Fayemi has a good ministry in which he can prove himself. It's a 'virgin' ministry in the sense that not much has been done in that ministry. He only needs to do a few meaningful things and he would be celebrated.

My prayers are for Kemi Adeosun who seem to be entering into an oversized shoe, and for Fasola who has entered into a tight shoe.

Nigerians, pls join me to also pray for POWER for Fasola to effectively WORK in that HOUSE.
Ur on point. Apart frm oil, other our mineral resources are entirely untapped. I think u shld prove his expertise there.

International law says if buhari minister cross into the country of western Nigeria to come and collect taxes. The army should blow them up. Defending the sovergnty of the country of western Nigeria

So Buhari has to tell his minister the home truth.

Adeosun have no international power to come and collect money from. Anyone inside western Nigeria, if she does so or any Buhari ministers does so. They army should fire warning bomb.

Awolowo ko, awolowo ni. Respect other people international line. If fashola come to collect any money. The army has power to bomb fashola inside western Nigeria

If you cross inside the country of western Nigeria to collect money, If you like call yourself fashola or adeosun or osibanjo. .. Th army will blow up .

Respect i international line. If you don't, you will see a the same bomb , because you are crossing inside western Nigeria

Maybe "a bit surprised" instead of "disappointed" is better.
I agree with everything you've said. Add Amaechi in that list of super important ministers. He has to make real impact in our transportation infrastructure.
All in all, PMB is a very wise man especially seeing how he shared the portfolios with the Southern part of Nigeria getting ministries that are vital to the revival of our economy.
Power, Works, Housing, Finance, Solid Minerals, Budget & Planning, Transportation, Petroleum, Industry & Ttade, Labour & Employment and even Foreign Affairs are all in the South! More respect to the man PMB.
Right from the start, PMB brief has always been Security and Anti-corruption. That is why you can see him always talking on the two especially in almost all his dealings. He solely left the issue of economy to the Vice President. And if you look critically very well, I think there's a kind of synergy between the President and Vice President. Look at all the security apparatus, they are occupied by mostly northerners who he believes can work with him in both security and antigraft. Now if you look at the economy, I think most of it has been left in the hands of the southerners because of the input of the Vice-President. This is exactly what we are saying. The north and south should come together with each bringing in its areas of expertise for national development.

I've seen people taking a swipe at Fayemi. What they don't know is that he might even be the one that will suggest the portfolio to the President given their level of closeness. Fayemi has never left PMB since he was sworn in. He had input in almost his presentations as that is his forte. So I don't believe that he was shortchanged by not getting the Foreign Ministry. That ministry has a more qualified personnel than Fayemi as the man has spent almost two and a half decades in international organizations. So, he is better qualified. But Fayemi's brilliance will be put to test as I don't see him failing at all. Infact, I have the confidence that he will even perform more than Fashola because Baba's intention is to diversify the economy from oil. And don't forget, Madam Oby Ezekwesili because of her brilliance transform the Due Process, and later she made her mark in Education. Also, Prof Akunyili raised the stakes at NAFDAC and ever since, nobody has been able to fill the vacuum she created there. That is one thing the brilliant ones have going well for them. All they need is their brains to make a mark and I believe Dr Fayemi has it in abundance. Don't be surprised that in the next dispensation, all attention may be shifted to Ministry of Solid Minerals just as it is now on Petroleum Resources as he would have raised the stakes very high.

I have this extra-ordinary optimism that we are in for a very good ride. Very soon, those white people will soon start relocating to Nigeria because of the positive tidings that will be emanating from here. grin They thought that the end has come when we were faced with Ebola, but we surprised them and we are able to even teach them how to contain such. That is the kind of spirit that is in every Nigerians. We are Nigerians and we can only solve our problems the Nigerian ways. No cause for alarm. It is our time to soar and we will show the whole universe that God never made a mistake by choosing us as the largest population of black race in the world. grin grin grin

IMO, AbdulRahman Dambazzau should be the most disappointed. Interior is a far cry from the defence portfolio he must have been expecting.
Indeed. I will concede Dambazzau will likely be disappointed because he is an excellent and well-trained soldier, one of the finest Nigeria has produced, who is equally highly intelligent too. Nonetheless the Interior Ministry is about the internal security of Nigeria and I think Buhari has set that as a high priority at the moment. Dambazzau is one of tje rare breed of leaders who have skills and talent that is 'transferable' and adaptable because he is a solutions provider.

Ministry of Interior Mandate

The mandate of the Ministry is fostering the maintenance of internal security and citizenship integrity for the promotion of good governance.

Well-said bro. All our current problems today, to include the man-made recession we are in, is because of our total and unhealthy reliance on income from the sale of crude oil plus the sordid reality that the last government put nil buffers or "rainy day" savings in place to help Nigeria survive periods of low oil prices such as we are in currently. Even a fool will know a nation of 170 million people, and the biggest black nation on earth, must not be at the mercy of fluctuating oil prices as Nigeria is disgracefully. this problem is a top prority for PMB. Let us theorise here. What if oil falls to 10-20$ per barrel considering we are already struggling today when oil is $45.00 per barrel ? Will Nigeria not be f.c.ked totally then?

