Good morning nairalanders this is an excerpt from an old thread showing that bonny people are ibos just a slight difference in their language with igbo.
From observation this argument has been on since 2009 on many forums.
Tonye barcanister you are making me go crazy with your unverifiable claims that ndokis are not igbos. I want to believe that you're from one of the kalabari speaking regions including abonemma, buguma, degema, bakana etc.
I grew up in Rivers state so i know for sure that ndokis, bonny people are igbo speaking tribes with slight difference in their grammatical meanings.
I hail from AkS (AKWA IBOM) and i know some regions in akwa ibom are linked to old greek and isreal.
There is even a forum on facebook that tells and proves that their traditions and festivals are similar to that of ibo. And i want to challenge you to move into any ndoki land and bring with you proof and evidence that they are otherwise.

Bonny is a town in the Nigerian Niger Delta. It is known for it’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal. But what many don’t know is that the most indigenes of that town are descendants of Igbos who would have been sold into slavery, had it not been for Olaudah Equiano’s campaign against the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
The Igbos who settled in Bonny developed a new dialect called Bonny Igbo. In fact, the first bible ever published in Igbo was printed in the Bonny Igbo dialect.
Bonny is also famous for being the place where Jaja of Opobo, an Igbo slave from Amaigbo, in today’s Imo State, first rose to prominence. He later led is followers to form the neihbouring kingdom of Opobo.
One of the most famous Bonny families today is the Jumbo family, which is descended from Oko Jumbo, another enterprising Igboman who was Jaja’s strongest rival in Bonny.

thought I have said all I needed to say on Biafra, but the recent pro Biafra demonstration following the arrest of radio Biafra owner, and the high handed and disproportionate response of the federal government of Nigeria has forced me to revisit the issue.
I am Igbo and I make no apologies for my views about Nigeria. I am also first and foremost a human being. I love and cherish my Igbo and Nigerian identities, and would never exchange nor deny them.
However, my human identity surpasses my ethnic or national identities. I cannot support Igbos or Nigerians, if they are, being unfair, unreasonable, dishonest or violating fundamental rights of other human beings, irrespective of what I think of their victims and or their ethnic and religious identities because my loyalty is first and foremost to my humanity. The value I put on my human identity is greater than my ethnic and or national identities. I learnt from the Bible that God made then many nations of one blood.
Therefore, looking at the Nigerian dilemma, I do not see the solution in ethnic nationalism of the type being agitated for by those who want Nigetia to break into its ethnic nations. This is for the additional reason that the Nigerian problem is a human problem, which will follow any ethnic nation, which seceded from Nigeria, if a human solution is not first found within Nigeria. Corruption, prejudice, ignorance, disregard of the rule of law and violation of human rights are not ethnic problems. Therefore, why should the solution reside in breaking up of Nigeria?
There is no doubt that Igbos have genuine grievance against the Nigerian government. We have been systematically discriminated against and marginalised by successive Nigerian governments. Igbo land have been deliberately denied investments that would enhance its economic take off. Existing investments in Igbo land have been deliberately run down by the refusal of the successive federal government of Nigeria, including that of Goodluck Jonathan, to make the infrastructure investment necessary for their survival.
The Old Imo state is the only state in Nigeria that built its own airport from the contributions of the people. The Enugu, Calabar and port Harcourt airports have been deliberately down graded by denying them the type of status and investment Lagos, Kano and Abuja airports have enjoyed.
When Obasanjo was elected president in 1999, his first policy was to close Calabar and Port Harcourt seaports, thereby forcing the ports to be run down so that only the Lagos seaport can function.
Aba/Ikot Ekpene road is a federal highway connecting the people of Cross River and Akwa Ibom to Igbo Land and to Lagos. For the past 30 years, successive Nigerian governments, including that of Goodluck Jonathan have refused to rehabilitate the road because it would benefit Igbo States.
The Obasanjo's administration created a Niger Delta Ministry, whose main job was to build roads that alienated Igbo Land. They built East-West road that connects Akwa Ibom to Abuja and the A121 Highway that connects Akwa Ibom State to Lagos. The Nigerian government has money to build news roads outside Igbo speaking areas, but allow federal roads in Igbo land to decay.
Re: Tonye Barcanister Ndokis, Bonny Are Tight Ibo Tribes by john124(op): 12:01pm On Oct 27, 2015
On Tuesday, 21st October 2015, president Buhari performed groundbreaking ceremony in Calabar to build a 268 kilometre Superhighway connecting Calabar-Ikom-Kastina-Ala, that would not connect the Igbo States.
There is no attempt by the federal government of Nigeria at even development and this is rightly seen as unfair by Igbos.
In many states of Nigeria like Lagos and Ondo, Igbo traders are subjected to punitive and discriminatory taxes. We recently experienced the closing down of the Mushin market built by Igbos, deportation of Igbos from Lagos, the threat by Oba of Lagos to throw Igbos into the lagoon, Dr Abraham Ariyo asking his friend, when the killing of Igbos in Lagos will begin and the latest economic discrimination against Igbos in Ondo state by imposition of a punitive and discriminatory tax on their businesses.
Igbos are often treated as aliens in their own country. Since independence there has been pogroms against them in North Nigeria. Boundaries of Igbo States were redrawn and oil wells belonging to Igbo States ceded to none Igbo speaking States and the Igbo names of the towns and villages changed. For instance, in Rivers state Obi Igbo became Oruigbo and umukrusu(children of Krusu) became Rumukrusu all in effort to marginalise Igbos.
The 2004 World Bank record of the list of loans Nigeria had taken shows that since 1958, 96% of the loans were used for projects in the Northern Nigeria,
3% went for projects in Yoruba Land and only 1% was spent on a project in Igbo States. Not surprising, the Central Bank of Nigeria has different figures from World Bank. Further more, it is estimated that over $5 billion of those loans were still with the World Bank and never made it to Nigeria.
Since Nigeria's independence from Britain, the federal government of Nigeria has been under-counting Igbos and Yoruba population to the benefit of the Hausas and fulanis. Even though Igbos are everywhere in Nigeria, they are given a figure that is almost half of their real population. The fact is that Igbos make up a far significant population of Nigeria than the federal government is ready to admit. East Nigeria is among the most densely populated part of the world and the region has very high birth rate. The list of the grievances of Igbos is endless and these are the reasons why many have decided that their future lies in Biafra.

