tobimillar:Do you think it would have been possible, for GEJ, a SS to have started corruption charges against a Northerner from a prestigious family. This was the same reason the emir of Kano, Sanusi, got away with the embezzlement of large sums of money through the print and mint scandal. Besides, since the EFCC, had verifiable evidence against the CCT chair, why didn't they start proceedings against him. They are an autonomous body, and are empowered by the constitution to bring to the book anyone, who has engaged in financial misappropriation. Why must the head of the EFCC, be told by the President to do his job. |

The problem is that there is no sufficient evidence against him. The PA claimed that he gave the money to him in cash while the EFCC claimed to have recovered the money from the PA. So where did the PA get the money from? Did he pay from his pocket? While the CCT chairman can be removed on moral grounds, I don't see how he can be convicted except the EFCC has sufficient evidence that he took bribe. |

There are better ways of letting Saraki out of the lions' den than scripting and stage acting Mr Umar's compromise. If this administration is serious about fighting corruption, Saraki must be legally prosecuted to it's logical conclusion which ultimately is Kirikiri prison. |

If the EFCC has evidence to prosecute a case involving a high profile person, they always seek presidential approval or else they would lose their jobs and be disgraced... please Ribadu's case is a very clear example. maupe: |

modath:You are not a judge. Only a competent court can convict him and the president cannot removed him based on allegations. The president has to be sure he did it and not being set up. Whatever happens, it doesnt make him unqualified to have tried Saraki, he will then be replaced and the trial continued from where Umar stopped. |

BushidoBlue:What is this child saying. Umar was indicted last year during Gej tenure and the issue was on going. Stop wailing every time about pdp. Buhari is reluctant to remove and persecute him despite overwhelming evidences. Buhari is a corrupt man in the garb of a saint. Certificate? I dont believe in their corruption fight and chant with foundational institution for it. |

modath:Vanguard is one of the most useless news outfits in Nigeria now, even lindaikeji has a far better journalistic bent than them, even if just a gossip blog. Go thru the story well and u realise this is just a remake of d story it carried when this episode first started in 2013 or 2014,current dates added to make it appear current. I can't find d link to d original story in its site now, but carefully sieve thru this story and u find clear cut hints that it has nothing to do with the current presidency. Vanguard has a penchant for recircling old tales and editing them to look current. |

hmmmm... This issue has being on going since 2014. I believe that that was the last time I read it! Questions/Observation: 1. Why is it coming up now? 2. Why was Rasheed Taiwo who offered the bribe still working free? 3. N1.8M from only one person, yet Nigeria is broke! 4. Why was Umar's PA d only one charged to court? 5. What needs to be done to curb these excesses? Answers/Recommendations: 1. the issue probably was Re-enforced now to free Saraki or he (Umar) has stepped on powerful toes! 2. Rasheed Taiwo offering bribe either to test Umar or not is a clear indication that he is guilty as charged. Therefore should not be a free man! 3. FG should find a way of checking the excesses of these rich men! via enforcing luxury taxes e.t.c stop multiple taxation of the poor i.e traders, upcoming entrepreneurs! this will help reduce the acts of the rich getting richer and poor getting poorer! 4. Death sentence should await those indicted such acts! this will reduce the congestion of our prison and reduce corruption to the barest minimum. |

maupe:this is always my question, how come inec did their work independently without the executive interferring, and another independent organisation like efcc and icpc will need a pass from the presidency before they could start judicial process against looters of our funds? Am beginning to think we have somany educated illiterates in nigeria. So many nigerians dont know the different arms of government and thier functions. Come to uyo, people wi'l say the former ssg was just a figure head, that akpabio didnt allow him function in his office, and u ask urself do these guys know the duties of secretary in any organisation not to talk of secretary to d state government? Nigerians and most political officers needs proper orientation. |
