Nedu09:That's the difference I tried to point out on the other thread they compared Enugu with Port Harcourt. In Port Harcourt all major Roads have underground drainage and all major estates the level of Enugu's Liberty too. Those things do matter. |

Truly Enugu state should cash in now on tourism because the state has so many tourism potentials and attractive centres... Take the beautiful hills and escarpment for example, cable cars can be constructed on them like that in Obudu. The state has beautiful lacustrine areas, take the Nsukka cultural zone for example, no body would believe that there is constellation of lakes around the Opi axis of Nsukka, even some as large as the one in Agulu... The state govt can develope that place by building wonderful holiday resort around the area... The place is the around the new Enugu-Opi Nsukka road. I myself became aware of this amazing site, after my course mate went there on field work, and brought beautiful pictures that he took there... Maybe when I get back to school and He is still with the pictures I will upload them here. |

ezeagu:I know! I have been doing a loooot of studying ![]() India was the darling, mysterious colony that the British wanted as their "pet"...so they treated it as such, created an exotic holiday spot for when they got bored of life in GB....hence the structures, all the cricket lawns, even the supervised split of the original colony into the Muslim and Hindi countries...etc....in effect, India was/is their beloved colony, in whom they were/are well pleased Not so the "dark place" with the people as was described by Mr Lugard and others, SMH The series of merges and manipulations which culminated into the colony named by Flora Shaw as Nigeria was met with a lot of scepticism, and reluctance by the British...much like in a, "oh but we already have a working colony where we even go to play cos we have set it up real nice....what do we need in another colony which, heavens forbid/bless the poor area is very hot and dark"? In short, they did not need NigeriaBut something came up and well..... it turned out that there was something that could spark up interest in an otherwise hopeless "petting" adventure.....black wealth...petroleum, ....and then timber, and cocoa, and coal, and columbite, and many many other things....and recently, human resources/manpower The foundation, guiding principles(if any) and ethos of this country is a travesty, I must say It has got to be split for it to gain any consciousness, pride and truth... Only then can love and patroitism ever live in this place..legally It already exists bigtime but the people recognise that not, cos they have been made to feel Biafra is the enemy ....but then, I digress Summary, India was the darling....Nigeria was the ?maga Chai |

Nnamdi Kalu really making lots of impact in Igboland. I was extremly happy and proud hearing the handsome Enugu dude on the video below mentioning Chukwu okike Abiama in his prayers.. This is how it should be in Africa and all over Black nations. I can bet my life that lack of patriotism is one of the Major causes of chronic Corruption in Africa -- our adopted values are incompatible with our way of life. Only very few Africans will be willing to defend and die for these borrowed values for the fact they aren't original or developed by us. Humans tend to cherish and defend with their lives what they suffer to create and Not what is imported and imposed on them by local dictators and foreigners. We need to create our own values,we need to be original and most importantly we must make sure these values grow and evolve with time.God Bless Igboland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adKD0zAekoo&app=desktop |

Hi all Is anyone else bothered about sound pollution, i.e, noise in Enugu? Surely we all know how noise can elevate BP, hinder recovery after, or aggravate conditions like stress and stroke? Can cause temporary and or permanent deafness....can just about reduce life expectancy? Like, the blares from megaphones used by transport people, CD sellers, churches and street preachers just about drive me crazyBut apart from my need for peace, it is actually medically harmful to health, noise that is I do not know if we have any laws in this state against noise? For one, I would shut down noise...totally... if I was in government Noise is really sound pollution....people are not likely to enter a church just because they know how to shout prayers.....not more likely to buy music from noisy shops....the tragedy is that most people do not know that noise is a killer Noise....is my pet peeve right now...because mmili ayi agbawago small small....every third day now...heard it will soon get back to normal ![]() Mkpotu ajoka biko |

milychocs:The truth is it shouldn't be an issue what the British built and didn't, but they were using money made by Nigeria so it was stealing. Maybe it's true, they weren't planning on setting up a permanent colony or home like in other more 'temperate' environments (to them) so they just didn't do anything, and maybe 'Nigerians' were not going to have that anyway. |

