Thank you. That was how the most effective staff was axed in one of the topmost Nigerian banks 3-4 years ago. The guy actually had ND certificate, but he claimed he has Bsc. This guys is well regarded for knowing the nitty-gritty of his job by all his colleagues and he was no doubt the most favourite of his line supervisor, but was latter expelled when his fake certificate was discovered.

The question is what do employers really need between paper qualification and proficiency skills? As far as I am concerned, certificate is over-rated in Nigeria. Forget all these hype, a brilliant secondary school can do most of the things done by bankers if properly trained within 3-4 months. That is why even a graduate of Arabic/yoruba language can work in bank.

Moreso, one will still be trained specially when gainfully employed as being a graduate is regarded as nothing. One thing I have come to realize is that I must give proper attention to the proficiency skills and competency over paper qualification that was mostly obtained unscrupulously in our Nigerian institutions if I become employer of labour.

The fact that people get a way with it is not enough to justify him! He has done a wrong thing and no iota escuse is enogh to clear him. He should face the music.

Oh, this reminds me of a man that recently forged WAEC certificate to run for presidency. Truth is, the law in Nigeria is like a spider Web, it catches only small insects.

And he still pleaded Not Guilty? after confessing to the crime? is there any further punishment for taking a wrong plea in the face of groundbreaking evidence?

But this guy worked perfectly with Wema Bank for good 2 years? I presume he started having problems when he was due for promotion and his credentials were to be reviewed. As much as I totally condemn forgery and impersonation, is it his certificate that u need or his certification?

Whatsoever reason he must have got it's not tenable because that's how mediocre keep multiplying in our society,
if he could forge a certificate to work in a bank is there anything that can stop him from stealing depositors money when there is another need for such?

if you had gone to the bank and you were poorly served (maybe due to his lack of `necessary` formal training that the purported certificate and recommendations should have exposed him to) would you be lenient on the bank or you would tag the entire workforce of the bank as incompetent (not trying to attack you just an expression ).

There is a need for us to have competent hands in all parastatals both government and private sector.

This reminds me of a friend who was denied emploment because of NYSC discharge certificate; of which he later got his call up letter 2yrs after graduating.

It's not just about being qualified (whatever you deem qualification to mean), it's also about building trust. This is a bank we're talking about where people's funds are managed. Would you want to bank with an institution where all manner of people are employed all in the name of being "qualified", as you say.

If the employment process of a financial institution are porous, then funds there are not safe. These are control issues which obviously the bank has taken measures with.

We all know that u mostly find pretty ladies with few guys at the counter.
How will u justify this:,
A bank manager said they once emplyed two ladies with good paper qualification and the are very good looking(bank tinz). They later find out they have nothing upstairs and have to fire them. They have the paper qualification bt can defend it.
I stil hold my stand that paper qualification is given too much priority in 9ja. That's y most 9ja youth don't want to acquire any skill(hand work)

I'm sure he is one of those people that was saying, even if buhari present NEPA bill, they will Still vote for him. he should have presented invoice to the bank, maybe it would have been more acceptable. mtcheeeew, all this most educated suffersticated people self.