Clown. The Bonny language is Ibani, has nothing similar with igbo. They only speak that version of igbo in the ancient capital city of Bonny kingdom because Bonny people sold igbo slaves to the white man, and being a cruel trade, they had to learn the igbo language (to speak with and before the slaves) and conceal their own language from the slaves so they could make bargains over them at will without the slaves comprehension.

Name one Bonny person with an Igbo name. The Ndoki's sold you to Bonny people as slaves. Slavery was your relationship with the town (except for instances where your masters decided to give you your freedom) now your thieving soul continues this self-destructive smear on yourselves by trying to steal in broad daylight. Like a man bathing on the streets at noon, convinced it is 2:00am and that no one is seeing.

I attach below for your viewing pleasure the interaction between myself and another nairalander like yourself. It explains your situation

NOBLEDANDY:
Do you know portharcourt rivers is Igbo territory??
coolscott:
Clearly, fraudulence remains encoded in your blood and it is a spiritual thing
Read below a post from some days ago explaining your situation which you are apparently gleefully unaware of and simply because the lack of historical depth in your region causes you not to connect to your ancient history like other people, and indeed, you are not aware of how deep in history other ethnic groups have had their systems established so you do not appreciate how much of a ridicule you make of yourselves when you apply local Igbo land-stealing techniques to try to steal other peoples' lands, when you do not even belong to their ethnic groups.
coolscott:
Igbos might have been a majority in terms of number of people, but when it came to political strength, igbos have been the minority of the minorities.

Igbos should keep quiet when other political entities are speaking.

There was no Igbo nation in the past. If it existed, where was its military?

What territory was its military responsible for protecting?

