Shut up,you,Ben Bruce and your ilks should borrow common sense if you all lack one.

The election has come and gone, useless and stupidd hate filled comments like yours won't change anything.

If MTN can't pay the fine, you with them can go and die.

Hmmm! is it mere coincidence or a case of political witch hunt that two South African based firms MTN & Stanbic IBTC are incurring the wrath of the Nigerian Govt? I actually find it hard to believe that of the four major telcos in Nigeria, only MTN Nigeria 'allegedly' defaulted in disconnecting unregistered or not properly registered lines and to slam them with a ridiculous fine at a time like this makes it more suspicious.

Well, I know this will be sorted out in no time as soon as both govts resolve their differences. In the meantime, it will interest you to know that MTN has acquired visafone and have renewed their operating license for another 5 years.
Watch out for LTE sooooooooooon cheesy cheesy

[b]How can this dimwit compare America, British, China, and other developed country policies with Nigeria's?? That shows symptoms of half education which is even dangerous than being an illiterate.

In Nigeria, the competition is slightly above duopoly with only 2 major players in the industry and other hangers on. Comparison with countries with perfect competition is wrong and naive.

The action of the NCC is bound to chase away investors. Do they want to tell us that GLO met all the requirements? Kayode should shut up and not show his ignorance when tested business men talk. Business is not twitter.

Those countries he mentioned there are lots of competition going on there. They don't even require much regulations to sit up. The market does that for them. We should be more worried about the failure of Nigerian business men to successfully compete with foreign brands in our own country. Same case with HITECH some years back that secured the rights for premiership broadcast. ... 2 years down the line the company went defunct. Due to mismanagement.

Give or take MTN has done much and contributed to the growth of the telecoms industry in Nigeria. If we had only GLO from time immemorial we might just have been back to writing letters and sticking with NITEL. Giving such hefty fine, although meant to serve as a deterrent, it's heavy handed especially in an industry where the competition is weak.

A lawmaker fuming against application of the law of the land. It's even worse he is sitting at the upper chamber. The Ben Bruce guy is a joke and has joined Jonathan to make the quality of education of Bayelsans more suspicious.

The law regulating the SIM card issues prescribes 200,000 Naira fine per SIM, yet he has not told us how NCC misapplied the law.

Genuine investors are more comfortable in an environment where the rule of law reigns supreme as that that is the best guarantee to their investment not the lawless jungle Senator Bruce in promoting.

And yes we will compare ourselves to ÚS/UK as we copied their legal system wholesale, we only failed so far in its proper application.

In your Solomon wisdom, MTN can make you homeless, as long as they invest in Nigeria they made billions each year?
If they leave, it becomes an opportunity for others, especially domestic ones.

Mr Kayode, shut up. This action by the NCC, though just, has the slight capability of having a boomerang effect on the Nigerian economy, by displacing and distorting the view of Nigeria, in the eye of foreign investors. Every action in this life, has a positive and negative effect. Though there are many positives, all Mr Bruce is asking, is for the NCC, to also look at the negatives, weigh it against the positives, before passing final judgement. Just because we want to feel important, doesn't mean we should cut off the foot, to spite the face. Mr Kayode learn a bit of common sense
you should be the one to learn a bit of common sense. why did other network providers abided by the rule? Do you know that two of the numbers used to contact Falae family when he was kidnapped belong to MTN which are not registered? Thereby sabotaging FG efforts of fighting terrorism and kidnapping. You can't break the least of South Africa laws and get away with it.
They should pay.
Next it will be those oil companies flaring gas and spilling oil on our water.

Losing jobs at some point is parts and parcel of capitalism. It's no peculiar to Nigeria especially with a their single track crude oil economy.
You people should get real. A company in UK shed 8k jobs last month alone.

Letting MTN get away will criminal business practice will send a signal to other investors that Nigeria is not a lawful place to invest their money.

Don't be deceived. Investors will always go to where they are assured of maximum profit. MTN broke the rules and the penalty of such was already known when the rules were set up. We dont need criminals coming in under the name investors and start disobeying our laws. Such is not done from wherever they are coming from?
Besides, who told u glo isn't competing well with MTN?

For Stanbic IBTC, the CBN has already exonerated them and told FRC that they will not be penalised has instructed. It was the FRC that was poking her nose on what she ought not to.

The former President of SA Thabo Mbeki once spoke of African Renaissance, from economical point of view that means Africans need to learn to trade with themselves. We have a lot in this continent the only problem is that we all need to have one view. I'm not defending but MTN has broken Nigerian laws then its ok to issue a fine but $5.2 billion ( $1 million x 5000) is way too much. I'm so disappointed that there are some of our Nigerian brothers who sing China and USA over SA, while MTN, Shoprite and DSTV were the beginning of this renaissance and the era of SA buying all its oil from Nigeria and other African countries. I know its a long process or a small step but that is what we need rather than these fights. MTN needs to sit down with the NCC and settle this matter even it takes some months, because African countries are very young to rip each other apart. Its very sad for African to celebrate this.

Whether is too much or not is debatable expecially considering its impact to our National security and the law can be updated but not until Mtn pays up this fine first.
MTN can't claim ignorance of this in the first place yet they choose to deliberately contravene such. Their competitors, both local and foreign that made sure they obeyed, were they fools to have obeyed? What does Mtn take us for?
The law may be reviewed but not until MTN pays up.

Am solving respect to ordinary Nigerians on the street.
Don't be deceived, even if the fine was doubled, MTN isn't going anywhere. On their own volition, they applied for further operating right and already they have been granted. They get most of their income from the Nigerian economy.
It's only criminous or errant foreign investors that needs to be scared and such are not wanted on our soil.
Investors that respects us, our laws and willing to abide to our rules and regulations have nothing to fear. Show me any other investor that has been treated likewise? None. So ur point has no basis.

So we should applaud MTN for flouting rules all in a bid to attract FDI? That's like thanking a man for insulting your parents all because he dashed you a Christmas goat and you're expecting a cow next Christmas on. Ben is just suffering the downsides that comes with being a talkative; they just wanna talk even if it means saying nonsense. I'm guessing he is one of the senators who must have been bribed with a Ghana-must-go full of recharge cards to slide the matter under the rug. Our leaders are really sell outs!
Every potential investor knows that there are laid down rules and mode of operation in any economy that they intend to invest in. Some investors come from countries where even more severe punishments are meted out for far lesser violations.
MTN could never try that rubbish in the US or UK. They take Nigeria for granted. People like Ben Bruce encourage them. By the way, HE needs to be investigated by EFCC over his looting of NTA while chairman there.

You are a real hopeless fool, the oil companies that has wrecked the whole of Niger delta, how many fine or penalties have you imposed on them. Now it has come to a company owned partly by Nigeria and run by Nigerians and all you are looking for is to liquidate the company over unregistered Sims.

So because certain things that weren't right happened in the past, it must continue? Be rest assured that in every sector of this economy, it won't be business as usual. They signed to an agreement and breached that agreement and so they must face the consequences. Even if partly owned by Nigerians, they must face such consequences. Wasn't it glo that saved us from per minute billing a wholly indigenous company. Please spare us the talk, if they pull out tomorrow, which they never will, hundreds of telecoms companies will buy their assets in the blink of a eye with part Nigerian ownership too.

Ben Bruce has never impressed me before in my life and he further damaged his reputation in my presence when he became a politician and most especially the moment he walked out with fellow PDP senators during Amaechi's confirmation.

As a first time Senator, he needs to be calm and learn the business of lawmaking than always trying hard to impress the populace and further making him unserious in our eyes.
