Every highlighted points are very important
When i graduated college, I did not know anybody nor had connections but, here's what i did. I bought a row of envelopes, a stack of stamps, writing sheets, stapler etc. Then i made sure my cigarette money was diverted to buying Guardian every tuesday. I applied for any and everything under the sun. I did this for three months straight. This is where the laws of probability comes into play. Out of maybe fifty applications maybe one will be positive if you are lucky. Needless to say i got a job four months after graduating. It wasn't a great job but it got me out of my parents house and i began building a proper resume. I kept applying and a year later, i got a job with BAT. This was many years ago. My friends were still trying to look for Man Know Man connections. The OP said;

1 Lack Of Professional Connections: i have already explained a way around that.

2 Lack Of Talent Identification: whatever that means. But, majority of people don't usually like their jobs. Your talent does not mean shiit when it comes to earning a living. You do what you must to survive, period. Believing too much in that will lead you to picking and choosing which jobs you will accept. This contradicts the fourth point.

3 Lack Of Experience: you gain experience by getting a job. Any job.

The average Nigerian graduate is lazy and delusional. It's unfortunate that while still in the university, the groom themselves for white collar jobs such that they would reject any offer to go dirty with works because they are 'B.Sc holders'. It pains me that even the so called engineering students will channel all their attentions towards maintaining a high G.P so that they can use them in hunting for jobs. Noone is talking innovation and creativity, all leaving in dreamland to work in Shell.
thats how the country has moulded the minds of graduates...reason why you have all geniuses working in shell, mobil, chevron and addax etc wasting away...whilst i might blame graduates i think the greater blame should be directed to our useless government that has abandoned young minds to struggle and think only about money and not innovation...our government is a disease to us....imagine landmarks we could have created in the field of aeronautical engineering, medicine, space science, mining technology, electrical and power engineering etc if only our government had a little sense...now it is all about oil and gas,...thats where it ends...

1.    Lack Of Professional Connections

For a fresh graduate, it is not often easier to find valuable contacts to recommend a job or get recommended. This is absolutely okay if you have just passed out of university and searching for employment. But, if it is your tenth attempt for a job and you still have no connections, then you are not taking this issue seriously. A valuable connection not only guides you in right direction but also helps you step into a job easily. Employers are followers of technology. They are in a constant search for a common connection that can fit in a vacant position in his organisation.
Use social sites, such as LinkedIn, to capture attention of industry-specific professionals in order to gain professional mileage. When you are socially visible on these online spheres, you magnify your visibility. Ultimately, you are in reach of a prospective employer who shares common interests with you.

2.    Lack Of Talent Identification

Majority of fresh graduates blindly follow a field without first realising their own potential. Having a degree in ‘marketing’ does not necessarily mean that you cannot pursue a career in film direction. You can definitely do it if you have the passion in visual art and really think you can make a name in this field.
If you are excellent in something, it is meaningless to question its relevancy with your degree. Talent is not measured by degrees and certificates. It is an unquantifiable thing that is beyond parameters of worldly norms. Just take initiative and follow your dream. It is never too late to find your passion. It is just a matter of time and place.

3.    Lack Of Experience
Fresh graduates often do not have any practical experience of work. The lack of experience interrupts their job application and causes a significant delay in their employment.
If you have just passed your graduation and does have any previous experience, it is natural for an employer to not give you priority for a job. However, there are other more important things in your career portfolio that you can make up with your inexperience. As a starter, you can show your previous on-job training programs or internships that you have completed in your trade. You can even demonstrate your specific life experiences that make you perfect candidate for a job, if this is the case.

