.Thevgood old doctors in St Nicholas are all gone. I used to know a good pharmacist b there, Mrs Zee.

I know a friend that lost his mother to a very minor surgery because she was infected during the surgery, can you imagine?

This is carelessness from the doctors! What kind of sad story is this. Jesus!

Ok this is the most ridiculous shït I have read this week.
Couple of doctors who are charged with the responsibility of saving lives, failed woefully in discharging their duties, and you turn around to hook it on God as having the final say.
Y'all Nigerian Christians need to take moment and use your brains. Sometimes, it is just common sense, no need for any divine revelation or something

So sad, same way the negligence of another so called 'big private hospital' in lagos cost my father his life early this year! The same consultant story!

She should sue them very well..... If more people did this, these hospitals would step up and stop playing with patients' lives.

I have my unpalatable personal experience with St. Nicolas.

If I had sued for damages, mismanagement and negligence of duty, I would have gotten millions of Naira compensation from that careless hospital.

Anyway, I have moved-on as a good Christian and leave all matters to the creator.

Mr. Charles, continue to rest in peace, and may God grant your wife and family the fortitude to bear the loss of your untimely death in the hands of some careless medical practitioners in Nigeria.

Maybe if you had gone ahead to sue, it would have made them sit up and we would have avoided tragedies such as this.

Very true with Nigerian doctors so ineptitude in their duties. I once had a mallet finger injury to my little finger.

Went to Lagoon Specialist Hospital and having spent like 2 hours there to see the doctor, they couldn't tell me what it was. Doctor rather requested an x-ray and see a consultant following week.

The doctor never for once recommend using a splint to properly it up until I angrily asked why and it was done.

Cut Story Short, I ended up treating myself by buying a specialized splint on Amazon less than $10 as the hospital or Igbobi the consultant called couldn't do any better.

Sad but I most times feel safe in my own hands than the hospitals. Even for governor Akpabio despite building the biggest hospital in Africa still dodged to UK after his James Bond driving accident RIP ChazB.

so the medic that saw the previous evening did not recognise uremic symptoms and discharged home...haba i beg to differ.

that saint nicolas hospital in a fake village health center.....its all over hype....i remember last year dec 25 i was at my friends house in lekki phase 1 for his birthday party....we were all drinking till late dat nite till a call came in around 3am when we were in the club dat his mother inlaw is sick ....we all went back home and d next morning the mother was taken to devil nicolars hospital....he was told to put initial deposit of 1million naira which he paid....and she was wheeled in for scan and the rest.....i left happy thinking at least this solid hospital has enough equipment to take care of her....she is just hypertensive oh.....only to get a call that the mother died dat night.....i wondered wat was the 1 million naira for....what really did they do with it....and they still had to cough out more bills oh....i prefer to go health center in my village than that hospital....all dem sabi na effizi...and put magazine make u read.....nuffin dey there

Just hypertension you say,Hypertension has more than 40 common complications and old age makes it worse.. mind you I am not defending the hospital.

But you sef don't be judgmental or sentimental.. For a scan to be done for hypertension ,its most likely an echocardiography or kidney ultrasound meaning the hypertension has had complications

Nigerians don't goto hospital till it's too much to bear and the damages has been done..

Imagine that the liver will continue working till about 90% of its mass is gone and in that case it's almost impossible to recover..go for check up regularly you hear?

One of the reasons why some folks go overseas for treatment.

I am really sorry for your loss and extend my condolences. I think you are doing the right thing by contacting your lawyers. That is the only way to make things improve for the better. However, I have to ask why you took your husband back to the same hospital when it was glaringly evident the doctors there were incompetent during the first visit?

OMG......poor woman.....I always thought St.Nicholas is one of the best around here.Madam it happens everywhere.... I remember a female doctor said to me when my Sister was rushed to General Hospital Epe 'you better hold it (oxygen pipe) well or else she go just die'.......hot tears ran over my cheeks.

Mediocrity and not excellence is the order of the day in virtually all of service life in Nigeria. Abroad even veterinary doctors wouldn't have acted this way. The sad thing is that someone would trivialize this "in the interest of so called peace". I am gutted and sad. This should be thoroughly investigated and those found negligent should be penalized and published as deterrent to others.

Reason very well.... Any life that can be saved should be saved!

If this had been in the US, you can be sure his life would be saved and if he had died, it would be because there was nothing more they could do for him..... That's why people who have the means would rather go abroad for medical check up.

