They can't pay 18,000 minimum wage.how much is that 18,000 that they can't pay?I cry for this zoo country called nigeria and APC wants to pay 5,000 to all unemplyed youth.let me see how feasible that is.
We have been deceived by APC though I don't blame them because had it been PDP that ruled this nation for 16years did something tangible I do not think anybody would have voted for APC.

Lazy governors they will always have an excuse, that should find a way of ameliorating the problem

To me, the governors are not the lazy ones but the civil servants who are the acclaimed professionals and technocrats that failed to advice the governors appropriately and putting effort to make sure government programmes works.

Have anyone been close to a top civil servant... you will agree with me that that they don't take their job serious with attitudes like - I no go die for Nigeria, incessant absence from work, eye service and lots more.

The governors just political leaders though I'm not shielding them from blames either.

The civil servants have to brace up to the fact that hard times awaits them. They have been enjoying all through and AIDING CORRUPTION.

Anambra state increased that of its workers few months ago.

Please stop peddling lies, we know the people that cannot live without oil. The sophisticated south-west and North. All their lives depend on Oil.

Please remove Enugu and Anambra from the list of the 36 states that cannot pay.

I will take this news as unreal but if it is. It is nothing but a shame that a full grown adult in this era will earn less than $100 as income in an oil producing nation abundantly blessed with several natural and mineral resources. They should be talking about negotiating how to better the lives of their fellow citizens and giving our country a reputable image .

Reducing the price of oil is one of way to cripple Russia economy, turn her people against the government. In as mush as the goal not yet achieve price of oil will remain low. many people in the oil are happy with the present situation, average family are able to save over $3000 yearly. Sorry Nigeria not a normal country!

They can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage and yet, they still maintain lavish life style. What a mess.

Using the current state of the economy to say you can't pay what you're suppose to pay workers is just a silly excuse. It was this same governors who shouted left, right and centre when the minimum wage was increased, was the economy bad then.

Its high time we call every political office holder to other and tell them to stop giving us flimsy excuses. If they can't pay, let them resign and give way for someone who can, someone who will not give us useless excuses.

The governors should first cut their security votes, other allowances, reduce the number of political appointees, cut down salaries and allowances of the state legislators before contemplating to reduce the worker's minimum wage. Imagine, a governor in south-south has so far made about 1500 political appointments. I don't know why Nigerian leader are so wicked that they don't care for the common man

So since the past 55 years you did not know that this will be the result of all your collective idiocy and our collective ignorance. Now you want to CHANGE when it is tooooo late for CHANGE.. the only way this country will survive the coming plague of poverty and despondence is for something like EBOLA to wipe 100 million Nigerians so at least we can spread the burden to 60 million. the other alternative is to stop making unnecessary babies we cannot feed, educate or employ.

You are wrong! You can reduce the population of Nigeria to 60 Million and we still will have low electricity, poor security and education standards, depend on food imports etc etc. The fundamental problems underpining our woes are poor planning and failure to harness the diverse resources the country has to improve welfare of people. We have millions or arable lands, lots of rivers and man power but we can not grow enough to feed ourselves. Just a few multipurpose dams will give us the electricity we need and put sufficient land to grow cereals and animal feed etc etc. Its a black man curse I think, rather we wait for God to solve their simple problems(growing food, fixing the roads, getting clean water into homes etc) or fight for a caliphate..... Can you imagine buying tomatoes and chicken at shoprit from SA? Hah... we done I tell you.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/we-can-no-longer-pay-n18000-minimum-wage-govs-cry-out/

ABUJA – Thirty-six States Governors have said that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage to workers owing to the poor state of the economy.

Rising from a crucial meeting on that ended at the early hours of Thursday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja under the umbrella of Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, the governors said that the dwindling prices of oil had drastically affected their States’ income.

Specifically, they said that the burden of the wage was lighter when oil sold at $126 as against the current $41 per barrel.

They therefore sought to have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari on the economy, resolving that the only way out of the quagmire was to diversify the economy to agriculture and mining.

Reading the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari hinted that the Forum also backed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over the N2.1trillion sanction on MTN.

According to him, the governors agreed that the fine must be paid in full.

He said that they received briefing from the Acting Executive Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Professor Umar Dambata who explained the matter to them.

He said: “We resolved that we must look at ways to enhance revenue generation and at the same time look at ways to cut our overhead costs more especially the political office holders’ salaries and other overhead expenses.

“The situation is no longer the same when we were asked to pay N18,000 minimum wage, when oil price was $126 (per barrel) and continued paying N18,000 minimum wage when the oil is $41 and the source of government expenditure is from oil, and we have not seen prospects in the oil industry in the near future
.

“We will diversify our economy in the area of agriculture and mining. But at the same time, we should understand our situation where some of us (states) today are taking N100million take home (monthly allocation) and then have salaries in particular of over N2billion to pay.

“We therefore agreed here to take this suggestion to NEC in our meeting tomorrow (Thursday) so that we can be able to find ways to tackle this problem.
oil price started droping around may 2014 but NOI was able to handle it then. When she spoke of soveing wealth fund, the governors then attacked her esp oshiomhole and amechi. Until dec, the price of oil was stil 40+-$50+ yet this was going fine. What went wrong apc. Allways wailing. Ngozi would have handle this better. Upon all the propoganda of secretly returned billions of stolen funds and other recovered, they are still wailing. Increase the workers salary biko.

I don't see any relationship between the drop in oil price and Buhari's emergence. Jonathan misused our oil boom by not diversifying the economy and investing in meaningful developments.

I swear our Governors ar very useless. They are complaining of Fall in Oilprice, what did they do with their Huge allocations when oil price was above $100/barrel. If Governors do not know how to Invest & save for the rainy day, I wonder what they teach in their useless empowerment program. U see in them on tv with their ministers, thinking these are Technocrats not knowing You & I are better than these fools. So they cannot even pay mere 18k from their own Internal Generated revenue. Whereas Gov willie obiano increased the salary of anambra workers. Some Governors need Basic Education on Investment & accountancy!

Where is your reasoning faculty. That oil is selling for lower price is not the fault of Buhari administration.
When the oil was selling at above 100dollars , the then government refused to take caution in spending.
We will definitely come out of this difficult situation better than expected.
Thank God for Nigerians that we decided to change the locust regime.
We will get back to the glorious days soonest.
