I am Rivers Ijaw and whereas I always thought some parts of Rivers State academically should be classified as Igbo (Ikwere and especially Etche and Omuma) they (Especially Ikwere) claim not to be Igbos so I tend to leave that alone. I am Rivers Ijaw and not on any side of that argument.
But I will say that if they choose to cast their lot with Rivers State and expunge all connections with Igbo, then so be it (in the spirit of self-determination).
I however must mention that the Ikweres vary from the Igbos to a greater degree than the people of Omuma and Etche and significant among these differences is the difference in method of thinking