His life might not be special to you but it is very special to his family and just because everyone dies should not mean we should allow our medical sector to crumble without a fight.

The courts will definitely not bring his life back but will definitely make sure the hospital steps up in their activities, thereby saving a lot of lives in future!

It's a pity, but things are done with protocol, in this case, Dr kevwe Is not at fault, he wasn't the one who started the treatment, since it's an emergency, he had absolutely no idea about his case, as his file was locked somewhere.... I believe he is just a junior doc, the so called doctor was called upon to come around and refused is at fault, they should know life is more important Dan one night rest,... He should know dat being a doctor, he can be call upon any time,.... These doctors are so annoying,... In my life I have never bin admitted in any hospital, God pls, let me grow old and just sleep and be on my way out of this earth without health complications..... Protect us from sickness God.

Its really sad when a loved one loses his or her life to avoidable circumstances. imagine the doctor on duty taking instructions via phone that clearly shows his inability to handle the situation. What stopped the consultant from carrying himself down to the hospital instead of sitting back wherever he was to give instructions when it was obvious that the doctor on duty couldn't handle the situation on ground.
Human life is valuable and should be treated so. a family has been deprived of their father, breadwinner, husband, son, friend as a result of trial and error, trial and success. I think the widow should sue the hospital this rubbish has to stop...May God console them.

What a pathetic story, please sew them to the last penny and make sure they do not recover from any insurance they might have, so that the hurt Will cost them the hospital.

He (Kevwe) opened an emergency file because according to him, my husband’s file was locked up in Dr. Bamgboye’s office, and no one has access to that office. I told Dr. Kevwe that my husband had incisional hernia surgery done a few months back at the same hospital, August to be precise and it was performed by one Dr. Mohan an India man, and Dr. Balogun at St. Nicholas Hospital. He started to examine him. He then left us in his office and said he was coming back.

He came back after some minutes and said he was trying to reach Dr. Balogun from the reception, but he is not getting through. So I used my husband’s phone and dialed Balogun and got through. At this point, I gave the phone to Dr. Kevwe, and he started explaining to Dr. Balogun, what he thought was the problem. Balogun on the other end asked if my husband was in pains, and Kevwe said yes. Dr. Kevwe told Dr. Balogun that he was suspecting intestinal obstruction. Dr. Balogun asked if there was any swelling around where the incision was done, but Dr.Kevwe said no. Balogun asked if there was any reddish sign around the same area, and Kevwe said no. So Dr. Kevwe suggested giving him antibiotics, but Balogun said that they have to be careful what they give him, since he is a post kidney transplant patient. Balogun asked them to give him a particular injection twice to ease the pains, and he said that they should observe him till the next morning. So I left to go get him what he had asked for (his tea and his stockings). On my way around Bonny Camp, I got a call from a strange number, when I picked up; it was Dr. Kevwe, on the other end. He asked me to turn back to come pick up my husband, and I asked why?

She moved over to the other side and called the Dr’s office. They both argued about the drug that he wrote, she then gave me just1 tablet of Exforge. When my husband got up from the hospital bed, he staggered and I held him and asked if he’s fine. The Dr. said that it’s the injection that was given to him that he would be fine. So I took him home.

We got home. And just about 15minutes after, my husband said he felt like throwing up. I brought a bowl to him, and he vomited, and he felt a bit better. He slept for some time and got up in excruciating pain.
Immediately I jumped into my clothes and then called Dr. Balogun, to say that we are on our way back to the hospital. He said no problem that the doctor will be waiting for me. I asked, which doctor? And he said the doctor is their senior surgeon by the name Dr. Fadiran. Balogun said that Dr. Fadiran was the doctor on call. We got to the hospital in less than 20 minutes; my husband came down from the car himself. He walked into the hospital by himself before he was wheeled into the ER. Then came Dr. Kevwe, and I asked him about the senior surgeon, and he told me that he would be coming very soon. I wasn’t too happy with that, as I had mentioned to Dr. Balogun that my husband was in serious pains. I expected to see a consultant like he said. Kevwe started by
trying to put him on a drip that took forever, as he was unable to successfully get his veins while my husband was languishing in pain.