Without territorial integrity, there is no nation and this historical "no nation" situation was brought about about by the fact that Igbo people did not have it in them to foster political structures beyond the village or clan levels.

That is why you never heard of the igbo military or anything of that sought. But you would hear of many inter-village wars (or inter-clan wars) between Igbo settlements. That was the reach of their capacity to create political units.

So when we ancient south-south (and indeed south-west) kindgoms with dynasties spanning centuries speak, I expect igbos to be quiet. Igbos are the real minorities ethnically, when it comes to things that matter. And maybe that is why they relentlessly misbehave all over Nigeria. Civilisation does not run deep in them hence the complete non-existence of ethnic decorum.
coolscott:
If you only knew the shame of these things you are doing. If you could only appreciate the sincerity with which other ethnic groups disrespect you for your terrible misbehaviour.

Sure, I am from the south-south and have Bonny relatives. Bonny chiefs must still have slave manifestos in their ancient files, books and records. Their advancement in terms of civilisation started too early because they had to interact/do business with the white man.

You cannot wish what you wish was your history into reality. It is sad that people in the capital city of Bonny kingdom speak that odd version of igbo but how that came to be cannot also be swept away. Attached is an academic article from the guardian, stating these facts.

The writer tried to be as unbiased as possible and I do respect him for that

The Igbo in the Atlantic slave trade became one of the main ethnic groups enslaved in the era
lasting between the 16th and late 19th century.
Located near indigenous Igbo territory, the Bight of Biafra (also known as the Bight of Bonny)

if u read any article on slave trade in Bight of biafra(bonny),u will not see anything like Ibani,Ijaw etc only igbos,Igbos,Eboes and Ibos. Bonny people are truely a subgroup of Igbos.

Your version of cowardice is a unique and pathetic one.
You are Truth or Reality Cowards. When confronted with a truth your puny minds do not like, you bury your head in the self-created sand of the delusion that the opinion airer is Yoruba.

Sorry please, because as you bury your head in the sand of that delusion, the rest of your body (especially your behind) is up in the air for everyone to see your folly. Whenever you choose to take your heads outta the sand, the rest of the world will still be there to help you adjust to the reality you thought your sand would erase.

My grandfather was a wealthy transporter in the east (Aba to be precise). He owned the first ever transport company in Aba. He also was a palm oil plantation owner with vast palm plantations which produced palm oil for export.

His son, my uncle, told me that when he would drive them as children with his land rover to the farm to do whatever they could with the workers on the farm, Naked Ngwa villages would be running after them shouting, "Oyibo, oyibo!" because they were light skinned and had the luxury of a land rover.

The point to note here is that they were mostly naked. With only some patches of rafia to cover them. This was in the early 1950s

The further point I am trying to make here is that when it came to being developed and civilized, you guys only started yesterday. Only as far back as the 40s and 50s you were still moving around naked and I will attach proof here.

Now you do not appreciate the orderliness of keeping records (socio-historic records). Your villages did not read/write from a leadership level, which was absent or rag tag. Nor do you place any respect-worthy amount of value of reading the recorded facts.

Now if the facts were different from what I have stated here, you would have known the full details of your history. You would have read it. You would have know the details that led to the existence of Jaja of Opobo. How Ajayi Crowther arrived Nigeria after leaving on a slave ship, etc. I was made to read these things in my early teens because true social education runs in us.

Now that is why I can understand when you say how can you believe the author is not biased. You see, you do not read and have no counter reference point comparing the author's writing to which you may lay claim to the author's writing being inaccurate or false. You have the one thing your kind go by - the imaginations of your mind influenced by delusions of grandeur relative to other peoples.

This is one thing nairaland has been good for. Allowing for information to be brought to us all. Letting us get educated about stuff we might never have become informed about (even though some choose, like the proverbial ostrich, to bury faces in the sand in trying to escape realities they do not like).

Below is an excerpt from the same writer and on the same page as he gives us an insight as to the states of Igbos in Enugu in 1947. You will notice that he is not really talking them down, but is trying to highlight how fast they improved from the state they were in in 1947
