The parents of detained pro-Biafra activist and director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, have called on the Federal Government and the Department of Security Services [DSS] to release their son who has been in detention since his arrest on October 17, 2015.

Speaking with newsmen at his palace, the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu Ibeku autonomous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area, HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Nnenne, said that the arrest and continued detention of their son has affected them negatively.

83-year-old Eze Kanu, who attended the pressbriefing alongside two of his children, said the arrest and incarceration of his first son has aggravated his health condition, which hesaid, has made him to sleep less at night.

He said, “Since my first son, Nnamdi was arrested by the Federal Government, myself, his mother and his siblings have been having health challenges and sleepless nights. We are calling on those involved to release him without delay.

“I am [size=16pt]pleading with the Federal Government to release my son;[/size] let his freedom be restoredwithout further delay, as I am aware that in Nigeria, the constitution guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

“I am surprised that my son is being detained.I have been asking why he is being held without getting an answer, and it is very bad because I am unable to go and see my son in detention to confirm if he is still alive or not.”

“I was confused because my son was comingto see me when he was arrested. When I asked where he was arrested, they said Abuja. I sent people to confirm his state of health and the report I got is that he is alive, that’s why I was able to speak now.”