My husband kept telling them (DR. Kevwe and the nurse) that he wants to throw up or use the restroom, and he would be fine. He kept saying that if he throws up he will be fine. Meanwhile, Dr. Kevwe was taking instructions on the phone from Dr. Fadiran. This was when I asked when the Dr. would come. I kept asking, “when will the doctor come?” And Dr. Kevwe said Dr. Fadiran asked him to get my entire husband’s information. DR. Kevwe told me that they are
waiting for the Radiologist and the Anesthesiologist, and none of these people showed up.


My husband kept on saying that he wants to throw up. But then, Dr. Kevwe asked the nurse to give him an injection, I asked what the injection was for? And he said it will stop him from vomiting. He became so uncomfortable and was losing his breath. They put him on oxygen, but I guess he was already choking.

I don’t know his name, but he’s average in height and dark complexioned. He inserted a suction tube into his mouth, but I guess he was two hours or more late with that. Because if that was done when I brought him to the hospital that morning, he would have been here with me today.

If Dr. Fadiran were at the hospital, even after he was told that it was an emergency; my husband would have been here with me. If the anesthesiologist was at the hospital, he probably would have been here with me. If the radiologist were around on that morning to at least see what was happening inside of him, he probably would have been here with me. If Dr. Kevwe knew exactly what he was doing that morning without taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone, with an emergency case right in front of him, my husband would have been here. My husband died of total negligence on the part of St. Nicholas Hospital, and I know it. Like I said earlier, the doctor was 2 hours plus late with the suction, because, at this time, the nurse was already calling my husband’s name, shouting “Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles!” He was given four adrenaline injections. The drip wasn’t going at all, all this while lest I forget. I watched my husband struggled to breath. I watched him fight for his life, and I was right there when he died. And even though they were busy with CPR, I knew when he passed on because immediately he stopped struggling, fluid started gushing out of his mouth and nose, I knew that was it. That was the same fluid that was choking him. If there were a senior consultant or surgeon at the hospital as at when I brought him, he probably, would have been helped. In between all this, Dr. Kevwe at a time said to Dr. Fadiran on the phone that he should come now as the patient is in a critical condition. He said to the same Dr. Fadiran that 11 O’clock might be too
late. I brought my husband at about 6 AM to St. Nicholas Hospital and he died at about 9.30AM without receiving prompt and adequate care.

Human life cannot continue to be lost soo cheaply in Nigerian Hospital, people must be made to account for their actions as professionals hence I have contacted my Lawyers to investigate the cause of death as he has died with our dreams, aspirations, and vision and planned future together.

The trauma, the pain, and the cutting short of expecting joy was just too much for me after the sad incidence, I had to fly my wife to the UK to rest and recover from the bitter experience.

Very painful.

A doctor at the end of the day should be able to say I did all I could do. That is the core of the Hippocratic oath taken .
In this case, the hospital did little or nothing.

Very minimal respect for almost all the private hospitals in Lagos, for so many reasons. Most government hospitals are now well equipped, staffed and funded. Above all, God gives and God takes. RIP Mr Chukwuma, and stay strong Mrs Chukwuma.

My sister so sad that you went through this ordeal in the hands of our doctors who know next to nothing and use patients as specimen for experimentation. My did CS and I am diabetic, could you believe that the doctor who owns the hospital where my wig did the CS told my wife that my wife should come for treatment that I have transferred diabetes to her? When my wife informed me, I confronted the doctor and asked him if I should call in the press men, can he repeat what he told my wife before them? I told him that he is one dubious and useless doctor. So sad what we go through in this country

I don't think you had a proper thought process before you put that up there... what do you mean by that?

The problem with Nigeria is that most people don't value human life & it shows in how we handle it. In a sane society those doctors would definitely find themselves in a very hot soup, not to talk of raging lawsuit that will finish them off while they face substantial damages.

The way forward is to have strong institutions e.g regulatory bodies that would keep an eye on these ediots called doctors, only then shall we begin to see improvements.

not holding brief or talking down on anyone but the doc on night duty should have followed all emergency protocols (if they had any tho)
question is...
did he have a diagnosis?
did he have the necessary skill and equipment to stabilize the patient?
did he refer when it was beyond his scope?
when he assumed that 11am was late for the senior to arrive why did he not refer immediately?

Oh...he must have died of End Stage Kidney Failure.
And a failed transplant.
I wouldn't nail the doctor or hospital tho....this kinda conditions have no respite.

