President Buhari, after winning a keenly contested election, was sworn into office on the 29th of May, 2015. As a result of the much touted fanfare about his integrity and shrewdness and his tempting manifesto, he was believed to be the “messiah” that would take Nigerians to the “promised land”. However, 6 months into his administration, most of the euphoria about the so-called “change” has died down. Without a team of ministers and a clear economic plan, Nigeria seems to be drifting like a ship without a rudder. To make matters worse, those “juicy” campaign promises that got many Nigerians anticipating for a better deal, have been disowned by Buhari and denied by his party, the All Progressives’ Congress (APC).

With more talk than action, and with his media aides doing more of damage control than releasing policy statements, it seems that Buhari is yet to hit the ground running. The hash tag, ‪#‎buharioptics‬ is trending on all social media platforms.
What is more absurd is that the Buhari-led APC government feels that campaigns are still on. Rather than fix the economy that's rapidly spiralling downwards, they prefer to criticize the previous government and the PDP. Despite all the allegations of corruption against the previous government, not one conviction has been made. The APC still resorts to propaganda to promote their image, as it did in the heat of campaigns.

President Buhari uses every foreign trip as another opportunity to further dent the nations image. He is a public relations nightmare. He absolutely refuses to address the nation on important matters, choosing to speak about sensitive national matters from the shores of another country. Almost all his foreign trips have been diplomatic disasters as he doesn't miss out an opportunity to tell the world how corrupt Nigeria is.

It is becoming obvious that these actions are a deliberate ploy to distract Nigerians from real issues that affect them. Perhaps the president is too overwhelmed with the burden of running of this country. The campaign promises are nearing extinction. In a desperate bid of the acclaimed messiah to save his face, he is going on a blaming spree. He blames everyone and everybody but himself.
In a bid to berate the critics of the Buhari administration, the media spokesperson, Femi Adesina referred to them as the "Wailing Wailers". Now it seems that the Presidency has been doing a lot of wailing. It seems to be more interested in image laundering than the wishes and demands of the millions of Nigerians that voted them into power. Rather than get to work, the government would prefer to drag its feet and make even mundane actions seem important. This administration focuses on photoshoots and ministerial lists. The hapless gullible public gets the impression that the government is doing something. There is much movement, but there is absolutely no motion.
I would like to implore the President to end his honeymoon and get to work immediately. He should also stop the blame game. Campaigns are over. Nigerians didn't vote for "stories that touch the heart". They voted for change.

His job is to fix the country and improve the lot of Nigerians. He should stop being a miserable sympathizer. For a president with focus, a "broke treasury" means nothing. Some of the greatest economies in the world, particularly the Asian Tigers, were totally down and out before purposeful leadership steered them into the path of greatness. Excuses are for fools. Only a bad workman would blame his tools.
President Buhari should act fast. Goodwill brought him to power, but even that has an expiry date.