christejames:Yes, you are right. Enugu is ripe to explore tourism as a resource generator. But, The trick is how to get the tourists into Enugu, drive them to the locations and get them safely back on the plane to get home. For a tourist that has never been to Enugu and probably does not speak English nor Igbo, their biggest fear from coming is where will i find the hotel, what will i eat, how will i be safe? etc You can bridge this obstacle by using tour agencies located in their countries which are organizing holidays abroad for a total fee paid up front. The use of tour arrangement agencies in their native countries working with Enugu state tourism board and major hotels in Enugu to work out details together. Millions of tourists are willing to visit Enugu for a week's vacation are told that it will cost $5,000 dollars for their airfare, hotel accommodation in Enugu and local transportation to the key tourist areas. They only need to pay for their meals while in Enugu. These tour agencies will also work with Ethiopian airlines to help these tourists board a flight to Addis Ababa from their local countries and are transferred to the Enugu flight once they reach Addis Ababa. The state government will work with major hotels in Enugu approved to participate in this program to provide 2 or 3 police escorts for the bus driving these tourists around. many countries in Africa do this very well and it supports their national economy.

ezeagu:I hope you got my point... I was not even commending or longing for the darling colony...at all The whole colonial business makes me gag Just that in some cases, the colonialisation was done half-heartedly...making it look even more like the looting it was With less need to please the people....just slapping very different people together, manipulating them, taking stuff, and then more stuff from the place.....and then currently, neo-colonialism in its many forms The insult is too much To prove to you that I do not admire darling colonies/protectorates, of whatever country ...Namibia and South Africa with their heavy oyibo presence/ legacies are the African countries I am least likely to visit, or live in,...ever... |

milychocs:I got what you meant, I was just trying to expand on the reasons for not investing. Like you said, they invested in India because they sought to live there, while the climate in Nigeria wasn't for them. I'm also saying that the nature of west Africans maybe or their culture (in terms of resistance) made it more undesirable to them. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by christejames(m): 8:45pm On Nov 07, 2015 |
ChimaAdeoye:you are absolutely right about driving the tourists round the tourist centres... Last time I watch a documentary on how a Cape Town tourist agency cater for the needs of the tourists which also included conveying them in a customized open roof bus (the kind found in London) to places of interest within the city, even this week I watch one almost thesame for Nairobi... These two cities have one thing in common, which is tourism; boosting their economy. Our state ministry of culture and tourism really needs to wake up from their slumber, and have a reconnaissance trip to these cities and others to find out how they did there... Your plan is really wonderful, I suggest you send something like a memo or so, to the state's website under the ministry (if they have opinion box) because that website is constantly updated. |

christejames:I have indeed visited Kenya from USA with other family members and was received at the airport driven around exactly as i explained. They even organized a small plane trip to an isolated airstrip in the middle of their national reserve safari. So, it is a system i experienced first hand and i know it works well. Which we can very easily copy from, if we are serious about making it easier for willing tourists to visit. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by christejames(m): 9:22pm On Nov 07, 2015 |
ChimaAdeoye:...that's beautiful, then the govt has no excuse to give. We want our tourist centres to be given a total overhaul... |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Cjrane2: 10:36pm On Nov 07, 2015 |
ChimaAdeoye:Good job Chima. I had proposed same thing a while ago. Our people erroneously think tourism is something that happens by some chance. I always asked who amongst my friends will voluntarily go buy a plane ticket to colombia for tourism, if they couldn't speak the language, knowing that foreigners are routinely kidnapped and sodomized until their family paid the huge ransom or they will be finally killed? Nobody wants to do it. but they will voluntarily visit colombia if a tourist agency here in nigeria organized the tour and arrange their hotels and transportation inside colombia, with an added guarantee of 24 hours police protection from the colombian state government. It is the same way with tourists trying to visit Nigeria. if you help them out with those logistic issues and guarantee their safety, they will come in droves. |
