cases are not expeditiously dealt with. The reform should also include that the victim need not to prove the case beyond every reasonable doubt as this has hampered the trial of offenders. Other means of proof should be made. Stiffer penalties like life imprisonment and to some extreme cases, castration should be enshrined in the law. Though, even with all these laws, rape cases will still be reported, but it will go a long way in making potential offenders to think twice before committing a rape crime.

Let the laws be modified to administer more realistic punishments like 5 or 6 years jail term with hard labour instead of saying life jail term which is not realistic.
In developed countries offences such as these ensures the offender is thrown into jail for like 10 years which makes it easier. Also the law puts everything around us. If the judiciary fails to be upright, crime will continue to be on the increase.

Look, the number of UNREPORTED r@pe cases is more important, but m0r0ns will be m0r0ns. I have met many Igbo women who were r@ped in the East but never reported the matter.
