It was on the AIT  focus nigeria  some days ago about the Governor of Anambra Peter obi, who gave his aides N255 million in cash with goverment vehicles and security to carry.

when the aides were arrested, they said that oga governor owns the money and asked them to go and change it into dollars.

when the police speak with peter obi, he acknowledge ownership, and he came to lagos and said that it was a contractor monies that needed to be paid in cash ( i am not sure whether the police asked him, is it a contractor in Nigeria- who has no bank account, or an overseas contractor who needed the money to be exchanged and courier to him .

A Governor of a state who does not know about  MONEY LAUNDERING  being a criminal offence both in this country and overseas, most of his mates are arrested abroad, and the money confiscated , and facing criminal charges for the same thing, That money is equivalent to £1 million pounds, in one go.

This man PETER OBI will be THIEF if the allegation is true, AND A THIEF  has no other name.

What is N255 million doing in LAGOS, he is the governor of Anambra state, when does he becomes a courier for a contractor , even if the contractor needs the money in cash, can they not give the contractor cheque to be cleared in Anambra, or immediate bank transfer,.

what does a contractor need  N255 million cash for in one day? is it to take it away from record, at minimum Peter Obi should be impeached  and prosecuted for Embezellment if the allegation are true, fraud, money laundering, and even if his story about contractor is true, he will still be guilty of accessory, conspiracy to defraud Anambra state.

Liar and a thief, they are usually  first cousins

What do you guys think?

One man's 255 million naira is another man's one million pounds sterling.    Among true patriots, it is essential that support must be expressed whenever a state governor in Nigeria decides to invest public funds in his private Swiss bank account.   Praise the Lord !
Re: Peter Obi And The N255 Million Naira by vigasimple(m): 11:56am On Jun 07, 2009
@ jakumo

At think the standard of thieving has so advanced that even 'money laundering' or stealing from the public purse of N255 million from a state account is now 'seen' as no big deal.

I noticed that your comment is just hilarious because we have all become comedians in order to have sanity.

People will bark when you steal billions but they never realised that people who steal billions start from a quarter like N255 million, and on another day, they will just multiply it by 4 and voila it will become a billion Naira, and the states, country is in dire need of infrastructures.

We must all stand up to thieves, they are stealing the present and the future of this country, monies meant for the well being of everybody is being stolen by one man.

I heared the guy OBI get 40% cut in every contract he awarded.

Now, how much does the contractor get in profits assuming he/she has to do the contract, or is it a case of just taking the money and no contract.

Apparently Anambra is now the most lawless state in Nigeria, and OBI excuse is that it is political enemy causing problems when he continue on a monthly basis to take N250million out of Anambra which is the equivalent of the security vote for that state.

Anuofia liar and a thief.

Arithmentically, one can calculate the contractor's profit thus:

Contractor's Profit = True Contract Cost + Governor's Cut - Amount Spent In Executing Contract

Hey, guys, i watched the same program and the whole story looked too disconnected. The guy that was complaining was the same guy presenting Obis's side of the story. It may true but we have not heard from the gov or his aides directly.

I am tempted not to believe the guy, Obi sounds and behave too clean for that. Was it not the same Obi that Dr Obiogbolu was saying that he wanted Anambra politicians to die of hunger. See i was part of the delegation that once met this guy under student union body. He rebuked us practically for starting our presentation by telling him that he is doing well, that he expected us to come up with suggestion on better ways of doing things. And you know what? for the fund drive we went for, the guy gave us money from his personal account saying that it is because some people may not agree with the project we want to use it for and that he is the gov of the whole Anambra state. You need to see this guy in any Nigerian airport, i'd met him 2 times, once in Abuja and Lagos and this guy does not even use their VIP whatever.

Now, the guy on AIT said that he came to Lagos via Ghana air, the question is from which airport and when did Ghana air start taking Enugu or Owerri-lagos route. Look deeper, you may see some 2010 guber plots underneath. I may be wrong anyway, anything is possible but i hope it is not true because i will totally be dissappointed!

