I'm sure some nairalanders attended all those ajebo private schools and as such never got to experience 11/11 (eleven-eleven, I.e eleventh November). For those of us who attended public schools in towns where 11/11 was marked, I'm sure we can remember the dread,anxiety and suppressed excitement associated with the day. Let me start with a few of my experiences

On every eleven-eleven, I woke up with fear tightly coiled in my stomach. My appetite was usually very poor on such mornings and leaving house for school was a herculean task. As I got to school on one of such days, a senior student met me at the gate, collected my school bag and sandals,then gave me a 10 naira note with instructions to buy him two bottles of mineral, five packs of biscuits,a few buns,and then return with hundred naira balance. When I couldn't effect such a miracle, I was made to frogjump round the school compound twice that morning and twice before going home.

Another day, I was made to wear a paper necktie with the writing "i am a goat" from morning till I left school. I've carried a block on my head why walking on my knees for about 15minutes. The list is endless. The funny thing was that on such days, teachers never interfered. The senior students had the run of the school on 11/11.
