Confused people I keep saying this CBN people are the most confused set so far this country has had in recent time. If BVN is not a security threat ....why suffer the people into doing it?Do they realize that with a stolen BVN, I can impersonate another person and open an account for illegal use? With access to BVN API, it can be used to spool high value targets for kidnapping and other organized crimes since it will aggregate that user's other bank accounts same way CBN wants to use it to identify foreign currency transactions per customer to the tune of $25k per year ![]() |

Cybertext:Yes oo, even if u have my Signature do u have my cheque book abi the fraudster nah my twin brother to have gone to withdraw as self.. I did my GTB BVN last year nd codely went to FBN to get another done last month inorder to see if there is a lapse in the system but believe me I failed, BVN is just a security feature to fight illegal accounts nd frauds.. |

bigtt76:How do you intend to do just that? Last time I checked, you need a passport, signature and some personal details to open an account. As regards high value target, well BVN also has its own pros and cons as well as other good technologies around. Only people with illicit money should be afraid of BVN as their secret illegal money inflows will easily be tracked |

Do they validate it? If they validated then they wouldn't have suspended almost everyone's bank account last week. The banks just collected the numbers and linked the accounts without proper validation. I tell you for free ....I submitted my numbers without any validation done until they deactivated accounts and had to regularize it. If you think this scenario will not play out someday ...they you must be joking ![]() menix: |

bigtt76:Lol. What a funny lie. You obviously don't know how this BVN thing works. How can you open account with a stolen BVN? Are you also going to steal the real owner's identity, address, telephone numbers, face, eye and thumb? Nigerians sha. |

the reason BVN is an issue as discussed is the culture of fear that everything thrives in Nigeria: religion/tradition, politics, government, academics, and economy all thrive on the element and culture of fear. |

Have we not seen cases of people with multiple passports before in this country arrested? It would shock you to know most of these things were done offline and not yet integrated with for the banks to do proper validations maryjames9: |

bigtt76:Yes it is usually validated. The system is programmed in such a way that once there is a discrepancy in information supplied, there won't be successful linkage. There would be an account freeze. And once you type in the BVN irrespective of the bank it was registered, the person's details pop out. Easy o. |

bigtt76:When u talk about validation, that only happened with Some banks or possibly those that did theirs After the extension cous I did not have such problem with GTB but had such with FBN I did last month.. Sure u did not finish reading the OP's post cous if u did, you will note their is a platform for confirming BVN numbers. U re not wiser than the experts who introduced BVN to the system nd if u followed this thread u will see my experience nd that of another to test the system nd we both failed.. |

Adesiji77:May be our BVN number would suffix 666 when they start arriving e.g 666-23165412. |

When I post I always do out of experience and not for the sake of doing so. I did my BVN last year and linked three of my accounts. Just one bank failed to because of wrong date of birth. It did not link up until that change was effected. I transacted on the previously linked account even after the deadline lapsed when most people's accounts were temporarily frozen. It was after the correction was effected that my other previously linked accounts sent me emails notifying me of successful linkage. If the platform was integrated earlier then the earlier linkages wouldn't have been successful. The banks just collected the numbers to filling in the spaces and carried out a temporary blanket deactivation of accounts just to avoid CBN wahala. Caracta: |

For corporate bodies and multinationals, how is their account handled vis-a-vis this BVN? Will companies like BAT or CHEVRON do BVN? Also what happens when foreigners come in to d country say for a holiday and want to buy forex or something. How are they gonna get their BVN? |

The BVN is the best thing to happen to Nigerian after arrival of GSM phone. Anybody who's afraid to give out his BVN is either a criminal or intend to commit a financial crime or is just an ignorant person. If a thief steal your BVN, thank God!. He/she will be caught by the bank!. In fact, if your money is missing now at the bank as a result of "mistaken identity", then hold your bank responsible, as such would only be possible if it's an inside job. |

The CBN spokesman is ill-informed, how can he claim that revealing ones BVN is not a security threat. That means BVN is useless and serves no purpose regarding financial transactions. One wonders why there has been an increased scam messages from fraudsters requesting for BVN. |

huche:I doubt if fear of fraud is the problem. Check the correlation between black market rate and the dates the CBN sold fx to the BDCs. That is evidence of round tripping. The use of BVN will prevent that, as multiple purchases by an individual can be detected. As long as CBN fx is subsidized there will always be opportunity for arbitrage. |