'I heard' has no place in a court of law. It's also inadmissible as evidence. If all you have to back up your ire is mere hearsay, then you may well be the fool in this matter.

I just hope all of this are unconnected to next year's Anambra Guber election spin

as we speak someone who calls himself a PDP leader is pleading with Yar'adua to declare a state of Emergency in Anambra State

So that if that happens, a military administrator who will be PDP's puppet will be there to perfect the PDP rigging plan

I will take this news about N250 million with a pinch of salt while the whole drama plays out.

Are we speaking of the same man who publicly admitted to collecting bribes from contractors, only that he invested the money in other projects to "help the people"? lol

I noticed that Nigerians have this 'preference' for some people, and forgeting that we are all humans, and in any events every politicians whether in Nigeria or elsewhere have political paymaster as in godfather, so they are more likely than not tainted but people who came from where governor OBI come from, or his towns men, clans men , from same local authority will vouch for him and will be in self denial.

Imagine when YAR A'LIAR first came to office, he said he is rule of law, due process, but show me your friend and I will tell you whom you are, IBORI,AOODAONNKA is YAR A'CLUELESS friends, he is then the chairman of 419 plc. period.

All the transactions in the N255million saga has been admitted by Peter OBI through him directly and through his commissioner for Infromation, and all those his 'friends' on the forum are saying it is hearsay and it is the enemy and his political opponents.

One big question, what is the Governor aides doing with N255milion on a sunday in Lagos with goverment vehicles, and OBi is the Governor of Anambra state. The law says that no transaction above N500,000 naira must be transacted in cash by state government. Even if he has any explanation for the N255Million, his position is untenable because as a chief officer of the state he himself does not obey the law and cannot expect anyone to obey the law as a result of his actions

Obi Faces Fresh Impeachment Threat
By Daniel Kanu (Lagos) and Chukwujekwu Ilozue (Onitsha)
Anambra seems intent on backsliding into its days of political gangsterism, with schemers now piling pressure on the legislature to get rid of Governor Peter Obi, for the second time, to 'pave the way for victory' in next year's ballot.

The state is unique in Nigeria, in that it will hold the Governorship election in 2010, a year before all others, including the run for Aso Rock, because Chris Ngige illegally occupied Government House, Awka from 2003 until he was sacked by the Appeal Court in 2006.

The court declared Obi winner of the 2003 ballot, but he was impeached by the state House of Assembly seven months later, only for the Appeal Court to restore his mantle after three months.

Obi belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while all members of the Assembly are in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was learnt that the lawmakers are being prodded to cash in on the upsurge in crime and the N250 million allegedly found on an Obi's aide last week in Lagos.

The third tack, a source confided, "is to sponsor groups to protest to the House on continuous basis hinging on the two issues of security and alleged missing money."

That was reportedly the kernel of the message taken to the Assembly on Tuesday by PDP National Vice Chairman (South East), Olisa Metu, when he visited the Speaker and held a meeting with him in camera.

It was Metu's first visit to the legislature since he assumed office more than a year ago.

It coincided with a protest to the Assembly by National Grassroots Forum, an organ of the PDP, which denounced insecurity in the state and the alleged "missing N250 million Anambra money."

During the visit, Metu openly castigated the lawmakers for not protecting the interest of the PDP.

He said though the Assembly has the "biggest mandate and is supposed to be in opposition, it still supports (Obi)."

He moaned that the PDP hierarchy in Abuja works hard for the removal of Obi, allegedly with the approval of President Umaru Yar'Adua, yet the legislators keep frustrating the efforts.

Metu advised the Assembly to insist that any Bill or appointments Obi brings before it should have PDP interest.

It was learnt that at the closed door session with the lawmakers, Metu assured them of Yar'Adua's support of any plot to see the back of Obi, on the plank of insecurity and the alleged missing money.

But some legislators, including Simeon Ohajianya, informed Metu that the high crime rate is believed to be politically sponsored.

Which, recounted a source, made Metu to shout out: "Then what have you achieved? Thirty of you are all PDP members but the state is gradually slipping out of your hand just because you want to tell the world how logical your reasoning is."

