Ever since the news broke that Linda Ikeji got a house in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos for half a billion Naira, a lot of negative things have been said about her. Most people believe she couldn't have gotten all that money without sleeping with a few rich men. No one wants to believe her blog can afford her a house of 500 million Naira. I was with some business men on Friday night, and we argued for about 3 hours. None of them wanted to believe she bought the house from money made off her blog. I was the only one that defended her.


It seems she has been hearing the words around town about her, and she decided to put things straight. Of cos most won't still believe her words, but because I am in the same business as her, and know how much she earns monthly; I believe her.


This morning, she put up pictures of her new house on her blog, and accompanied it with some history behind her success. Read excerpts of what she wrote below.

"My name is Linda Ikeji. I'm a blogger. I'm 35 years old and I have never...never ever in my life slept with a man for money. Not only have I never done it, I have never even considered it...and here I am with a house that cost me over half a billion naira."

Learn to behave like a queen, then your King will surface.

Bragging about everything you buy including SHOES, BAGS, DRESS on instagram makes me wonder the kind of King that will descend from his throne of values and take you as his queen. It is not a criteria no doubt but you understand what i mean.

No matter how successful you are, I still believe it is a poverty mentality that screams about every achievement as if it is the end of the world.

Suddenly more people now know that there is an Island where Banana is planted called Banana Island. A lot of people have bought houses and lived there for years without this much noise.

Your well over 500 Million house is an awesome achievement but i know a section of Banana Island where a plot of Land is around A Billion Naira.

I have read Ibikun Awosika's book titled "The Girl Entrepreneurs" and I am inspired with what ladies are doing as enterpreneurs.
Making us believe this noise is because you did not eat banana to achieve them still does not justify it.

I hear you say that you want to show the girls that hardwork pays ? I will say that you keep quiet and just say that the grace of God pays.

If it by hardwork, Laila is a blogger, a banker, a mother and a house wife. Those who have worked in a bank knows what diligence mean to combine the 3 not to mention Stella's blog.

When i see a lady in the same Range Rover we could not sleep over when you bought it. I smile and wish my girls don't taste so much poverty that wealth will drive them in sane.

I am not hating on you and have no reason to. As a matter of fact i have been visiting your blog minimum of 365 times in a year for over 3 years running now.

Congratulations on Your Range, House and also Marriage and Child in advance.

Even after achieving all that 'feat' you might still feel empty. I am happy for the grace of God and his blessing over your life.

See the epistle you typed...Na wa for your own level of bad belle o! I wonder why people can't see what this lady is trying to do. She doesn't posts the cars and the houses, and the shoes and bags with the intention of belittling anyone, or trying to say she is better than anyone. She posts them and make young girls know they can make money the legitimate way without sleeping around. And she also encourages young entrepreneurs coming from nothing...giving them hope that they can become successful and leave poverty for good. She always repeats it over and over, YOU CAN MAKE AS MUCH AS I MAKE, OR EVEN MORE.

dammy I tel u it takes d grace of God to make it in life wat I see in her case is dat blogging is her destiny & God truly elevated her Linda did nt suffer or struggle Dan me I can boldly say Dat. I trekked 2hours everyday to school when I was secondary school for 6years even when I got admission to college of education my mum wil give me 300 for feeding & T-fare Dat I will trekked so d money wil be enough to feed me I did dis for another 4 years wat abt d time we all go to bed without food d day a woman came to disgrace my mum because of 500 only d day our Lantern got spoilt we started sleeping in darkness most times we wil on dis lamp dey cal Shakabula so we can see our way thru d house all d paw-paw in our vicinity knows us as paw-paw family because Dat is our afternoon meal so many I can't talk abt here after schooling dere was no job d schools I applied for where telling me dey could only pay 15 thousand. I managed to get a job in V.I I wil leave d house 4am every morning to meet up I did it for 4 years b4 I stopped can u say I av nt suffer or struggle enough nt to talk of some menial jobs I did. God should just bless our hussle Dat is d

. Well said its just the grace of God over her life nothing more. She always sound as if she works harder than most entrepreneur moi inclusive. I am happy for her!! But its just by God's grace

Yes, she does. Working from 5am to 10 pm is her normal daily routine. That's 17 hours a day. And she had to blog for 5 years (2006-20011) before she made a dime. In 2010, on her 30th birthday, she didn't have up to a thousand Naira in her account, and she had been blogging for 4 years at the time. Think about that. People should stop downplaying the work this girl put in. There is nothing like luck here. If you work as hard as her, for as long as she did before she made it, and you are dedicated and focused, God will bless you too.

my dear if you own a business in this economy and don't work minimum 9hrs a day!! Peps would run you down and steal frrom you, we have businesses that existed for over five years , I still say its by Gods grace. Not just sheer hardwork. Believe what you want. It is a free world. I have found out it is mostly lazy people that keep saying it is grace of God. Ofcos the God factor is there, but if you work hard on a definite purpose for a period of time, and you put in more time daily than most people in the same business, you will become successful. It is not rocket science. It is not easy o, but God helps those who help themselves.