4.    Graduates Are Too Choosy About Their Jobs
Nowadays, graduates are too choosy about the job they pick. They expect the best salary figure, ideal location, flexible working hours and lenient work environment. When graduates demand so much perks and benefits, they end up losing an opportunity that could benefit them in the long run. Ultimately, they deprive themselves of the larger benefits that they could have availed in terms of professional exposure and career profile.
When you land a job interview, consider it as an opportunity to streamline your career success. Do not think about that mundane ‘zeros’ in salary or the trivial benefits. At this stage of your career, you should focus more on skills and professional experience that you can gain from an opportunity. Look into the professional values that an organisation has to offer you rather than salary package that will not do any good at this stage

Re: 4 Costly Mistakes Why Fresh Graduates Remain Unemployed by damose12(m): 11:46am On Nov 02, 2015
The reason for not getting a job may be different for many graduates. Some will blame their poor result, some d bad government while others may blame their parents for not giving them money to start up biz. For me d blame is on d unemployed graduate
1. Accept any job @ all you see around that can help u get experience & possibly put some change in ur pocket
2. Start up a biz (company) if u have d money
3. If no 1&2 are not possible which is always d case, then look for a skill u hav passion for & learn. Learn d skill very well as a graduate so that u will be a professional on d field......6months or 1yr is enough depending on d field & ur ability after which u become d boss & employer.
........I am presently into no 3 & it is making sense 2 me. It will keep u busy & opportunity 2 meet pple which may help u get work

The more politicians cart away billions overseas, the more the unemployment because the laundered money deziani alone stole is enough to build 500 state of the art companies in the 36 states that Will employ at least not less than 90,000graduates and these politicians can have a peaceful retirement and not be in jail while abled bodied men are employed.

You see the it's a win win situation. But we nigerians like feeling na we smart pass.every other person is foolish

Choosy?
I don't want to see the graduate who will settle for less after
the acquired experience.
Would you jump at a job paying 40k monthly just because of being employed?
Lol.... 40k and you are complaining. Done of us collected less than that immediately after service under internships, gained experience and broke into bigger and better jobs.
You can only be choosy if at the initial stage you have enough experience and and value to offer which many can't boast of.
Graduates need to understand that there is a time for peanuts and a time for large cakes, if you target the latter without bending down to pick the former, may stay hungry for a very long time except if you are favored miraculously by God.

Well, that is a matter of choice. If the biz you do is giving you a satisfactory earning compare to a salary job elsewhere. You've got to make the right choice. But I can advice, you have two options where you can generate income e.g. Continue with your business, use you salary job to service it until the two become steady

Some graduates are the cause of their predicaments. You can imagine a graduate not being able to construct a good sentence. Some can't even defend their results when they're given the opportunity of a job interview. Most of we youths just want a stress-free and high paying job, we don't want to work for it. And where there is no pain, there can't be gain. It breaks my heart when I see blunders committed by graduates after spending four-five years in the university or in the polytechnic as the case may be. Meanwhile, some graduates are out there that really worked to get their certificates but they are still on the streets job-hunting, I just want to implore as much as that are on nairaland to remain focused and not lose hope. Very soon, things will turn out fine and all laments about unavailability of jobs will be gone in a second.

I think the best solution to the issue of unemployment is simple....contrary to ur "Nigerian graduates being lazy and choosy", there are millions of graduates out there whovare ready to work but can't find the damn job. So avail these guys the opportunity b4 U come here and judge.

The major reason is lack of good communication skills. If you can't speak well and communicate impeccably,no matter who you are or what you carry, you will miss a lot in life....not jobs alone!
Re: 4 Costly Mistakes Why Fresh Graduates Remain Unemployed by delpee(f): 8:47pm On Nov 02, 2015
Those who read this thread and are willing to learn from it will not regret the time spent.
It's wise to add lack of good communication skills as number 5.

Sadly I've had to correct so many job application letters....poor construction, wrong spellings etc. Sometimes one wonders how some got their WASC not to mention degrees!

High expectation is a major problem too. That's number 4. Start small and build up experience over the years. I've seen fresh graduates who insist on a minimum of 150k package for starters! The reality is that most employers regard the first six months (minimum) as a training period so the pay is poor. Those who are wise will seize the opportunity to get trained and improve their CV while others are worsening their situation by waiting for a dream job to manifest.

Wise job seekers should befriend and visit vendors/libraries to read newspapers and copy job adverts for immediate response. I know people who got good jobs this way. Someone posted the same thing earlier. Those inclined towards self employment can volunteer to work with those on the chosen field and learn if they can't afford to pay for regular training.

In summary, a desperate situation requires out of the box thinking. Always remember that God will bless your efforts only when you try.
