asEdeyHOT:Alabo Abiye-Akio Abbey should have written a book about all these atrocities, and recorded a documentary to preserve the facts for the present generation, and those yet unborn. ![]() A few months ago, I had told someone on another thread that soldiers on both sides (i.e. the federal side and the Biafran side), committed atrocities, during the war. Thank God for the anonymity of the internet. I probably would have been e-lynched that day, by the pro-Biafr.a group, despite citing a documentary evidence from different sources, to corroborate my statements. They argued that the Biafra soldiers were saintly professionals, and those statements were being made to tarnish their image. Imagine! We need more true-life stories on the civil war. There are different perspectives from every side that need to be brought to the fore. ![]() |

Kponkwem:Dem don start! It is part of the typical tactics of your people, to discard any true-life accounts by non-Igbo minorities, and wallow in self-denial. Sam Enadeghe Umweni wrote about his own personal experience, and the atrocities he witnessed inside the Biafran enclave in his book, '888 Days in Biafra,' published by iUniverse, Inc., in 2007. Yet, the proponents of propaganda are always in a hurry to dismiss his account. It is not only among Rivers people, that there were complaints of atrocities. Other non-Igbo minorities recorded the same fate. Even General Godwin Alabi-Isama in his book titled the 'Tragedy of Victory', noted that when the federal forces landed in Uyo & Calabar, they discovered one thing: "...the atrocities committed by Biafran troops on the people of Uyo and Annang were legendary." .... To drive home his point, his book contained some pictures portraying the damages caused by Biafran soldiers among the Annang and the people of Uyo. He wondered why someone would hold the 3MDCO responsible for crimes committed by Biafran soldiers. "Most of the atrocities allegedly committed by the 3MDCO, Isama insisted, were actually perpetrated by Biafran soldiers...." |

atbu1983:See this Edo man that have been restless over IPOB affairs for some months now querying a rather bonafide fellow for identifying with his State. You have tried every trick in your dictionary to attempt to quench the call for self-determination by IPOB and trump support for your wild goose chase of Niger-delta republic to no avail. How can you be trusted with such partnership when you and your elites have merely survived as saboteurs and ass-licking stooges who readily kowtow to the whims and caprices of their masters at the detriment and interest of their neighbours? Whenever you hear Biaf... that's when you'd remember your phantom Niger-delta republic and resource control. Hypocrisy! It's as if the sound of Biaf... strikes a kind of mighty tremor on your body as to cause you sudden but explosive ej*cul*tion, that's beyond measurement on the Ritchter scale. The earlier you face North or OduaArewanistan republic where you're most needed as loyal subjects the better for your survival. |

TonyeBarcanista:You can't move ahead when all parties that are involved have not sat down to talk about any deal and their differences - it's like a woman going into a marriage blind , simply with the promises of love , care and oneness. Haven't you notice the arrogance which our brothers from the SE are putting on even here on NL ? and if what they say is a true reflection of their mindset which I believe it is , then it is important for us to sit down and talk, else no deal. Any protest in Port Harcourt will not be taken lightly. And if they call it all bark and no bite then they should go ahead and declare Biafra. We are waiting. Some of them are talking about Isaac Adaka Boro in a scornful manner and taunting us about Saro Wiwa as if the 3 million Igbos that died were not humans at all but ants to them. For the sake of sanity , it is better to remain a slave than to be handed over to an unrepentant brother.May I also remind you that we also have a right to self emancipation just like they have. |

laudate:My brother, I agree there were atrocities by Biafran troops, but it has not been established on the scale the writer made it out. If substantiated as you have suggested, there are causes because of the communication gaps that existed then. Neither would I support the suggestion that the atrocities as the major factor that made Biafra to fall. Ojukwu throughout the war requested the British and UN to organise a referendum for all the minorities, the Nigerian government guided by Gowon, Awolowo and Enahoro would have non of that and Britain continued to equip the war for Nigeria. Why was Ojukwu so confident of a referendum for the so-called minorities? You will agree with me that up till today, the Igbo believe that the Nigerian and minority question can only be resolved through true federalism. If Biafra, through referendum for the Igbos and her neighbours. Let it be known that Igbo are not interested in anybody's oil. SE have enough resources and can muster billions of dollars in local and diaspora funds to take off as a free nation. Let non-Igbos never bother about being coerced into Biafra. Biafra is by choice, if you wish. This should be the major condition for any UN action on this agitation. |

