China keeps its currency artificially low to encourage more exports, so why would the US and their corrupt World Bank and IMF ask Nigeria to devalue its currency when we only export raw materials.
Even though I have opposed Baba PMB on many issues but I support him on this one. He should not succumb to US pressure.

Everyone is protecting her economy. So are we.

China locked up their country for many years to build the new china you see now. China don't have any iron ore, but today they are among the top 5 exporter of steel product in the whole world. EU AND America should leave us alone, we are building a new Nigeria. We want to encourage our local industries.
We don't want to be importing tooth pick again .


That is how I understand this topic. I'm not an economist, I be metallurgical engineer.

The decision is very good for the country because it encourage local production of those things US, Thailand, Malaysia etc are dumping here.
They dump all their products here and make profit while Nigeria remained a perpetual consumer nation without producing anything.
This decision discourage importation of those common goods that can easily be produce here and encourage our young entrepreneurs to thrive. At the same time, Nigeria generates huge revenue therefrom.
US and EU are complaining because Nigeria is their largest market, and this policy work against them.

Africa pose no threat whatsoever to the US. The combined African GDP is just at $2.0 trillion compared to a single US state of carlifornia with a GDP of $2.3trillion .
The US provided a forum called the AGOA for african countries to export their products to the US as a means of helping them.
South Africa decided to play smart by eating her cake and having it at the same time, and the US threatened to drop the hammer and they would be in the right.

The imbalance trade that affected Nigeria for decades which just took a little turn around in few months is bringing about shook in the economy of these countries. This is the reason Africa will not grow until we refuse their grants/aids and tighten our policies in the area of imports, training, local technological development, restriction of studies abroad and development of local contents.

Let us use what we have. if you can not assemble your vehicle in Nigeria, forget about Nigerian market.

I agree with you only if the main reason is to encourage local production. But the recent removal of embargo on Rice importation contradicts the policy. In addition, am greatly surprised that most of our state govts still think only import whenever it comes to vehicles. Lagos is launching about 450 BRT buses today and it will be interesting to see how many of them are locally made.