This is why Buhari will especially pull the likes of Ogbeh and Fayemi aside and warn them not to fail him. In two years time we must have turned round completely the unacceptable status quo whereby income from crude oil accounts for 70-80% of the total earnings of Nigeria. Ogbeh and Fayemi are also in charge of portfolios that can create employment for the teeming mass of jobless youths we have that politicians use willy nilly to fight each other. What will concern a proudly employed youth with going to carry placards for Metuh or going to fight at a political rally for Obanikoro? Do people think Buhari is not aware of this simple concept when the man, before the election, has spoken of it passionately millions of times? Buhari even posits, and I agree, that many youths recruited into Boko haram would have resisted the terror group if they had jobs and fulfilled lives. All in all, I think some Ministers will consider themselves lucky for getting portfolios that are critical to the positive transformation of Nigeria. I know i would if ever given the chance to serve my nation in that capacity.

You should ignore characters like that. People like him, because of tribalism and prejudice, are stuck in the dark ages . Their own sole mission is to taunt ethnic groups they hate, with every development, and this always affect their ability to reason effectively. In their mind Fayemi, a Yoruba man, has lost out and must be "bitter" because he got mineral resources rather than Foreign affairs whereas all those who know the immediate priorities of Buhari will realise Fayemi has gained a very critical portfolio that can see him emerge one of the stars of this cabinet. I pity some people sha. Prejudice against others has totally destroyed their minds.
Re: Portfolios: How Buhari Shocked Some Ministers by Bimpe29(m): 12:10pm On Nov 12, 2015
kahal29:
President Muhammadu Buhari did not assign key portfolios to some ministers following security reports, it was learnt yesterday.

He placed priority on expertise and performance in assigning portfolios to ministers, sources told The Nation.

The President was also said to have disappointed some of those who lobbied for “strategic” ministries.

Ministers may be placed under watch and anyone who gets into trouble will be dropped, it was learnt.

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday urged them to be creative.

According to sources, until the inauguration time, the list of portfolios was known to only Buhari and members of his “kitchen cabinet”.

The list was kept under wraps in such a tidy manner that even the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the President’s aides were unaware.

Six factors, which informed the assignment of portfolios, were security reports, less exposure to politics, priority on expertise and performance, ongoing investigations of some appointees and distaste for lobbying and media profiling by some appointees ; and Buhari’s military background which sent signal to ministers that no one is assured of any position in his cabinet.

Investigation revealed that after the nomination and confirmation of the ministers, Buhari still asked relevant agencies to conduct a more discreet investigation of the would-be ministers.

The outcome of the “surveillance” was presented to the President and his kitchen cabinet in deciding the choice of portfolios.

A source, who spoke in confidence last night, said: “Most of us, including the ministers themselves, were shocked when the portfolios were announced. In fact, some ministers were just unstable. The President and his inner cabinet kept the list secret. They didn’t allow it to leak at all.

“If the portfolios had been made available to any other office or desk, we would have known. So, the President used his military background to send the first message to the ministers that he has no favourite and they should always expect surprises.

“From the way the President assigned portfolios, nothing is settled on any minister. If anybody gets into trouble, he will not spare him or her.”

The source also spoke on security reports on the ministers as accounting for the outlook of the portfolios.

The source added: “There were reports that a minister had already formed a power cult around himself, such that those expected to serve under him had been paying obeisance.

“Another minister was holding discussions with some foreign partners based on assumption that a particular ministry had been conceded to him.

“Some ministers were openly telling friends, associates, party leaders and even key aides to the President that they will be in charge of some ministries.

“With security apparatchik and communication advantage, you know the President has access to more information than anyone else. He picked some of these information and decided to surprise these ministers.

“ He detested that some ministers had air around themselves that some ministries are their birthright.”

Responding to a question, the source said: “You cannot rule out the fact that there are some ministers who did not get what they would have thought to be commensurate portfolios. But that is the working of the government for you.”

The source added that security reports made the President to concede some portfolios to a few ministers – to challenge their competence.

Ministers with surprising portfolios following last-minute decisions by the kitchen cabinet include Adamu Adamu(Education); Adebayo Shittu(Communications); Usani Usani(Niger Delta Affairs); Monsur Dan-Ali(Defence); Geoffrey Onyeama(Foreign Affairs); and Cladius Daramola (Minister of State for Niger Delta), who was said to have been billed for the Education ministry.

Another source also indicated that the President applied expertise and performance target in allotting portfolios to some ministers.