Trillyonaire:Don't mind those misguided miscreants! If biafran war no.2 should happen, Nigerians won't be as forgiving as General Gowon! With that in mind, it is unimaginable how ibos will survive a second war with angry and fearless Nigerians intent on finishing what they were prevented from doing, ie, total annihilation of ibos!! So, Ibos watch it that you don't provoke a sleeping lion a second time! |

Kponkwem:Guy, please free your mind. People such as Alabo have given eye-witness accounts of what they witnessed during the war, while others have also written about it, yet you keep saying "it has not been established on the scale that the writer made out?" Are you for real??! Must you trivialise the pain of others, to make a point? As for conducting referendums, why did Ojukwu NOT conduct a referendum, before the civil war when he was sitting pretty as Governor of Eastern Nigeria?? Why did he not conduct a referendum, before the pogrom in the north, or even before he declared secession?? In my view, we all need to talk about the civil war, from the perspective of our experiences, without denigrating the next person's account of events. We need to ensure that everyone learns from history, as those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it. ![]() Before talking about federalism, we need to entrench accountability and transparency. Let all the governors be held accountable for every amount that gets into their treasury, and for every way in which it is disbursed, lest we exchange one tyranny for another. As the Scriptures say, he who is not faithful in little, cannot be faithful in much. Federalism is not a magic wand, that will cure all our ills. Back to the civil war accounts of non-Igbos. Many of them have been documented, but a lot of folks merely chose to pretend that it does not exist. Yet, we need to all tell our stories in order to preserve our history, for generations yet unborn. ![]() Chimamanda Adiche: Ethnicity has become, in Nigeria, more political than cultural, less about philosophy and customs and values, and more about which bank is a Yoruba or Hausa or Igbo bank, which political office is held by which ethnicity, which revered leader must be turned into a flawless saint. We cannot deny ethnicity. It matters. But our ethnic and national identities should not be spoken of as though they were mutually exclusive; I am as much Igbo as I am Nigerian. I have hope in the future of Nigeria, mostly because we have not yet made a real, conscious effort to begin creating a nation (We could start, for example, by not merely teaching Maths and English in primary schools, but also teaching idealism and citizenship.) |

Truth is powerful and eternal. Gowon did not allow the accurate war records to be published because it would nullify his " no Victor no vanquised" jargon. If the true records are declassified, no part of the North, Midwest and West of Nigeria would tolerate the cannibalistic, murderous and greedy Ibos in their domains. Their propagandists are trying very hard to re-write history to cover-up their sordid records. The war crimes committed by Ibos, according to records, would make the Nazis proud. |

PenSniper:You already know that you and your loud-mouthed Yoruba tribe stand for nothing. And so you're simply on a wild goose chase to quench the dream of another people. Don't let it consume you! Remember, 'Operation Wetie' of Akintola vs Awolowo, shortly after Nigeria independence where you and your fellow propagandists wet human beings with petrol and burnt them alive alongside their properties. That's was the precursor to the civil war. Remember, your Soka Evil Forest where you use your fellow human beings for ritual killings and cannibalism. Little wonder Sanusi Lamido Sanusi arrived at this verdict on you greedy parasites: "YORUBAS ARE THE PROBLEM WITH NIGERIA". Go meditate on that as you lay on your bed to sleep. |
| Re: . by YoruBanger: 1:09am On Oct 24, 2015 |
PenSniper:Guy, abeg leave matter. According to Igbo spin, the Biafran soldiers that fought the war were professional saints who could do no wrong, while the Nigerian soldiers were a stark contrast. Sadly they exhibit the exact same belief in their interactions, perceptions and dealings with other Nigerians. That explains why they keep making enemies for themselves. They just can't help it. |

They shouldn't drag Igbos into their plight! It's a world of free association. |