My husband called me at about 6:40 AM, Friday the 21st of November 2014, from work. He asked me to come and pick him up, that he was not feeling too good. I left with the driver to get him. When I got there, he was too uncomfortable, and he asked me to take him home. But on our way home, I noticed that he was in pains, so I asked the driver to reverse the car and head instead to the hospital (St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos).
On reaching there, we met Judith, the receptionist. I asked if there was a Doctor around. This was around 7 PM. She said yes and after some time we were asked to go into Room 2. Right there we met a young Doctor called Dr. Ogidigben Kevwe. He asked a few questions that I answered while my husband was wallowing in pains. He (Kevwe) opened an emergency file because according to him, my husband’s file was locked up in Dr. Bamgboye’s office, and no one has access to that office. I told Dr. Kevwe that my husband had incisional hernia surgery done a few months back at the same hospital, August to be precise and it was performed by one Dr. Mohan an India man, and Dr. Balogun at St. Nicholas Hospital. He started to examine him. He then left us in his office and said he was coming back.

He came back after some minutes and said he was trying to reach Dr. Balogun from the reception, but he is not getting through. So I used my husband’s phone and dialed Balogun and got through. At this point, I gave the phone to Dr. Kevwe, and he started explaining to Dr. Balogun, what he thought was the problem. Balogun on the other end asked if my husband was in pains, and Kevwe said yes. Dr. Kevwe told Dr. Balogun that he was suspecting intestinal obstruction. Dr. Balogun asked if there was any swelling around where the incision was done, but Dr.Kevwe said no. Balogun asked if there was any reddish sign around the same area, and Kevwe said no. So Dr. Kevwe suggested giving him antibiotics, but Balogun said that they have to be careful what they give him, since he is a post kidney transplant patient. Balogun asked them to give him a particular injection twice to ease the pains, and he said that they should observe him till the next morning. So I left to go get him what he had asked for (his tea and his stockings). On my way around Bonny Camp, I got a call from a strange number, when I picked up; it was Dr. Kevwe, on the other end. He asked me to turn back to come pick up my husband, and I asked why?

He (Kevwe) said that my Husband is feeling much better, and wants to go home. I asked the driver to reverse and head back to the hospital. And on getting there, I went in and asked the Dr. again why he wants me to take him home. He repeated once again that he feels much better and I asked Kevwe if he was asking me to take him home because he thinks he feels better or that the hospital doesn’t have a bed for him. I asked this because the nurse had mentioned earlier that she needed to check for bed space. Kevwe at this point told me that my Husband would be fine, he asked me to take my Husband home and bring him the following morning. Meanwhile, before then, Kewe wrote a prescription of drugs for my husband which I took to the pharmacist and when the lady there saw it, she asked which Dr. I saw. I told her that it was Dr. Kewe. She moved over to the other side and called the Dr’s office. They both argued about the drug that he wrote, she then gave me just1 tablet of Exforge. When my husband got up from the hospital bed, he staggered and I held him and asked if he’s fine. The Dr. said that it’s the injection that was given to him that he would be fine. So I took him home.

We got home. And just about 15minutes after, my husband said he felt like throwing up. I brought a bowl to him, and he vomited, and he felt a bit better. He slept for some time and got up in excruciating pain.
Immediately I jumped into my clothes and then called Dr. Balogun, to say that we are on our way back to the hospital. He said no problem that the doctor will be waiting for me. I asked, which doctor? And he said the doctor is their senior surgeon by the name Dr. Fadiran. Balogun said that Dr. Fadiran was the doctor on call. We got to the hospital in less than 20 minutes; my husband came down from the car himself. He walked into the hospital by himself before he was wheeled into the ER. Then came Dr. Kevwe, and I asked him about the senior surgeon, and he told me that he would be coming very soon. I wasn’t too happy with that, as I had mentioned to Dr. Balogun that my husband was in serious pains. I expected to see a consultant like he said. Kevwe started by
trying to put him on a drip that took forever, as he was unable to successfully get his veins while my husband was languishing in pain.

My husband kept telling them (DR. Kevwe and the nurse) that he wants to throw up or use the restroom, and he would be fine. He kept saying that if he throws up he will be fine. Meanwhile, Dr. Kevwe was taking instructions on the phone from Dr. Fadiran. This was when I asked when the Dr. would come. I kept asking, “when will the doctor come?” And Dr. Kevwe said Dr. Fadiran asked him to get my entire husband’s information. DR. Kevwe told me that they are
waiting for the Radiologist and the Anesthesiologist, and none of these people showed up.