These yardsticks were said to have accounted for the portfolios of Kemi Adeosun (Finance), Babatunde Fashola (Power, Works and Housing), Audu Ogbeh (Agriculture and Rural Development); Abubakar Malami (Kebbi); Suleiman Adamu (Water Resources); Ibe Kachikwu (Petroleum Resources); Udo Udoma (Budget and National Planning); Prof. Isaac Adewole (Health); Amina Mohammed (Environment); Dr.Osagie Ehanire (Health); Lai Mohammed (Information); and Rotimi Amaechi, Hadi Sirika (Transportation)

The second source added: “The thinking of the President is that most of those in this group, with the exception of Amaechi, have no political ambition in the nearest future. They are mostly experts who can deliver on the key areas of governance which can make the change he promised to the nation a reality. What Amaechi has going for him is vitality or energy to serve and knack for quality projects.

“With these experts manning vital ministries, there will be less pressure on them from politicians and hangers on. Their assignments alone will preoccupy them.

“So, their portfolios were based on a performance driven target.

A government source also claimed that some of the ongoing investigations of some ministers and the attitude of some and lobbying by some contributed to the nature of the portfolios given to them.

“For instance, there are two or three ministers with issues. A few others sent emissaries and some erroneously confided in a few people close to the President that they will be in charge of some ministries.

“The President decided to prove them wrong completely.”

Asked to describe the atmosphere after the portfolios were announced, the top government official simply said: “Some ministers were certainly weak.”

Spot on bruv. Two of Nigeria's biggest problems, amongst others, are dangerous and economically unhealthy over-reliance on income from oil and youth unemployment which create so many other problems such as youth restiveness and increase in crime/terrorism and other ills (eg oil bunkering) that troubles society. How does the foreign affair Ministry come close to the Mineral resources ministry in terms of alleviating these two major problems facing Nigeria?

It is a lesson for everybody whether given expected ministry or not,the bible says all things works together for good...the ministry of solid minerals & Agriculture for example are to be well funded to realize the objective of revenue generation diversification..the tasks in the two ministries require ability to think out of the box .Though it may not be a familiar terrain but the leaders should surround themselves with experts and come up with sophisticated ideas to turn the economy around. God has put everybody into where they will perform better. No need for wailing wailers to make noise on this page

Amaechi must be surely disappointed..he was dreaming thr Niger Delta ministry..a day aftet Amaechi was screened, an announcement was made in Port Harcourt that the Niger Delta ministry wpuld construct two flyover bridges on the East West road at Rumuokoro and Tank.

Those two locations mentioned for the fyovers were initially proposed by Amaechi as governor but failed to commence construction due to shortage of funds arising from his political battles..in essence, he was very certain of ND ministry...i feel for him now.

Kemi Adeosun, well, lets watch and see.

Fashola in addition to being very competent, needs the grace of God as well. The three in one portfolio IMO seems like the Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none situation..Buhari shouldn't unnecessary overlabour Fashola when there are also competent hands..The power situation in the country using PH as yardstick has imoroved so he would just add finer touches..Housing to me should be his primary concern.

Abdulrahman Dambazau...i weep for him..since Buhari won the election, Dambazau has been carrying the air of Minister of Defence around.he was instrumental to the sacking of DSS from manning sensitive locations in Aso rock and replacing them with DMI goons..he would surely have killed for the Defence post..all is not lost, he has the police to console him..better luck next time.
You are wrong dambazau, ministry of interior is also his jurisdiction,he is going to make all military apparatus work, that's a great portfolio, as for Amaechi he would been under utilized if he was appointed nigerdelta minister, that would have been a downgrade to him,so he got a better ministry, your assertions were made out of sentiment cuz you most probably support pod.

I don't get you guys and how you keep mentioning Fayemi. Do you guys know the focus and top priorities of the Buhari government? I doubt you do when you think someone who is Minister of solid Minerals is disappointed he did not become Minister of foreign affairs. Fayemi gets the chance to lead a revolution in a critical sector key to assisting Nigeria diversify her economy away from a harmful dependence on income from crude sales. Let me put issues in perspective for you. We are in an economic downturn today because oil crashed from around $110.00 per barrel to around $45.00 today.

That means Nigeria has to run itself with almost a third less than it used to earn from the oil sector that account for around 70-80% of the total earnings of our nation. What do you then think the focus of a serious and responsible President would be if not to ensure, ASAP, we get out of this situation and never be exposed to it again through the creation of a robust and diversified economy where crude earnings in the future will account for a far less percentage of our total earning than it does today to our detriment?

The indolent, myopic and thieving PDP made the Mineral sector moribund and now Fayemi will get the chance to revive it with the support of a serious and sincere President and you guys are talking of foreign affairs? huh huh huh I don't think some of us understand that real leaders, who presented themselves to serve the people and not their pocket, always want the jobs/role that gives them the chance to make a big and real difference plus implement the greatest and most historical reforms.

Oga mi, how far. Long time. Good to see your post. I am not surprised at your revelation. I have said it here many times that the PDP is nothing but a congregation of gangsters who came together to corner all the wealth of Nigeria, in every sector, for their own personal use and private pocket. Totally wicked people China would execute three times over.
