The truth be told our universities don't provide the ample opportunity to be full blown graduate ,but the fact still remains you cant attribute you failures to any person accept you...

FOR EMPHASIS

Richiy:
Very true...and they are so many on this Nairaland. Worse is that they are very easy to spot. When you are half baked, it is very visible in everything you do.

If you are one, tell yourself the truth and start developing yourself. It is not too late.

You are half baked graduate if you are still involved in thuggery for politicians whose children are abroad for one thing or the other.

The point I am trying to pass isn't about mentioning all the first year courses, but that_ knowing the definition of a commercial bank isn't a prerequisite to determining a "full-baked" Banking & Finance graduate, even if he/she is expected or should know it.
Banking is just a part of it all...

That's why I ended by saying "the course is different from the everyday banking practice"
Sorry to intrude but your explanation caught my attention.

What do banking and finance student study in school for years if they don't know simple banking practices.

I won't totally agree with you dear. My ex-girl friend studied banking & finances and I go through her books sometimes when she was in school, most of the courses is related to banking and economy.

She read so many business journals related to banking and was very current with banking news. All what she needed then, was some banking experience and understand some modern banking software to build her up and understand the banking methodology better.

Idiot of the highest order.

Guilty as charged.

Are you curious if I'm a grad? Google is your friend.

Because you don't have a life, and hence result to throwing tantrums on a faceless forum to boost your deranged and myopic ego, doesn't mean everybody is like you.

You, sir, are an idiot.

Go get sense, common sense is free. undecided

You are a half baked graduate if all you think of is how to get a job and not creat an ideal that can give you a job, possibly making you a boss.

Everyday banking practice Sir, not just banking practice.

She can decide to read all the banking journals in the world, if they put her in a bank's Operations unit (that's what I meant by "everyday banking" ) , she would be just another human there.
There are units in the bank that are specialised, Operations isn't one of them.

The Ivory Tower is supposed to be a place where one is expected to be well-grounded with the ability to present oneself to the outside world in the best possible way. This is the same reason why people in the eastern parts of Nigeria refer to it as 'Mahadum' which literarily means 'Know it all'.

It is so pathetic to come to terms with the fact that the reverse is the case as can be seen in most graduates today in our society! Below are some signs to show that someone who passed through the Ivory Tower could still be a half-baked graduate! wink:

1) You can't apply the uses of the 8 Parts of Speech in speaking and writing. Some Engineering and Science graduates would tell you that this isn't important because these are not part of their course of study! What an unforgiveable fallacy!!! So what have you been doing during your primary and secondary school days? huh I know very well that 'Parts of Speech' is the foundation of English as far as the subject is concerned. So, it means you have not been serious all those years to learn the foundation of communication!!! Whether you like it or not, English is the lingua-franca in Nigeria and if you can't communicate fluently in it, you are a half-baked graduate!!!

2) You can't read beyond two pages of a book. Reading is basically one of the various ways of learning so if you can't read beyond two pages of a book, I seriously wonder how you managed to pass your courses in the university! There are graduates who complain frequently about a 20-line write-up being too lengthy to read...they are many on this forum! The truth is that you would definitely miss out on vital information if you have this character and you are no better than a half-baked graduate!!! Quote me if you like! cool

3) You studied Mechanical Engineering yet you still take your car to the mechanic workshop to change common engine oil and other little things!

4) You studied Elect/Elect, yet you can't even change as simple as a lamp holder in your house! You are a half-baked graduate!!!

5) You can't teach others! If you can't transfer the knowledge and skills you claimed to have acquired in school to others, it surely makes you a half-bakie!!! grin. If the 'illiterate' carpenter or welder can transfer his knowledge and skills to others, what stops you from doing same as an 'educated' person? huh Every graduate should have the ability to teach. You would be shocked when you see how some graduates of Political Science teach Government in the schools where they are undertaking their NYSC primary assignment! grin. Some don't even know the meaning of a constitution!

6) You are a half-baked graduate if you still lack confidence in conversing intelligently and creating relationships with fellow ambitious and enlightened graduates like you!!! Stop chasing small street girls that hawk one thing or the other and go for your class if you know you are 'good-to-go' grin

7) You are a half-baked graduate if you still cannot read and write efficiently! As funny as it sounds, some 'graduates' can't read and write as learned folks! Maybe, you need to be enrolled in Reception Class in a nursery school where you can learn the basics of reading and writing grin

8. You are a half-baked graduate if you cannot use Microsoft Word! We will forgive you if you don't know any other basics in ICT but not Microsoft Word!!! In this modern time? huh Who go type CV and edit for you? huh

9) You are a half-baked graduate if you still sit joblessly in beer parlours, enthusiastically discussing secret cult escapades you had in school while your mates are busy building their careers in Agip and Exxon Mobil!!!

