One of the major problems facing the Medical graduands now as regards Internship placing is as a result of the "UNREST" in the North Western states of our dear country as fresh graduands are scared of traveling down to such states for placement as a result mounting pressure on the few facilities in other Zones which are overwhelmed by a larger variable and it is sad to note that most Health facilities in such crisis prone states have a higher capacity to absorb most prospective interns compared to other zones. |

eleojo23:Why is getting admission into medical school "something we need to struggle to get?" Why do we need to write UTME and Post-UTME despite having 5 credits in our WASSCE? If you can answer those questions, you should find the reason why one should struggle to get internship placements in the various certified establishments. |

I think the concerned bodies should adopt the council of legal education's practice of posting law school students to designated law firms. The council has a list of law firms and state ministries of justice it partners with. As a student, all you need to do is indicate your preferred state and local govt area, then you get posted automatically. No hassles. Shop for books. Check my signature. |

OP u are on point. so many people may not understand our plight, the depression and frustration that comes with stagnancy. I have travelled to most of all the states in Nigeria all in search of an internship placement(Just 1yr) the most annoying one was when I went to illorin (UITH) after buying the form for 5k, travelling for over 10hrs by road to d hospital, the risk, d very bad road only to finish the so called interview and only 8 persons were taken from my own speciality(haematology) in a hospital as big as UITH.if the government wants let them look into it as for me, they cannot hold me down. Ahead ahead poultry farming on a larger scale. No dulling!!! Notin is stopping us. We balling hard. |

Obinoscopy:You shouln't place getting admission and internship on the same level. There are two different things. Internship is an extension of the medical program. There are already approved centres with enough slots to go round but corruption and a lot of irregularities has made it difficult for these graduates to get these slots. Look at the NYSC program for instance. It is almost mandatory for every graduate to serve before seeking employment. Does anyone struggle to get NYSC posting? So, in the same way, we are saying that the regulatory bodies of these medical professions should adopt the practice of posting graduates to these approved centres. That way, it will be mandatory for these centres to take in the graduates. |

Op move down North, it is less competative here. As for employment exams, it should continue, the calibre of medical graduates these days call for concern. |

My own opinion base on my interaction with colleagues during interview Cause 1.corruption: colleagues from ss n se confessed that officials in dr own region sell house job employment letter for 300k.a colleague of mine told me that on one occasion he had begged wt 150k bt d amount was rejected and also said that dos same set of govt officials sell d postgraduate residency employment letter for 1million naira.by so doing it make indigenes of ds areas run to oda states/region wr dey wont need to pay anyone such an amount . by so doing dey increase d pressure in dos areas.like d recent interview I attended in d north, out of 30 that sat for d exam, 7wr indigene of d state ,6 from kogi/kwara/zamfara/oyo.d remaining 17 wr from ss/se .odas case of corruption include chief medical directors employing less than d allotted slots to dr institution in oda to keep d remaining cash to dmselves.some even employ contract staff wr dey pay peanut to such contract staffs. 2: insurgency in d north east.its no longer news that ppl r running away from States like yobe ,borno, bauchi, gombe, adamawa. |

When u think its hard to get a placement for housejob, then residency is a nut case. No harmonized program of placing prospective interns and residents in their appropriate programs. It's disheartening. Most of us have our primaries soon expiring. |

Obinoscopy:Haba Obinoscopy! If house job is like admission then why is the license after graduation temporary with a time frame attached in which one must complete house job? Spots for internship were never meant to be contested. |

emerich:Forget the unrest. I know 5 doctors who just came back from maiduguri yesterday after staying there for a month waiting for a housejob placement in either the specialist hospital or UMTH. They even helped out in management of some of the recent bomb victims when the doctors available were overwhelmed by the number of patients. Even went through an interview but were finally rejected based on place of origin while the only northerner present for the interview got a slot. It's that bad. It's either you have the connection or you pay up. |
| Re: Difficulty In Getting Placements for Internship In Nigeria by Nobody: 11:23pm On Oct 16, 2015 |
Kcinho:why were they rejected? I thought the north has shortage of medical doctors. Do they use connections there too |
| Re: Difficulty In Getting Placements for Internship In Nigeria by Kcinho(m): 11:32pm On Oct 16, 2015 |
Obinoscopy:Bros chill cos it's obvious you know nothing about medical internship/housemanship. It is compulsory just like law school before you go for your NYSC. And there are designated hospitals licensed for the internship. For doctors, if you don't get a place within a stipulated time your license expires and you pay for another license before you can start hunting again. So it's not same with normal hustle for job which every doctor will still do after NYSC. No housemanship, no NYSC. |

| Re: Difficulty In Getting Placements for Internship In Nigeria by Kcinho(m): 11:43pm On Oct 16, 2015 |
justirich:Of course the hospital has some slots available( about 12, which made the hospital call for interview. Maybe they were disappointed cos of the 6 people present for the interview only 1 was from the north, others were Igbo. So only the northern guy got the job. There are spaces in the northeast but they rather remain short of staff than give "nyamiri". A lot of tribalism, nepotism and fraud going on in this internship stuff. |