My husband kept on saying that he wants to throw up. But then, Dr. Kevwe asked the nurse to give him an injection, I asked what the injection was for? And he said it will stop him from vomiting. He became so uncomfortable and was losing his breath. They put him on oxygen, but I guess he was already choking.

Meanwhile, Kevwe was still taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone. At this time, he started gasping for air. Meanwhile, before then, another doctor showed up. I don’t know his name, but he’s average in height and dark complexioned. He inserted a suction tube into his mouth, but I guess he was two hours or more late with that. Because if that was done when I brought him to the hospital that morning, he would have been here with me today.

If Dr. Fadiran were at the hospital, even after he was told that it was an emergency; my husband would have been here with me. If the anesthesiologist was at the hospital, he probably would have been here with me. If the radiologist were around on that morning to at least see what was happening inside of him, he probably would have been here with me. If Dr. Kevwe knew exactly what he was doing that morning without taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone, with an emergency case right in front of him, my husband would have been here. My husband died of total negligence on the part of St. Nicholas Hospital, and I know it. Like I said earlier, the doctor was 2 hours plus late with the suction, because, at this time, the nurse was already calling my husband’s name, shouting “Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles!” He was given four adrenaline injections. The drip wasn’t going at all, all this while lest I forget. I watched my husband struggled to breath. I watched him fight for his life, and I was right there when he died. And even though they were busy with CPR, I knew when he passed on because immediately he stopped struggling, fluid started gushing out of his mouth and nose, I knew that was it. That was the same fluid that was choking him. If there were a senior consultant or surgeon at the hospital as at when I brought him, he probably, would have been helped. In between all this, Dr. Kevwe at a time said to Dr. Fadiran on the phone that he should come now as the patient is in a critical condition. He said to the same Dr. Fadiran that 11 O’clock might be too
late. I brought my husband at about 6 AM to St. Nicholas Hospital and he died at about 9.30AM without receiving prompt and adequate care.

Human life cannot continue to be lost soo cheaply in Nigerian Hospital, people must be made to account for their actions as professionals hence I have contacted my Lawyers to investigate the cause of death as he has died with our dreams, aspirations, and vision and planned future together.

On this plane called planet earth the only thing bankable upon is the WORD of God aka Jesus. thats the only dependable source of deliverance from pain, terror , death etc

I'm sorry but this is hogwash, the doctors were negligent and the mgt of St Nicholas were to be blamed for not putting things right. A class action suit should be brought against St Nicholas for their unprofessional conduct.

Let's take some matter of our Lord's lap and treat it with the wisdom and knowledge he has given us.

I am really sorry for your loss and extend my condolences. I think you are doing the right thing by contacting your lawyers. That is the only way to make things improve for the better. However, I have to ask why you took your husband back to the same hospital when it was glaringly evident the doctors there were incompetent during the first visit?

That is where she said the husband's kidney transplant was done. Since they performed the surgery, they are the only people fit to follow up on the case. One of the problem in this case was that the doctor on duty did not even has access to the man's file which has been locked up in another doctor's office. Many things sadly went wrong for the man. It is an institutional problem, the hospital needs procedural overhaul if they are to perform their duty well. How do you lock up a case file in a doctor's office? I think that has to have been transferred back to record section of the hospital.

Secondly .the man was a high risk patient hence the doctors were right to be cautious about medications.

Thirdly.. All the steps taken were medically in order

..even if he anesthesiologist wasnt needed till the man was critical. the radiologist wasn't needed until the necessary resuscitation was being done .

It's a very unfortunate situation.. But its giving the dog a bad name to hang it.. Nigeria is bad for all of us..imagine calling the anesthesiologist by 9pm and he leaves home immediately but because of traffic he arrives late then you blame him 'chai doctors don suffer sha..
I swear Nigerians are damn ungrateful ..Doctors are the very few coping with the poor system.

You don't discharge a patient in that particular state home. The best they should have done is keep him in the hospital or send him to another hospital if they had no bed space.
No diagnosis was made on him. So what were they hoping to treat.
No lab test was done. Considering that he is post kidney transplant, the first thing should have been a blood chemistry test at least. An abdominal USG if available.

A junior doctor should have a senior doctor hanging around, just incase things get hairy. That case was beyond that guy.
Shït!!! They did nothing. They killed the man.