10) You are a half-baked graduate if all you could do with your BlackBerry and Iphone6 is to download numerous porn movies and chat with random girls!!!

Peace! One love!!! cheesy
I usually don't quote ops word for word but with this write-up I make a-proud exemption just to re-emphasize Point No. 2 and add Point No. 11 for the Quarter-Half-Baked Graduates.

11) You are a quarter-half-baked graduate if you still carry "Nicely" written CV about looking for someone to employ you; whereas you can carry an "Awkward" Business/Project Plan in need of a synergy of resources for its implementation for the benefit of the Society as a fully-baked graduate.

Banking and Finance as a course is entirely different from secondary sch "Commerce", there is no time to teach you different types of banks there.

The course is very different from the everyday "banking practice".
Sis, are you a banking and finance graduate?

You are an half-baked graduate if you dont know the difference between or even write Business Memo and Busines Letter not to talk or Business Plan and Business Proposal.

Majority of our graduate cant write one of them I can bet it. If you are a graduate and you can write a convincing one, please prove me wrong and you have a job.

I am not trying to absolve any "half-baked graduate" o...just trying to let y'know that you would be a very nice interviewer.

Applicant: I am a Banking & Finance graduate.
You: What is a commercial bank? grin

Then you better make it easy for all your applicants, ask the Insurance graduate "what is premium?". tongue
Pls take note,Commercial banks in Nigeria are now called 'Deposit Money Banks'.

That No. 6 annoys me the most. You see a guy who supposedly claim to be a graduate and yet lacks the gut to approach a fellow graduate female counterpart and start a convo. with her. Rather, you see him running around with small small illiterate girls hawking plantains and groundnut in the street. Are you afraid of the female graduates?

Some of your points MAY apply but on a general, I think this is the view of an uninformed fellow (probably a social science graduate/student).

Ramos16:
Most of what you say a plain rubbish... what you have said simply means you have not passed through a Nigerian university, or you are a first or second year student.

I am going to scrutinize each one of your points to show you how they fail woefully

Point Number:

1) PART OF SPEECH: If I ask you how many part of speech you know and use consciously, I bet it won't be more than 3, Noun, Pronoun and maybe verbs..... This is a very useless point, can you remember how to solve quadratic equations using Completing the Square problem, or calculate the distance and time between two points on the globe using Longitude and Latitude as ref? If you can't solve it without consulting a book or the internet, then you also are halved baked cos you have been doing maths since kindergarten

2) READING: I do not think there is no graduate that "can't" read more than two pages... If they find it stressful its a whole different thing, but to say they can't because of the level of education.. well, if at all it will apply to like 0.0000000000000000001% of the graduate population.

3) and 4) MECHANICAL ENGINEERING & ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING: This is plain stupid, the fact that you can't understand that number 3 and 4 belong to the same category and should be treated as one number is dumb of you, plus this point should not apply to only those two, it should go as far as the whole possible courses offered in the university. Your lack of understanding of what goes on in the Engineering faculty can be pardoned if you are not an Engineer. Engineering goes far beyond Fixing light bulbs or fixing your own car, what do you expect of an Mech Engineer who specialized in Thermodynamics or Air Conditioning (PS: for those who don't know Air conditioning does not imply just to that your home appliance), or an Electrical Engineer who specialized in Telecommunication or Computer, I studies Electrical and Specialized in Telecoms.

If you are to make that a point, you should talk about things that are really related to that persons course, like an Electrical Engineer not being to analyze and build a circuit or a Mechanical Engineer not being able to develop a prototype for an Engineer, things are related to the actual/specific thing they have studied, I am not saying that a Nigerian graduate should know all these, because in the University in Nigeria, nobody trains you that way, so you can't blame them.

This point applies to Computer Scientist who can't write a simple program, or medical doctors who can't perform surgery, these things take time, and it is after graduation that you are expected to develop the skills..

5) Inability to Teach Others Mtchewww, Don't you have lecturers that can't teach, do you think everybody was built to teach?

6) Confidence : Confidence is a whole different skills, it is not learnt in school, it is virtue of the way an individual is brought up, its psychology.. so no point here

7) Cant' Read and Write: This point is the same as number 2)

cool Can's User MS Word: I don't know why this is a point, but I can't argue with you on this, but trust me anybody is excused if they can't use MS Word, you think say na everybody get money like your father to afford a computer?

9) Discussing in Beer Parlours: Firstly I totally love beer parlours, secondly, I believe there are cultist who are first class graduates and lecturers seff, its low of them to keep on discussing of such things, but it does not mean they are half baked.

10) Watching Porn and Chatting with girls: I do not see how the Blackberry or Iphone strengthen this argument, so I removed them, about watching porn, well I can be the CEO of Shell and watch porn and also chat with random girls, nobody grows beyond chatting with new girls.
You have a strong point man.