He reminded them that Obi will soon bring to the Assembly a list of members of State Independent Electoral Commission (ANAMSIEC), which must be "shared 50-50 with the PDP."

Metu also reportedly told the lawmakers to drum it that "Obi has fallen short of his duty in proving security for the lives and properties of the people, no matter what explanation he gives.

"On the N250 million missing Anambra money, it is gratifying to note that you have set up a Committee to probe it. The matter must be resolved quickly and Constitutionally. We know how you were blackmailed during the budget debate. Today, we know who wants money most."

But state APGA Chairman, Akunwata Mike Kwentoh, said the sequence of events has vindicated the party.

"When APGA said that the crisis in the state was sponsored some people doubted, but if not for the way (Obi) handled it, they would have succeeded in planting arms in his vehicles on May 31. Soon after that, June 2, there was deadly armed robbery attack in Nnewi.

"On June 4, a resolution was sponsored by A.B.C Nwosu calling for the removal of Obi. The next day, thugs fired gun shots in the air to cause panic. On June 9, Metu met with the lawmakers.

"Senator Ikechukwu Obiorah and House of Representatives member, C.I.D Maduabum, have also promised to move motions in the National Assembly to declare Anambra unsafe, prelude to emergency rule. Now, you could see a well orchestrated plan to destabilise the state."

Obi on his own has vowed not to rig election to serve a second term.

He also pledged that his administration would beat the 2015 Millennium Development Goal (MDG) timeframe, as he is poised to create new records project implementation.

Said he: "It has not been in my character to cheat nor to cut corners for any position that I have found myself. I am not desperate about positions and I will never rig election to serve the people of Anambra State."

"My vision is to leave Anambra better than I met it and I will not fail in that assignment. I want to serve the people to the best of my ability and I will not fail in that social contract."

Obi, who spoke in Lagos on Wednesday, explained that the state's budget has shifted from supply-driven to demand-driven, which has "positively affected real development as well as proper planning."

He allayed fears over insecurity, insisting that his government is on top of the situation.

I have always believed Peter Obi because of his struggle to gain the governorship job in Anambra and especially because of his innocent looking facial expression till a friend of mine in VGC Estate Management informed me of the contract they'd gotten to supervise the construction of Peter Obi's house in Lekki, Lagos.

It is disheartening that any governor of a state will leave their own state to go creating jobs, taking investment to, and developing infrastructure in another state.

This property is valued at over N200 million. Who knows whether he built it on credit and now wants to use this couriered money to pay.

I'm sorry for Anambra state and the kind of leaders they've been cursed with.

I'm amazed at some people that will continue to point fingers at "enemies". It would have been 100 times easier for the PDP to tackle the electoral tribunal in Anambra and maintain the other Uba fellow than to trying setting up Obi years later with hundreds of millions of Naira. There is no thief that will throw away the spare keys he has to a rich man's house, only to come back trying to climb and electric fence, break a window and cut a burgulary protector. None!!

This is a thief caught on duty. He definitely was sending the money down to a contractor but is it the one building the Lekki-Epe expressway which he wants to help Fashola pay on behalf of all Anambra indigenes in Lagos or is it that his personal house in Lekki he wants to pay his contractor for after having duly passed the budget for it to the State House of Assembly and gotten approval to construct a magnificent edifice only fit for the Anambra state governor.

I just don't want to hear that excuse of ENEMIES one more time.

@asha80

I couldn't help but notice one Daniel Kanu being among the authors of that story you posted. Hmmm, I hope it is not him whom I'm thinking that is he whom he is. I hope so sha, that is not the Daniel Kanu of YEAA because I will find him and kill him. Thank you.

Those ones don jump into the matter with various implicating statements? How can a report tell you that the suspects had a secret meeting and same report will tell you what transpired during the secret meeting?

I do not intend in any way to support the governor, but no rumour monger should be allowed to use this as an opportunity to use lies to gain fame.

They even know what the governor thought in his mind and why, how, and when he thought. Please let's leave propaganda out of this.
