Lots of half bakies in here will still justify why they have been found so unworthy both in learning and in character. ![]() |

permanentgrace:How does that make him half-baked? You don't have a point. Life is a matter of choice. He might be sewing his cloths according to his size. He mightn't have the money to finance a female graduate @ that time or might be trying to cut down cost. Watch out the same guy when he has the money, he will even go after a female medical doctor. Money has a way of building your confidence. |

God bless this OP. I know computer engineers who can't build a faulty PC even if all the PC components of are given to them with detailed description of their functions. |

jetabs:what's the purpose of a mechanical engineer if he can't troubleshoot and repair/replace the damaged parts of a machine. I blame the sch system - they are only good at theory but lack practical expertise. The wise one among the students acquire the technical skills outside the wall of the sch |

Number 4 is so dumb. Same reason I feel the Op is half baked too. We mechanical engineers should slap confused and lazy people like the Op that mechanical engineering is not all about automobiles. Am one and I hate automotive option like mad. I prefer design, refrigeration and PPC |

In fact, you just proved yourself to be worse than a half-baked graduate and an ignoramus!!! Go and learn something useful before you quote me! Orue!!! |

butanep:So to you, female graduates are all about money? How about men who are neither graduates nor rich but still date and marry these female graduates? If you are one of those guys lacking confidence to approach these ladies, i would suggest you redefine your worth. That's how you may end up marrying one of those small small girls selling plantain and groundnut in the street cos till you fall in love and impregnate them, you wont even know. Go for what you know you worth. It's all about how you present yourself. They are not hard to get. |

permanentgrace:What are you even talking? What is so special about dating a graduate. Are those ladies selling plantain and groundnut not humans like other female graduates? So because they don't have the means to attend the four wall of university, they become less human. My ex and present girl friend is a graduate. Why will I be afraid to approach a common graduate that is a human like me. I have in one way or the other eyed a lady selling akara in my street and that does not make me less or lack confidence to approach even a PhD holder. This certificate issue is over-rated in nigeria jorr. What your graduate girl-friend will give to you sexually, that akara girl can also give you even in excess. Everyone has what he is looking for in a woman. If I see such quality in a banana girl seller, I will approach her and polish her to become like that graduate girl. Some graduates you are talking about were once banana and akara seller. It's just a matter of chance. |

Rapmoney:yeah, exactly my point why you are a fool, cos my post is filled with grammatical errors doesn't mean that I am half baked.. believe whatever you will, I have said exactly what I had in mind, and I bet if your skill set and mine are compared it will be like 1:100, and trust me I am not exaggerating here....... Find yourself a life and stop trying to make people feel bad about themselves, fool Also bro, the Grammatical errors on my post are virtue of the fact that I am human, rather than my level of education, and typos can be made by anybody, not to boast I have a typing speed of about 60 WPM (words per minute) on a PC, I doubt you can type 8WPM, fool Even if it were that my level of education is so low that I cannot construct proper grammar/Sentence, well bro, English no be my papa language and I am very much excused, abi you think say Dangote sabi English like that? fool |

Rapmoney: Lolz. Rapmoney I no blame you. But seriously try to do some research on what it means to be an engineering graduate ok. In the engineering profession there are different expectations for your training and education which are not immediately obvious to the uninformed. University engineering graduates are in essence trained in fundamental engineering theories to understand the principles of how things work most importantly and first of all.So to put it in perspective, Your mechanical engineering graduate is taught about the fundamental principles of how mechanical systems work generally and not the specifics(He learns the specifics by going for advanced courses or during training or on the job,At this point he is known as an engineer in training and in countries like Nigeria is not yet qualified to be designated as an Engineer till after 4 years of such learning period. So simply put, a Mechanical Engineering graduate in Nigeria is just someone who has been imparted fundamental and generic knowledge and needs to further learn through relevant experience and training).A university engineering graduate is actually not expected to be practical oriented in the sense in which you are applying it (repairing motor vehicles in this case). The primary expectation on him is his ability to use numbers, formulas ,codes standards and best practices to resolve problems or propose improvements to systems .Take careful note of this. You should also know that in Engineering there are different levels of responsibility and hierarchy 1.The university engineering graduate is at the top of this hierarchy and makes designs and decisions based on engineering principles calculations, laws, codes and standards. He is the de-facto head and supervisor of all the others 2.The Technician is usually a polytechnic grad who is trained to practically apply the engineering knowledge generated by the Engineer to build maintain and operate engineering systems.(He can perform repairs on your vehicle if that is his field) 3.The craftsman is a skilled worker that does specialized manual tasks such as a plumber , fitter, Mechanic etc(He should be the one to change your bulb if an electrical craftsman or service your vehicle if an automobile mechanic). It is also important for you to know that being a Mechanical Engineer means a billion and one things. There are over 20 different branches of mechanical engineering ranging from fluid mechanics to thermodynamics to tribology to Mechanics to nanotechnology to mechatronics to robotics to automobile technology etc etc. So a lot of times , the guy that introduces himself to you as a mechanical engineer is actually specialized in something seemingly abstract to you and knows only a little about automobiles through his professional training (and even the stuff he knows relates to how to design its systems and how they work rather than how to change oil filter or any other maintenance service procedure). Also important for you to note is that there is a difference between a mechanical engineer ,an automobile engineer , a mechanic an automobile mechanic. They are not all the same. An automobile engineer is basically a mechanical engineer trained in the theory and design of automobiles.Their job is to design bigger better, faster and more efficient vehicles along with developing better ways of operating and maintaining such vehicles. A mechanic refers to any trained craftsman or worker who carries out maintenance repairs on Machinery in general,so he could be a generator mechanic, train mechanic etc.An automobile mechanic or automotive mechanic is a skilled craftsman that maintains automobiles. So my learned colleague,I agree with you that it is a good thing to be able to change your light bulb and service your car,but it isn't the right criteria to judge an engineering degree .Lets do everything within the illumination of relevant facts. And we must also be willing to accept positive criticism and learn as this is also the mark of a "fully baked Graduate" |

eblazer:I would like to strongly disagree with you on this point. The Nigerian universities give you the fundamentals you need to be an accomplished graduate of your field. The only area where I fault them is in the area of practicals, research and contemporary knowledge. So in my own humble opinion, look at studying in Nigerian universities as a golden opportunity to study very hard- at the end you will be amazed that you can compete anywhere in the world with the fundamentals you have learnt; but you may have to seek to learn the extras yourself from the internet or from other professionals and networking. As proof of this, let me ask you a question-why do Nigerian graduates do so well abroad when they go to work or study to the extent that they become the best in their field or valedictorians? The simple answer is that they have been armed with the basic relevant knowledge while in Naija Universities. So its all about the attitude of our country generally.Nowadays secondary school students who have no responsibilities of any kind still cannot pass WAEC but buy their results. Why?is it that the curriculum has changed? No , the curriculum has not changed, but the people have changed and they try to blame that decline on many things except their lack of study discipline. |
