The aburi accord was billed to ensure peace and avoid the civil war in 1967,ojukwu and gowon both signed the agreement in the presence of international delegates, when gowon got back to nigeria he refused to implement the agreement.my question is why did he signed the agreement at the first instance when he knew that he will not honour it or did ojukwu forced him to do so at gun point? |

Gowon just signed it for signing sake and not implementation. He was the puppet of the northern caliphate, and they were pulling the strings with the support of British government. Ojukwu had no option than to protect his people. |

Gowon was a stark illiterate..he doesn't understand wot he signed untill he came back to nigeria and was educated by his kinsmen..that's why he decided not to honour it..and that was what brought about seccession by ojukwu which later cause the war... |

The answer is simple. This is because Ojukwu refused to back down in his demand for Biafra. The condition was for Ojukwu to back down but he refused then Gowon said let's dig it out |
