Hello people,

When you are filling the schengen visa form and you plan to enter the schengen country, lets say France via Istanbul with turkish airlines, what is your "member state of first entry"?

Is it turkey or France?

Exactly. One guy is insisting that since I plan a layover in Istanbul I must fill turkey there.

Turkey is a European country as per location but it's not in schengen, it's not even in the European Union.

If for example you were going to France with a German or Dutch airline with a layover in Another schengen country then your member country of first entry and country of destination can be different.
